Contract

Ah, another day. Just like every day before, I awoke to the sound of birds chirping, the windy breeze whistling through that air, and a sigh that left my body as I stretched. I always awake to the same thing, and I always love it.

What should I make for breakfast toda-

Before I could finish my thought, a loud banging came from the front door of the house. People outside knocked on my door for one of two reasons. A friend has come to visit, or my services are required.

Well, laying here isn't going to do anything. I guess I should go and see who it is. I picked myself up and off of the bed and left my small and cozy room, making my way over to the front door. Once I got there, I opened it up.

It seems my services are required. Damn, and here I was thinking about getting some chores done too. Clementine, Gabriel's servant, stood outside my door. She wore the same outfit that she always had on when I saw her. A simple maids uniform, exactly like all of the others in his mansion.

"What do you want?"

I spoke first, not wanting to bother with pleasentries. I'm annoyed right now, and I show it in the tone of my voice.

"Gabriel requested to see you at his mansion."

"Okay, and what does he want?"

"He didn't tell me."

Clementine always spoke in the same monotone voice as well, not letting any emotions leak out. It always made me mad because of how annoying it sounded.

"Fine. I'll be there in a few minutes."

With that, I closed the door and went back to my room. In my room, there's a small chest that holds my super hero costume, if you will. All it is is the white mask that Daniel gave me as well as a simple purple themed uniform. I didn't choose the clothes, Gabriel did. He said that the purple matched my almost glowing purple eyes. Personally I hate it, but I couldn't do anything about it.

Within seconds, I had put on the outfit with my super speed and was ready to go and meet Gabriel. Everytime I went to meet him, there was something he needed done, and to do that, I needed my costume.

Once my outfit was on, I made my way outside where Clementine was already beginning the long walk back to the city. Instead of helping her, however, I began to quickly run all the way to Gabriel's mansion. Normally, I would have helped Clementine, but there are two reasons why I don't. The first being that if I carried her into the city and people saw, they would eventually think to follow her out of the city to find where I live. The second reason is that I don't like her.

It didn't take long for me to get to Gabriel's while I hopped along from rooftop to rooftop. Some people below me pointed me out as I hopped, cheering when I passed by, but I usually ignore them because if I do take the time to meet and greet, a huge crowd will build up because of how popular I am in the city.

It didn't take long before I arrived at his mansion, which was the same as it was the first time I came here over a year ago. Five stories high, heavily guarded, a bunch of servants, and lavishly decorated. Once I arrived, I was welcomed by everyone there, including the servants that were secret bodyguards.

I was quickly led to Gabriel's office, where I finally met with him. He was sitting behind his desk as usual, going through papers like he usually did.

"Ah, you're here. Let me explain what's going on right now. We've been having problems with a large group of thieves in the high-class district. They have been breaking into buildings and stealing everything valuable that they can. We would like to stop them, but due to their sneaky nature, we just can't seem to figure out where their base is. What I need you to do is figure out where they are and deal with them."

"Yes sir."

I don't like doing these jobs for Gabriel, but one year ago, I signed a secret contract to be a protector of the city should there ever be the need of my assistance. My conditions for signing the contract were that I wanted to live outside of the city where I couldn't be bothered, and I wanted a weekly supply of food. Those were my only conditions.

While the fact that I signed the contract to protect the city wasn't made public, it was made public that there was a protector. People call me a hero for always being there to protect them when they most need it, but I don't do it for them. I do it to atone for the people I let down in the last gang war. I could, and should, have helped them, but I didn't, so I do this instead to try and make up for it.

So, it seems that my next mission is to deal with a group of thieves that have been causing trouble in the high-class. If I had to guess, I would assume their base wouldn't actually be in the high-class district, but a neighboring one instead. I'll start with those first.

With that, I left Gabriel's office and went out to search for the group of thieves.
