Chapter 3: Dead Man Walking

Nathan's POV

I woke up in a room full of nothing but darkness. I can't see anything, nor I can't even move. I find it hard to even breath.

"Hello! Can somebody hear me?" I asked but the noise I made was just too loud. I know I am lying so I tried to stand up, but to my surprise, I smashed my head to a something hard. Feels like a wood, or plywood.

I scan the place myself and here I am, inside a coffin. Who pulled this prank must've known that I am not claustrophobic.

"All right, Sheena! Let me out! Let me out!" I tried to slam it but it was just too hard to open. Feels like it was locked outside.

"Nathan! Where are you!!"

I can hear some noises but it was so blurry to the point that I'm not even sure if I was being called. I continued smashing the casket, hoping it would break some soil above. I can't now breath, I am suffocating.

Sheena's POV

"Nathan! Hey, where are you!?" I shouted so loud. I am with the Tyrannies and we're looking for Nathan.

We continued shouting his name until I notice something. The soil were moving in one place. We looked at each other when we heard a noise coming from under the ground. It continued so loud until it stopped.

"Grab a shovel! Come on quick!" I asked and the two of them went back to get a shovel.

Trisha and I used our hands and feet to dig. The soil was still fresh, it was like someone was buried underneath.

After almost ten minutes the two got back and were chasing their breaths. I held the shovel and started digging. I just dig and dig and dig until I felt I was close. I knew I was close cause I can touch a wood using the shovel.

Soon as I opened the casket, I felt terrified when I saw Nathan. He was so pale and so soft. I check for his pulse and got even terrified and scared. He's dead!

"H-he's gone! Oh my god, he's dead!" I cried out loud and Trisha excused herself.

She went to give Nathan a CPR. Pumping his chest, giving air to his lungs. I watched her do those things and felt relieved when Nathan inhaled.

"Where am I?" He was still chasing his breath.

"Hey, you're okay. I'm here now." I hugged him tight as I could.

I can tell that he's scared. Of course, he would be. It was terrifying enough to be buried alive.

"Do you remember anything? How did you end up here?" I asked him, he nodded but didn't answer. So I helped him up and went back to the house of the Tyrannies.

Soon as our feet reached the doorstep, Nathan collapsed.

"Hey, hey, hey, Nate..., don't you dare leave me. Nate!!" I tried to wake him up but he just wouldn't.

"Call 911! Right now!" I am crying hard, my lips are trembling, hands are shaking.

"Nathan Conan Arevalo don't you dare die. I will choke your soul in heaven I swear." I threatened him.

We carried Nathan on the way to the ambulance soon as we heard the siren. They tried to give a CPR, and an oxygen mask. He still has a pulse.

"His body were dehydrated from the oxygen. What happened to him?" The paramedic asked, he was holding a record sheet in his arms and a pen in his hand.

"We are investigating something, then earlier today we saw a woman. She was a killer, so we punished her and brought her to jail and Nathan..." I sniffled because I can't stop crying.

"He left at two in the afternoon, and then I got worried because he hasn't texted me til 8 pm. So we tried to search for him. And..., he was buried underground." I cried hard and whimper and sniffle. I held Nathan's hands, it was so cold.

"Based on his hands, pale eyes and dried lips. I can say that he was buried there alive for approximately 5 hours. No food, no water, no oxygen." The paramedic said.

I swear to God I will kill whoever did this to Nathan. It was only a short ride because there wasn't a traffic at all so we got in the hospital just about time. He admitted him to the emergency room.

I contacted Mrs. Arevalo to inform her about Nathan's condition. She hung up and said she'll be here in five.

"Mrs. Arevalo, thank God." I hugged her tight.

"Where's my Son? Nathan Arevalo?" She asked the nurse in front.

"He's currently in the emergency room, Ma'am. You can take your seat there and wait til you hear from us. Thank you." The nurse said and we took out seats.

Mrs. Arevalo is also a doctor so she knows that nurses are having a hard time assisting patients and families that's why she didn't force herself.

"What happened to my son, Sheena?" She asked, about to cry also.

"I don't know the exact, we just found him buried alive underground. He was dead but then one of the Tyrannies, Trisha gave him a CPR. So we still had the time to went to the house but he collapsed when we reached the doorstep." I told her the summary of what happened. After all, she's still the wife of the man we're investigating.

"H-he was buried, alive. My son was buried alive, oh my god." She gasped and scoff repeatedly. I can't blame her, I too am upset by what happened. I am still at the state of shock but I can't let this win over me. He will come back, my best friend will live.

"Arevalo? Mrs. Arevalo, you're son is about to be transferred to ICU. You can now go talk to him."

We went to the ICU and saw Nathan, the monitor is still beeping. He is barely conscious, his eyes were weak and can hardly open.

"M-mom..." He tried to talk but his Mom stopped him. Said he's not able to talk yet so don't force it.

I stormed off the room and went to the vending machine. I inserted a dollar and the bottle of coca-cola dropped. I took it and noticed some paper hanging. I took the paper and read what was written.

"I know who the killer is."

And next to that was a smiley face. I looked around to find whoever put this in the vending machine but unfortunately, I can't find him.

I went back to Nathan's room and he was now awake. His mom is asleep so I tried not to make any noise. I sat on the couch and look at him.

"Sheena, I think I know who the killer is." Nathan said so I immediately took out the note I received.

"I know it's impossible but, did you put this on the vending machine, Nathan?" I asked.

"Bro, how can I? I was and am still weak so how can I put that? What was written anyways?" He asked.

"It said, I know who the killer is." I read it loud enough for him to hear it.

I looked at his face and his eyes were frightened.

"Why? What's the matter?"
