Chapter Seventeen

Blueth Mendoza's POV

"You have an invitation to the prom at our school? You were invited to the prom as well? Wait a minute." After saying these words, something hit me. I gasp as it came into realization. Does Rachelle go to the same school as me? How come I've never seen her face before!? "You go to the same school as me!?"

Rachelle suddenly looked at me and she saw me holding the invitation in my hand. She quickly snatched it and hid it back in her basket. "W-why do you have that!?"

"Well I saw it popping out of your basket and I couldn't help myself."

"Haven't your parents told you not to mess with other people's business!?" Rachelle said as she let out a little sigh. "But yeah, I go to the same school as you."

There were lots of questions going on in my head that are in desperate need of answers. How come I don't see her at school? Why is she so mad that I found out that she got an invitation?

"How come I don't see you?" I asked as I look at her with a worried expression.

Rachelle gave a small smile as she looked down on her feet, holding her basket in front of her with both of her arms. "It's funny how some people blend into the background right? They can only be seen when you pay attention to them. You only notice them because of that one thing they did."

"What?" I looked at Rachelle as my worriedness turned into straight-up confusion. Rachelle shook her head and she smiled at me.

"I got to go. I still have lots of things to do. I'll see you later. It was nice talking to you." Rachelle said as she started walking away. Something's definitely wrong with her. I should follow her and comfort her or something. A part of me feels like she needs someone to be with her and a part of me says that she needs some time alone. I don't know what I should do, should I go or should I give her some space?

"You asked her to be your girlfriend yet?"

"Gah!"

Ms. Val suddenly appeared out of nowhere which startled me and made me jump.

"What's wrong? First time seeing a goddess?" Ms. Val said as she took a sip on a juice box she was holding.

"Ms. Val? What are you doing here? And why are you wearing that?" I said as I pointed at Ms. Val's outfit. She was wearing this huge sun hat with sunflowers all over it. And her clothes as well are all covered with sunflowers. Let's just say that Ms. Val's clothes are all sunflower themed, even her sandals. "Why are you a walking sunflower patch?"

"What are you talking about? Sunflowers are the new hip thing now. Summer is only a few months away, so I figured why not be early for it? Besides, while I was proofreading, I saw a character wearing all rose-themed clothes, and I thought to myself why not try sunflower themed clothing."

I just stared at Ms. Val's clothes with disgust plastered on my face. I don't want to sound mean and all but, Ms. Val's clothes are a fashion no-no for me. There's too much yellow! It's not that I don't like yellow and all, it's just that too much yellow is too bright for me, plus, yellow is not Ms. Val's color.

"Where did you found all of these sunflowers?"

"Hm? Oh no, I didn't find them, kid, I bought them. From that guy!" Ms. Val pointed to a guy counting a very thick stack of money.

"Please tell me you didn't include my salary on that stack of money he's counting."

"Don't worry kid. I'll be able to give you your salary by the end of the month. After all, we are swimming in lots of books that needs to proofreading." Ms. Val said as she gave me a wink and took a sip on the juice box she has in her hand. "Anyway, what was it that you and that Rachelle kid talking about? It looked like the two of you were arguing or something."

"Well, I kind of meddled a little bit with her business and now I think I made her upset or something. I wanted to follow her and ask if she's mad or something, but a part of me is saying that I should give her some space."

"Ah, friend fights I see. Well, that part of you saying she needs time alone is right though."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, it's best to give people some time alone, let them think about things so they can fix what is broken. Sometimes you don't need to bring the glue to fix someone kid, you just need to stay still for them to fix themselves."

"What?"

Ms. Val let out a sigh as she ruffled my hair. "Kid, what I'm trying to say is to let time fix what is broken. Sometimes we just need to let people fix things on their own and we just stand by, ready to give them support when they need it."

I stayed quiet as I kept looking at the direction Rachelle went. I couldn't see her anymore because it was already a while now since she went walking away.

"But hey, have you found a dress which you might be wearing for the prom yet?" Ms. Val asked as she gave ruffled my hair again, making me stop looking at the direction Rachelle went.

"Dress? Oh right! The dress! I haven't found one yet. People seem to only sell tuxedos here."

"Well then, what are you standing around for? We have some shopping to do! Pick yourself up and let's go shopping!"

"Are you sure I can't wear these clothes for the prom?" I asked as I stretched my shirt.

"Kid, that shirt of yours is not a dress." Ms. Val said as her excitement gets turned into irritation. What? I can't help it, I don't really like shopping that much, I find it boring.

"But I can stretch it out like this so it could go below knee level." I said as I kept stretching my shirt. It can really stretch all the way down to knee level and still come back to its normal size after it gets washed. I don't know why or how it can do that, maybe my shirt is magic. Ms. Val just looked at me with this irritated and annoyed look as I kept stretching my shirt.

"Just come with me and let's do some shopping." Ms. Val said as she grabbed my arm and started dragging me towards every shop we find which sells clothes.

Well, I guess we really are going shopping.
