Chapter Eleven

Blueth Mendoza's POV

"Ugh! Where are those customers? They should start coming in already, we renovated the house and everything! What are we doing wrong?" Ms. Val said as she plopped her head on the table she was sitting in.

"Well, maybe the customers aren't coming because they sense this disastrous aura you are giving off." Cathy said as she started grooming herself.

"Oh yeah? Then how can you be sure that the customers are not coming in because they are seeing you licking yourself."

"This is one of a cat's natural thing to do! What? You want me to change my genes or something?"

"Shut it cat, we are thinking of why we are still not receiving any customers, we are not talking about your weird Cathy genes."

"You started it!"

"Yeah, well I'm finishing it."

"That doesn't make any sense."

"Guys! Have you tried promoting?" I butted in before their argument moves to another level. The last time they argued, Cathy made Ms. Val sleep in the attic for a week. I know it's not right to laugh whenever I think about it, but it was funny, seeing how Cathy made Ms. Val sleep in the attic like that, anyway, back to the topic.

Ms. Val scratched the back of her head as she looked at me. "Promoting? What about it?"

"Well, maybe the reason why we are not getting any customers is that people don't know that proofreading services are a thing."

"What are you talking about kid? We set up a big sign outside the house, it's pretty hard not to miss that."

"That's the thing, it's not enough that we put up a big sign upfront because only a few people pass here. We need to up our game if we want people to know that proofreading services exist!"

"So, you want me to put up big flashing lights around the sign?" Ms. Val said as she showed me a handful of lightbulbs with different colors.

"What? No! Well, yeah, maybe we need to add flashing lights to the sign. Anyway, as I said earlier, we need to promote proofreading services!"

"How exactly?"

"Well, like this!" I ran towards a table and grabbed a piece of paper and some pens and started writing. "Like this!" I said as I showed the paper to Ms. Val.

"'Proofreading Services is now ready to help you in proofreading your story.'?" Ms. Val looked at me after she was done reading the thing I wrote on the paper.

"Uh-huh. We don't really need to put in lots of words to make people know we exist, we just need to send out the message that we are here and they may come and ask us for help."

"Do you really think that this would work?"

"Maybe, there's a fifty-fifty chance that people would come."

Ms. Val gave a little laugh as she kept looking at the paper. "Well, those numbers are good enough for me! I'm willing to try anything as long as I am with you kid. It's fun when you're around." Ms. Val said as she ruffled my hair, making my glasses lose their position again.

I smiled at her as I went out the back and grabbed as much paper and paint as I can. Can't make flyers without these bad boys.

"Well, shall we start?"

"Want to have a race kid?" Ms. Val said as she looked at me with a can of paint in her hand.

"Hey, if we're going to race then your cheating! Put down that can of paint!"

"3, 2, 1, go!" Ms. Val said as she quickly grabbed pieces of paper. Unbelievable, she didn't listen to me! Well, she is Ms. Val after all. I grabbed the paint and paper which was left and started making my flyers. I can't say that the flyers I'm making look great because they don't. I'm not good at working under pressure okay?

"I can sense you losing kid! Get ready to eat my dust!" Ms. Val said as she kept on making her flyers.

"Oh yeah? Well, it shall be you who will eat dust! And also paint!"

We kept going with the flyers, we're not really paying attention to our work and we just focused on finishing making flyers.

"And touch down!" Ms. Val said as she threw the can of paint on the ground. "I win!"

"No fair! You started ahead of me!"

"Well you snoozed kid, and you know what they say. You snooze you lose!"

"Fine, whatever. Let's just see how we did on these flyers."

Ms. Val and I walked towards the flyers we did and I guessed it, they don't look like flyers at all. They just look like a kindergarten made them or something, they were a mess. You can't see a single word written on the paper, only handprints and paint spills.

Ms. Val laughed when she saw mine. "Ha! Yours look nothing like a flyer!"

"Haha, says the one who made the same thing! Both of our works looks like someone just spilled paint all over them. Well, that is true because we did just spill paint all over them so, yeah."

"What are you talking about kid? You can see that mine have more depth, you know? You can easily tell that mine are works of art. Yours look nothing compared to mine."

I gave Ms. Val this irritated expression and I called Cathy so she can decide which of our works looks better.

"Sorry kid, but yours look nothing compared to Val here." As I heard Cathy siding with Ms. Val, I gave her my puppy eyes in hopes that she would choose my art over Ms. Val. But it didn't work, my puppy eyes always work on her but somehow, it didn't work this time, and I found out why it didn't work.

"Why thank you, Cathy, see that kid? Cathy thinks mine looks better than yours." Ms. Val said as she started rubbing her work on my face.

"I wasn't done, Val. I didn't say that yours is the best. It can't be the best because MINE is the best!" Cathy said as she showed us her painting. That little cat! She was painting in secret while me and Ms. Val were racing! Normally, I don't like people who join at the last minute, don't ask me why, I just don't like it. I would be mad but who could be mad at Cathy? Just look at how cute she is! Plus, her work is just like ours, so, if she says that her work is the best, that makes our work the best.

"Well, anyway, will any of these work as flyers?" Ms. Val asked as she placed her hands on her hips, looking down on the things we have made.

"Well, I have good news and bad news. The good news is, because of the little race we did, we made a lot. The bad news is, we can't use any of them."

"Well, that's a shame. Our time and efforts, wasted."

"Oh don't say that Ms. Val, we enjoyed making them and we had fun, so it wasn't a waste. It is a waste of good paper and paint though."

"Well, you are right kid, it wasn't a waste. Not a full waste anyway."

"Well, what will we do now? We have no more materials left to make flyers."

Ms. Val smiled as she looked at me. "Don't worry kid, we can still make flyers."

"What? How?" I began getting curious about what Ms. Val said. We used up all of the paper and paint, how can we possibly make flyers?

I kept looking at Ms. Val and she smiled at me. Everything started glowing, the same glow which happened the time we were inside the back of the police van. Wait, those this mean?

The flash grew brighter and the whole house was filled with it, little do I know, flyers quickly filled the room.

I gasp as I kept looking at Ms. Val. "Are you a witch?"

'What? No."
