Blueth Mendoza's POV
"Ooh, what's that you got there? An invitation?" Ms. Val asked as she was walking by, carrying books. Ms. Val has been up all-night arranging books and keeping them well organized.
Ever since we got that one book to proofread, customers have been coming in like a tidal wave, asking for help on their stories. Some are asking for help in getting ideas while some are asking help for someone to proofread their stories.
"It's an invitation to our mid-year-end prom at school." I said while placing the invitation on top of the table.
"Mid-year-end? What's that?"
"Oh, it's a prom at our school. Our school holds two proms each year. One which is the mid-year prom where it gets held every middle of the year, while the mid-year-end prom gets held whenever it's our last months in school, and when the middle of those last remaining months come, our school holds the mid-year-end prom."
"Kid, I understood nothing in your explanation. But that prom sounds fun, how come there's a frown on your face? Aren't you excited?"
"Well, if you get to experience prom twice a year, the excitement kind of dies."
"Hey, a prom is a prom, so you should still attend it."
"I will attend it, I didn't say that I won't attend, I just said that the excitement for it is gone."
"That's my girl, I would come with you but, seeing that our business is booming, I can't come with you." Ms. Val said as she pointed at the stacks of books piling up on the table.
"Well, then guess I won't attend it because we have lots of work to do." I stood up and started walking towards the stacks of books to grab one, but before I could take two steps, Ms. Val grabbed the back of my shirt, preventing me from taking another step.
"Oh no, you won't kid. You will attend that prom whether you like it or not. Don't worry about the work around here, I'll take care of them. Cathy and I will work on them."
"I don't know Ms. Val, Cathy looks a little bit tired if you ask me." I said as I pointed at Cathy who was sleeping on the counter.
"Oh yeah? We'll see about that." Ms. Val then waved her finger and this light of some sort appeared out of nowhere. Little did I know, Cathy was floating. My eyes grew wide and I can feel that sparkles are forming inside of them as I looked at Ms. Val. "Why are you looking at me like that kid?"
I started jumping up and down as I pointed at Cathy who was still floating. "You're a witch!"
As I said those words, Ms. Val's expression turned from confusion into irritation. "Kid, that is both rude and not true. Stop saying that! Now, you should go to the market and see what clothes they have for sale."
"Huh? Clothes for sale? What do you mean?"
"Well, you can't go to prom with those clothes you are wearing."
I looked at my clothes and inspected them, I don't know why Ms. Val's saying I can't wear them. This is my regular outfit, a short dress with leggings. Plus, this is what I always wear whenever we have our pro--- Oh wait, I think I just figured out why boys aren't asking me to prom.
"But Ms. Val, even though I have nice and cute clothes on during the prom, I won't have someone to dance with."
"Kid, sometimes in life you need to be your own man. You can't keep waiting for boys to ask you out. Plus, don't go looking for a knight in shining armor, you're not a damsel in distress, you're a warrior."
I looked at Ms. Val with confusion running on my face. I just told her that I have no one to dance with and she suddenly started talking about love. Wait, could it be that Ms. Val has a secret lover? Gasp!
"Hmm, from what I am getting with from what you said, you had a secret lover in the past? Didn't you!?" I screamed as I started pointing at Ms. Val
"Kid, don't point, it's rude and it looks weird. And no, I didn't have a special someone. Ha! Do you think this majestic beauty will fall for someone? Think again, kid. I'm a solo person."
"Awe, and here I thought you had someone special since you were talking about all that stuff about being a warrior and stuff."
"Kid, what I was trying to say earlier isn't about love. It's about having fun even if you're alone."
I looked at Ms. Val as the confusion in my face doubled thanks to what Ms. Val said. "What?"
"Just go to prom. Anyway, go to the market and go look for a nice dress for you. And when you find one, come back here and I will pay for it."
"Why are you being so nice all of a sudden? Is there a catch or something? There's a catch isn't there?" What's the catch?"
"There's no catch, I'm just looking out for you, that's all. Plus, I don't want you looking like a fool at the prom you will go to. I want you to have a good time. Now go to the market and go look for a dress."
"Can't you just knit one with your magic or something?"
"Kid, you do know that you're still working for me, right? You'll go to the market or I fire you? Choose."
"Alright, alright. I'm going. I'll be back in a bit." I smiled as I started walking towards the market. I reached the market and started looking around for people which sell dresses and stuff. I found a guy which sells tuxedos, but no one who sells dresses.
I don't know why there are people who sell tuxedos but no one who sells dresses. I kept looking and my eyes grew wide as I saw a familiar face amongst the crowd of people.
"Rachelle!"
