Chapter Thirteen

Blueth Mendoza's POV

"You ready to start proofreading?"

"Oh Ms. Val, you know that I was born ready."

"Good, then let's. Get. Proofreading!"

"Yeah!" I screamed as I raised the paper and pen I have in my hand.

"Wait, hold up, back up a second. What are those?" Ms. Val said as she pointed at the paper and pen I was holding.

"Oh, these? They are paper and pen."

Ms. Val has this annoyed look when she heard my explanation on my I was holding a paper and pen. "Kid, I know what they are, what I want to know is why you have them."

"Ah, I see. Well, I'll use them for proofreading, duh. How else can you write down the mistakes without these bad boys?" I said as I showed Ms. Val the pen and paper.

Ms. Val let out a little sigh as she placed her head on the palm of her hand.

"What's wrong? Did I bring the wrong type of paper and pen?"

"Well, I guess I have no reason to be stressing out over the fact that you thought that we will use pen and paper since I didn't really show you how we do proofread here. Wait here kid, I'll go get something." Ms. Val said as she went upstairs. She was gone for quite some time so I sat down on the couch where Cathy was sleeping on and I started snuggling her. She doesn't mind it when I suddenly give her my love, I think she has gone used to my monstrous way of showing her affections that she didn't even wake up from her nap.

"Boy, Ms. Val's really taking her time up there. I wonder what she's doing?" I said as I kept scratching Cathy's back. I paid no attention to it and returned to showering Cathy with lots of attention. Minutes passed by and Ms. Val returned with a big book in her hand. It wasn't the big book she slammed on the counter the first time I came here though, it was a different book, I started getting curious as to why she brought it down with her.

"What's this?" I asked out of curiosity as Ms. Val placed it down on top of a table.

"It's a book." Ms. Val replied with a smirk forming on her face. This is payback for the pen and paper I did earlier, isn't it?

I looked at Ms. Val with an annoyed expression, I did the same expression that she keeps doing when she gets annoyed. "I know that it's a book, but what kind of book."

"Ah, why didn't you ask sooner?" Ms. Val sat next to me as she started opening the book, flipping through page by page. The book was empty as Ms. Val kept flipping through the pages, maybe she was looking for some kind of writing in the book? I don't know, Ms. Val didn't tell me yet what this book is for.

"Ah, here it is." Ms. Val said as she stopped flipping through the pages of the book. She has her finger pointed at a page of the book. Both pages of the book had these weird symbols on them which I cannot understand because I do not speak symbols!

I looked at Ms. Val with total confusion plastered on my face as she kept smiling and pointing at the page. "I still don't know what this book is for!"

"Oh, right. My bad, sorry." Ms. Val said as she picked up the book which we are going to proofread. "Listen, kid, this is how we do proofread here. We don't proofread with pen and paper because it takes too long and there will be a tendency where we will misinterpret a part and accidentally change it."

Ms. Val suddenly became so serious, her seriousness has made it difficult for me to breathe. She kept looking me straight in the eye, enough to send chills and shivers down my spine. I gulped as I listened very closely to every word she's saying.

"Customers don't like it if you misinterpret their works and accidentally change the whole story, so we use this method instead to avoid making accidental misinterpretations. Plus, it's fun to come inside the book and explore the fictional worlds of aspiring writers."

"I see, we use this method to avoid accidental misinterpretation--- Did you just say come inside the book?"

Ms. Val smiled at me while she opened the book we are proofreading. "Allow me to demonstrate kiddo." She smiled as she tapped the weird symbol on the book. As she tapped it, the book started glowing and Ms. Val got sucked into it. My eyes grew wide as I saw Ms. Val disappear in front of me with my very eyes.

"Ms. Val!!!" I yelled as I quickly grabbed the book and started shaking it, hoping Ms. Val would return. To be honest, I don't know why I am doing this, I look like a fool or something.

"Don't worry Blueth, she does this all of the time when she proofreads, she'll be okay. Just give her some time to finish her job and she will come back." Cathy said as she gave a little stretch and went back to sleeping.

I looked at the book and I let out a sigh. "You're right, you guys have been doing this for a long time. It will be fine. Ms. Val would be fine, right?" I placed the book down on top of the table and sat down on the couch, hugging my legs.

I wait patiently for Ms. Val to finish doing whatever it is that she needs to do inside the book. She sure is taking her time, does it really take this long for her to finish proofreading?

"Hey, Cathy?" I was about to ask Cathy if it's normal for Ms. Val to take so but I noticed that she was sleeping peacefully, so I just waited for a sign of Ms. Val returning from the book. It's already been 2 hours since Ms. Val went inside the book, and she still hasn't come back yet.

I let time pass by and I started noticing the book starting glow. My eyes grew wide as I saw Ms. Val floating on top of the book, glowing lights surrounding her. "And that kid is how we proofread."

I ran up towards her and hugged her. I don't know what's gotten into me, but I started crying as I kept hugging her tighter.

"Uhmm, did I miss anything? Why are you crying, kid?" Ms. Val asked as she started patting my back, making me calm down.

I kept crying as I kept hugging Ms. Val. I don't know why I'm feeling this, but I felt scared somehow.
