Pov. Asteria
We waited for the sun to come down for at least one hour. Then moved on to fly towards the R-Leporis. Once we crossed the portal, we flew towards Afanas. I chuckled when I saw Emily's hope and wonder while looking down.
"Don't get your hopes up, Emily," I murmured. "Bloodstar lower," I indicated. "If you smell him, make sure to tell me," I told Emily.
Emily took a deep breath in the hope of smelling something, anything. I chuckled once again when she dropped her shoulders in defeat. "It won't be that easy, Em," I explained.
"Your right," she said in excitement, almost jumping off Bloodstar. Her excitement made me smile. Strands of hair fell in her face. I reached out and put one strand behind her ear. I looked at her in the eyes, and she looked straight back at me. Maybe in one life, we were meant to be together, but unfortunately, this isn't one. I cleared my throat and pulled my hand away. Emily blinked nervously and straightened up.
"Bloodstar, you may land here. It will be easier to look by feet," I inquired. I cleared my throat once again, trying to get Emily's attention. "Don't trust anyone. They may want your blood," I warned.
Once we landed safely, thank you, Gods. I jumped off and reached my hands out, catching Emily swiftly. I put her down and stepped back, not wanting to make things uncomfortable, not anymore, I mean. I hope she finds her mate in this realm. If she finds her mate here, I would leave and make sure he or she keeps her safe.
"Wait here, and try to stay hidden," I advised.
I turned to Emily "we need to hurry, nightwalkers, aren't very fond of the sun. If he is not a nightwalker, we'll wait until sunrise and search once again." I grabbed my sword but gave the bag with the rest of the weapons to Bloodstar. I pulled my hoodie over my head, not wanting anyone to recognize me.
We quickly reached the town, and that seemed to excite Emily. " Don't attract attention Em."
The town was small, just like the ones were to follow except for Boruta. That place would be the hardest.
We walked around town in the hope of smelling something. I saw her shoulders drop in defeat.
"Hey, It's ok, don't lose hope," I said, trying to lift her mood. That seemed to work because she jumped up in excitement, clapping her hands. My mouth formed a smile. It was so easy to convince her to do anything.
"Would you like to wait here for sunrise?" I asked.
"Yes!" she exclaimed in excitement, and she slightly cleared her throat. "I mean. If that's all right with you?" I chuckled but nodded.
The sun would rise in about an hour. Emily was jumping from side to side.
She was impatient, and I understood her. I would be acting the same way if I was her.
"You'll find him or her, Em. Whatever you prefer, I guess," I said uncomfortably.
"I don't have a preference," she giggled at my uncomfortable state.
After that was said, we waited silently for the sun to rise. After we repeated the same path with the sun up, we returned to Bloodstar with our shoulders dropped in defeat.
We repeated the same routine in Abel and Abaddon over the next two days. We were now moving on to Boruta, but I didn't believe it would be that easy to stay hidden.
There were more guards and powerful vampires. I could see Emily slowly losing hope.
"Don't fly too close," I whispered.
We landed, slowly no attracting any attention by landing at a reasonable distance. We walked in slowly, trying to stay hidden. If I had trained on how to use my new powers, I could have made us invincible with the light of the moon. I really need to stop being a scary cat and try and use my powers.
Just when we were about to sneak in into the city, I felt something moving behind me, but I was too late. I pushed Emily into the city, giving her enough time to walk around the city and find her mate. "Don't worry about me," was the last thing I struggled to get out.
The vampire slowly sank its teeth into my neck, making me paralyzed in fear. I snapped out of it. I won't let it happen again. I won't be defenseless. I reached back and tried grabbing the vampire, trying to reap its teeth from my neck.
After a few seconds of struggle, I did it. I felt weak because of the blood loss. I tried staying awake and blinked rapidly, not losing my grip on the vampire. I reached for my sword and slammed it on his chest, making him burn slowly. I watched him disintegrate into ashes. I guess it makes sense he was a nightwalker, and the light burns him. And technically, the sun is a star that was never born.
I walked into the city, tracing Emily's smell. She smelled like Vanilla cupcakes, and cookies and cream ice cream. I guess it does go with her personality. I eventually found her trail. She wasn't so far away. I looked up, and there she was. I discreetly walked up to her and pulled her to a dark alley.
I reached up and pulled all the hair strands off her face. "Are you ok? Are you hurt?" I questioned, checking her for any injuries.
"I'm perfectly fine Asteria. But are YOU okay?" she asked, slightly pushing me back scanning me, head to toes.
"I'm fine, it was easy to kill him," I said.
I sighed " Now we should hurry and look for your mate, the faster we find him," I said. "the faster I'll leave." I whispered as I walked away.
