Chapter Thirty Two

Blueth Mendoza's POV

"Huh, we're all out of eggs." Ms. Val said as she opened the covers. "Hey, Blueth? Can you run to the market real quick and buy some eggs?" Ms. Val looked at me as she placed her hand on her waist.

"Just eggs?" I looked at Ms. Val as I placed my mug in the sink.

"Yes, just eggs. Why? Do you want to buy something else?"

"Yes, actually."

"Oh? And what's that?" Ms. Val said as she was reaching in her bag for her purse.

"I don't know, like, other food in the house!" I said as I pointed at the empty shelves which were hanging on the kitchen wall.

Ms. Val looked around and she saw what I was talking about. "Oh yeah, I didn't notice that the kitchen shelves were empty. Come to think of it, I don't remember the last time we did some shopping. Hey Cathy? When was the last time we went shopping?"

"Three years ago." Cathy replied as she was sleeping, curled up in a ball.

"Three years!?" Ms. Val said as her eyes widened. "Wow, can't believe I didn't notice that long. Anyway, here's the money Blueth, buy some eggs and do some shopping for food while you're out."

I took the money Ms. Val handed to me and placed it in my pockets. "What food will I buy?"

"Just buy anything which looks delicious."

I smiled at Ms. Val and put on my hoodie which was hanging on the backrest of the chair I was sitting on. I waved goodbye to Ms. Val and Cathy as I went towards the door.

"Take care now Blueth." Ms. Val said as she took a sip of her coffee.

"I will!"

I grabbed an empty basket which was sitting near the door as I went outside, I then started walking towards the market place.

"Let's see. Eggs, eggs, eggs, where to find eggs." I said as I walked through the massive crowd of people. Today must be a busy day, this is the first time I see the market so packed with people like this. "Excuse me, coming through!" I said as some people blocked the path.

I managed to squeeze myself through the crowds, no biggie. I squeezed right through the crowd thanks to my cute yet little size. Being short comes in handy at times.

"Right, back to shopping." I said to myself as I made my way across the market, looking for someone who sells eggs.

"Are eggs made of rare materials or something!? How come I can't find anyone who sells them!?" I yelled out of nowhere, it took a while before I realized it, but my eyes grew wide as I realized it. Oh wait, that wasn't my inside voice, was it?

I looked around and I saw that everyone's eyes were all up on me. "Uhh... Hi?" I said as I gave everyone an awkward smile. "I'll let myself out." I said as I slipped away with the awkward smile still on my face.

I slowly walked away from the scene I made and I turned around a corner. I leaned on the wall as I let out a deep sigh. I peaked out to see if people are looking in the direction I went, and when I saw that people returned to their normal shopping, I let out another sigh of relief. "Well, that was embarrassing. Huh?"

As I was about to get back to shopping, I saw a familiar face in front of me, well, not in front, in front of me, the person was on the other side of the road. I smiled as I saw her face, it was Rachelle. I started walking towards her with a smile on my face.

"Hey, Rachelle! What are you doing here?" I asked as I gave her a pat on the back. I already know what she's doing here, but what's wrong in not asking, am I right? She was wearing her all-black clothes which gives the hint that she received a task to retrieve a stolen and/or missing item. And by the looks of it, the item she was tasked to retrieved was left behind in this old house she's looking at.

"Gah!" She screamed as she jumped. I must've given her the spooks. "Blueth!? What are you doing here?" Rachelle asked as she looked at me. Before I had the chance to answer her question, she placed her hand on my shoulder. Oh no, are we going to kiss? Is this a sign of a kiss coming!? Rachelle!? Don't be so quick like this!

"Get down."

I stopped imagining things as I heard Rachelle tell me to get down. "Get down? Woah!" Rachelle suddenly pushed my shoulder down, making me sit on the floor. "What's happening?"

"Shh!" Rachelle said as she was sitting next to me, well, crouching. I gave Rachelle this confused look as I stared at her. The confusion running around my head disappeared when I heard footsteps coming from inside the house. I got chills run through my spine as I heard a voice coming inside, it felt so close.

"Everything okay over there?"

"Yeah, I thought I heard something outside, must be those stupid cats again. I'll get rid of them later."

A minute passed by and footsteps can be heard, but these footsteps went quieter. Maybe the person talking went away. I looked at Rachelle as she stood up a little, peaking at the window.

"He's gone." She said as she stood up completely.

"Who was that? Were they scavengers?"

Rachelle gave me a nod as she has her focus fixed on the window. She must be figuring out a way to get inside.

"What are you doing here?" She asked in a serious tone. Wow, clothes really do define one's emotions. She's not like this when she has different clothes on.

"Oh, I was doing some shopping, and then I saw you so I figured I'd come over to say hi."

"Hello. There, you had your response. You should leave now, you might get hurt."

"That's not the response I had in mind. The response I wanted was a response that was more happy and cheerful."

Rachelle didn't pay attention to me and started opening the door with a bobbin pin.

"Won't you get caught if you go through the front door?" I asked as I watched her open the door, and with that, a click happened and the door opened.

"Go home Blueth, before you get hurt."

"Awe, don't go soft on me Rachelle." No, please continue going soft on me. It's making my gay heart beat faster, and I am loving it! "I can take care of myself. I mean, come on, we took down that monster which appeared in the school stadium, and I didn't get hurt. Well, besides getting my head hit with a table, but I'm still standing, see? Plus, you told me the first time we met that we should do this again sometime, so, let's do it."

Rachelle looked at me as she let out a sigh of defeat. "Fine, you can come along. But promise me that you won't get hurt, got that?"

"You can count that as done." I said as I smiled at her.

"Good, now, follow me."
