Meeting the Chief

A new day had arrived, and I was enjoying myself in my room, just relaxing and letting the time slowly pass. This is the dream, not having to worry about things. In my past life, all I did was worry because if I wasn't careful, people I cared about got hurt. Now, I don't have to worry about that, which is a great relief.

Wait a second, what do I look like?

HOW HAS THIS THOUGHT NEVER CROSSED MY MIND? Okay, calm down me, I probably look fine, nothing to worry about. Let's just go over to the window and look at my reflection.

Getting out of bed, I walk over to the window, taking a moment to gaze at myself. Even though there is a bright sunlight coming through the window, I can clearly see myself on the window, almost as if it were a mirror.

Now then, for the moment of truth. I let my eyes wander along my figure. I have shoulder length platinum-silver hair that is silky smooth and straight. My eyes are a deep purple, yet they have an irresistible glimmer in them. My face is completely clean, not a single blemish on it. It was also perfectly proportionate, completely matching up. In fact, my entire body was proportionate with itself. I had a nice slim figure, with my height being rough 5'10.

My... I'm pretty. That is the best way to describe it. I'm neither lacking nor overcompensating in any place. I'm more or less a perfect beauty. Thankfully though, I'm not eye-catching per se, rather, I'm like a hidden beauty. Noticeable, but only when you truly take a moment to admire. I kinda prefer it this way, because if I was noticeable, I would be crowded. You know, this will work for me. Yeah, I like this.

Well, I can't just spend all of my time in here though, so maybe a nice walk? Yeah, that sounds good to me.

I quickly make my way out of the room and down the stairs, but not the ridiculous kind of quick, just the normal quick. In the small reception area, both Adam and Mildred are sitting down together at the small table, hand in hand, laughing and enjoying each other's company. Lucy sat behind her desk, as usual, watching them with glee. Must be nice...

"Hey, where are you going Estelle?"

Adam spoke up, noticing me as I came downstairs.

"I was thinking about going for a walk."

"Well if you don't mind, would you mind tagging along with me and Mildred, we were about to go see my father, the chief."

"Sure, I don't see why not. Let's go."

At that, both Adam and Mildred stood up from the table, their hands still clasped together, and made their way past me and through the door. I already knew where the chief's house was thanks to my map, but they didn't know that so I had to follow them.

It wasn't long before we made our way from the inn to the Chiefs house, which was in the middle of the village. It was the biggest of all the houses and made from better quality materials. For comparison, this house was twice as big as the inn, which was twice as big as one of the regular houses, which were about the same size of a regular house from my past world.

When we got to the front door, Adam knocked three times rather loudly, probably to make sure that even from the back of the house, he could be heard. A few moments later, the door opened. Inside, a middle aged man stood.

He wasn't remarkable in any sort of way. In fact, he had a forgettable face, and my photographic memory didn't let me forget. A small blonde mustache grew on his face. His hair was a little unkempt, and his eyes were sunken. He doesn't seem to be in the best of shape.

"Hey dad, will you let us in?"

Adam's dad moved out of the way, allowing us passage into the house.

"Come in."

His voice was tired sounding, and had a gravelly tone to it.

Is he okay?

Once we all came inside, Adam began to introduce us all.

"Dad, meet Estelle. She is the one that helped get me and Mildred together, and she will also be in town for a while."

I wonder why he didn't introduce Mildred? If I had to guess, I would assume he already knows her. I mean, it is just a small village after all.

"Hmm."

He gave a short nod as I was introduced.

"Estelle, meet my dad."

"My name is Paul."

As he spoke, he held his hand out. I them moved my hand in, making a handshake. As our hands touched, his eyes shot open, briefly, before he quickly hid it.

"Nice to meet you."

There was then an awkward moment of silence as no one said anything. After what was an unbearable pause, Adam chuckled lightly to break the silence.

"Well dad, I just thought I would introduce her since she would be in town for a while. We will be going now."

"You and Mildred go on, but Estelle, I would like you to stay here and chat with me."

"Uhm, okay I guess."

I mean, I don't really have a reason to say no, and he is the chief.

"Well, Mildred and I will go ahead. See you later, Estelle."

"Yeah, see you later."

At that, both Adam and Mildred went on without me.

"Now that they've gone, can I ask you something?"

"Sure, go ahead."

His eyes stared straight into mine, clearly trying to figure me out. What is with him?

"Okay then. Tell me who you really are and what you're doing here."

"... Huh?"
