Chapter 29 - Whitey

Chapter 29 - Whitey

"Since we are on the topic of the special material, we can make them appear more frequently if we use them to upgrade the flora and fauna of an area. If we do that, they will appear more frequently in the wild," Valiant added.

"So, in case of upgrading the area, can anything be used to upgrade the area? Including the special material?" Adrian asked.

"Yes. However, not everyone is willing to part with their special material. Even if they used it to upgrade an area, that does not mean they will be the one to find the same material in the wild. So, most of the time, they decide to use it for themselves," Valiant raised his shoulder.

Valiant also mentioned that he was like that too. When he found the special material in the past, he would use it for himself. He felt that the responsibility of upgrading an area fell on the higher-ups. As a commoner, he did not have that responsibility as he had paid the tax every month.

However, Valiant's mindset had changed after he became a leader. If he wanted the people he led to growing stronger, he needed to sacrifice the special material he found to upgrade an area. He might lose it but he would be able to find it again many times later.

"… I think it is more beneficial to upgrade an area. The chance of finding the same material will be higher with the upgrade," Adrian mumbled.

"Back to the topic of taming. If you want to use tame, you need to touch your target. You can create a better taming skill later but for the most basic taming, you need to touch the target," Valiant spoke.

Adrian nodded and since they were talking about the special material, he was curious about it. He also wondered that the reason they could not produce it was that they did not know about science?

Adrian decided to tame a few rabbits to search for this so-called special material. While they were traveling back, Adrian found a rabbit and decided to tame it. He chose rabbit instead of sparrow because chasing after a sparrow was harder.

Adrian's feet shone. He increased his speed because the rabbit had high speed. He was used to fighting the rabbit and thus, it was not hard for him to chase after one. In less than a second, Adrian caught a white rabbit.

"Tame!" His hand shone in blue light and he felt some of his energy depleted. The skill used five energy points and the success rate of the taming was 100% for the animal of the same level as Adrian. Since every creature in the Green Orchid area was level 1, the animals would all fall for Adrian's taming skill.

In a second, Adrian got a notification.

[Would you like to name your tamed animal?] the system asked.

"How many animals can I tame?" Adrian asked. The skill did not mention any limit to it and he asked Future about it.

[You can tame as many as you want but you can only make them your pet based on your level. For every five levels, you can make one of them your pet] Future replied.

"Is there any difference between a pet and a tamed?" Adrian asked.

[Yes. A tamed creature will not fully listen to your command. The best way to say it is that they cannot understand your command. Since you want to search for the special material, a tamed creature will not be able to help you]

"Huh? Then what is the point of taming many creatures?" Adrian was confused.

[A tamed creature will change its attitude towards you. A hostile one will turn nice and the same with the coward and so on. Let say you ask a tamed creature to search for the special material. They will not search for one but instead loitering around doing the same thing they do every day] Future explained.

[Making the tamed creature your pet, the pet can understand your command and once you advance in your skill as a tamer, you will receive a lot of benefits from your pet] Future added.

Adrian understood. The taming skill was just a method to make the creature like you. Similar to the cats he tamed behind the dorm. They would not listen to his command but their attitude toward him was nice. If Adrian was to adopt the kitten, they would become his pet and slowly and steadily would understand his command.

Since Progress was a game, those 'slowly and steadily' of a tamed creature were omitted once he made them his pet.

[If you named the tamed creature, it becomes your pet] Future added.

Adrian decided to name the white rabbit he tamed. "Since you are a white rabbit, I will call you Whitey." He chose the simplest name he could think of.

After Adrian named the White Rabbit, the data of the rabbit was updated.

[I will not tell you what the Bond is for but to increase the bond, it is easy. Spend some time with your pet, feed it, and so on. The bond will decrease if you do things that the pet dislikes] Future spoke.

[Since Whitey is now your pet, he is not bound by the area, and thus, it will level up normally like everyone. If you use it in battle, it will gain the same amount of experience you get. As for the skills, you can teach it yourself and you know the drill. The skill needs to be based on its special stat] Future explained.

Adrian scratched his head as he did not know what skills he would teach for the White special stat. The rabbit stat was easier to create a skill but not the white star.

"You make it your pet?" Valiant asked.

"Yes. I want to search for the special material," Adrian replied.

Valiant's eyes lit up and he asked, "Are you going to upgrade…" Valiant stopped there and he realized that they had no area they could use the special material on. "We will need to conquer this area as fast as possible!" Valiant was determined to conquer the Green Orchid area.

Be that as it may, he needed to find the condition to conquer the area. Without knowing the condition, he could not make the area under the rule of the Green Orchid Settlement.

Adrian looked at Whitey and he could feel the connection made between them. However, the connection was feeble and he knew that to strengthen it, he needed to increase the bond between them.

"Here is a gift for our first meeting," Adrian took out a red apple and gave it to Whitey. Whitey tilted his head and stared at the apple. His nose moved and he sniffed on the apple. After that, he took a bite and continued eating the apple.

Whitey seemed to love the apple. Adrian was glad. He checked Whitey's status, unfortunately, the bond did not increase. 'It looks like it is not easy to increase the bond,' thought Adrian.

Adrian was thinking and decided to halt his plan of searching for the special material. He wanted to increase his bond with Whitey first because if he immediately asked Whitey to search for the special material, their bond would not increase and Whitey might hate him too.

Adrian and Valiant continued their journey back to the settlement while Whitey following behind them. Half an hour later, the duo arrived at the settlement.

Adrian went back to his 'home' to see Keith and Ceylon's progress while Valiant went to meet the blacksmith to discuss if he could use the stone to make tools and equipment.

When he arrived at their home, Keith and Ceylon were still focusing on training Energy Control and Energy Manipulation. They felt someone approaching and saw it was Adrian.

"How is your training?" Adrian asked.

"…This is harder than I thought. Adrian, can you do that again? Channeling your energy," Keith asked. "I cannot get the energy out no matter what I do and I want to have that feeling again!"

"Adrian, help me too. I am the same…" Ceylon asked the same thing too.

"Sure," Adrian smiled and decided to help them again.

"Hmm?" Ceylon saw a white rabbit hopping behind Adrian. "What is this?" Ceylon asked in surprise. Since it was an animal, he was not alarmed.

"My tamed animal," Adrian replied.
