Chapter Eight

Blueth Mendoza's POV

"What do you think you are doing?"

My eyes widened as I jumped and started looking for a place to hide. I found the perfect hiding place, under a table. What? It's the best hiding place I can find in a hurry. I did my best to try to stay still. I saw a shadow stop by the table I was hiding in, my heart starting to beat faster and faster by the minute.

"You do know that the whole point of hiding is that to find a perfect place to hide before you were already spotted, right?"

Oh, I've already been seen. Great. What am I going to do? What am I going to do? WHAT AM I GOING TO DO!?

"Just come out already, don't make your life a little harder by running away."

I took deep breathes as I kept thinking if I should come out and allow myself to get caught or to make a run for it. I waited for at least an hour by now in hopes that whoever is out there get bored and leave me alone, but I kept waiting and the figure didn't leave

Well, better to get this over with than die waiting under this table. "Okay, okay, you got me. I'm coming out now, and don't worry, I won't play any tricks so you can take it easy."

I got out from under the table and stood up. As I stood up, I saw the person which caught me, it was a girl around my age. Wait, what's a girl doing here? Is she the one who's living here? If so, then it won't be a problem getting her to leave then.

"What are you doing here? You do know that non-scavengers are not welcome on our premises, right?"

"What do you mean what am I doing here? I should ask you that question. What are you do--- did you just say scavengers? OUR premises? You're a scavenger?" I said as I looked at her closely.

"Tch, what does it look like to you?" She said as she pointed at her clothes. She was wearing an all-black kind of dress with a dark cloak of some kind. Well, that answers my question then, she is a scavenger. Well, I'm screwed. And here I am, already planning the perfect plan on how we can get her to leave this house, only to be foiled by the fact that she's a scavenger.

"I'm sorry, I just couldn't believe that a pretty girl such as yourself can be a scavenger."

"I'm sorry, what did you just call me?" She said at me with her face all red. I think I may have made her angry.

"A p-pretty g-girl?" I stuttered as I closed my eyes. I don't know why but I felt like she would punch me really hard in the face. And I was not wrong, she would punch me in the face, but she didn't.

She grabbed the collar of my shirt and move me closer to her face. "I am not! A pretty girl! Call me pretty girl one more time and you'll never see the daylight ever again!" She threatened as she pushed me back, making me fall.

"O-okay, I'm sorry." I said as I got up. The girl just rolled her eyes and started doing something with her phone, she must be reporting me or something. Well, I've been caught already so I guess there's no use in running away.

You know, for a girl like her, she's pretty strong. I'm not saying that she's weak or anything, I'm just saying that I'm surprised by her strength. I wonder if I can do that. Can I do that?

I looked around and I found a big rock, it looked like the same weight as I am. I walked over to it and tried lifting it, I kept trying, but no luck, I couldn't lift it.

"What are you doing?" The girl said as she looked at me.

"Oh, I uhh, I was stretching?" I said as I gave a small smile, trying to hide the fact that I was really just trying to test my strength. I couldn't tell her that I was trying to lift this here boulder because I wanted to see if I'm as strong as her, if she found out that I'm weak and couldn't do it, that'll be embarrassing.

"Are you right in the head? Because as far as I know, that's not how you stretch."

"What? Of course, this is how you stretch. Who doesn't stretch like this? This is the new way of stretching."

"Yeah, well it's weird. Stop it." She said as she went back to her phone.

"So, a scavenger huh? How did you become a scavenger? Is it a family thing or something?" I asked her as I sat down on the ground, my knees folded all the way to my chest. She didn't respond and just kept looking at her phone. Her backup sure is taking a long time to get here. "Why did you become a scavenger anyway? Did your parents force you or something?"

"Shh, be quiet."

Okay, we are getting somewhere. I'm finally breaking her quietness. "You know, you don't look like a scavenger. I have this feeling that you are not a scavenger, I feel like you are a digger. You want to know why? Because you dug your way right into my heart."

Ahh yes, no one can resist my bad puns and pick-up lines. Not even Cathy and Ms. Val. They go screaming just to make me stop saying them.

I kept going, saying my dumbest pick-up lines along with my corniest jokes, and I did it, I finally broke her. I see no reason why she can't be broken by my lines, these lines are the bomb! If I want someone to get mad at me, my pick-up lines are my go-to guys and gals. They always get the job done pretty fast. Don't ask why I want someone to get mad at me, just don't, please.

"Oh for the love of—Will you just shut up!!!" She yelled at me, her red redder than ever. Oh boy, I made her extra angry now. I tried stopping my laughter as I kept looking at her face. But my laughter left when I saw this big figure appear from behind the girl.

"Ah, what do we have here?"

That can't be good.
