Chapter Nine: Visit to the Office

By the time Angie was done putting everything in its place, it was way past 9 O'clock. Feeling stiff and a dead tired, she decided to order in her dinner, enjoy taking it while watching TV and take the much needed rest.

The food arrived almost immediately after she had finished taking her shower. In fact, it was like God had communicated with the delivery guy to arrive at that specific time.

With her mind at rest and eager since Angie had a plan she intended to follow through, she did enjoy her meal and slept well. This happened for the first time since the fateful day Angie had received news about her mother.

Taking into account her day wasn't that full the next day, Angie decided to sleep in. Lazily leaving her bed around half past 8, Angie leisurely walked to a nearby salon to relax and pamper herself. Every girl needs it, right? And Angie was no exception.

Just like all women, she did enjoy her time at the salon. God knows she did need the pampering after the agonising days she had been through. As an afterthought, Angie decided to change her hair colour from black to blonde. Knowing it was all about her now, and not pleasing the good for nothing fiance. Angie had liked the colour since childhood and finally donning it on was like a visit to Disneyland.

The fact that she liked her new look, short blonde hair and British accent was a welcome relief. The compliments Angie received from both men and women alike when leaving the salon further affirmed her choices in dressing and overall look. To be precise, during her shopping spree the previous day, Angie had chosen to go for a complete casual look. However, she also adorned a few official wear for the meetings.

Instead of going back to the house, Angie decided to acquaint herself with the area. Taking a walk around the block, Angie discovered that her neighbours were not that far. She made a point of saying hi just in case she needed their help later on (if Ashley and her friends) decided to pay a visit.

Interestingly, there were CCTV cameras in almost every corner. This Angie believed was a plus to her installed security as intruders could easily be sported. Satisfied Angie went back to her house, picked a luminous green backpack and drove back to Lincolin.

Her main office was located there and she had to report in, check in with Bree on when the Amazon contract could be signed and organise her mum's burial. Driving slowly and lazily, Angie got there around 3.15 pm.

Walking straight to the reception, Angie asked for Bree and was directed on how she could get to her. The numerous glances Angie received as she moved across the floor clearly informed her that the choice she made to drop in wearing fitting jeans, sneakers and a t-shirt was perfect.

In addition, Angie did not leave behind her backpack. Bree's mouth fell open when she saw her. However, Bree still welcomed her and asked Angie to wait for five minutes. This is mainly because Bree was still on phone.

Sitting at the lobby, Bree joined Angie 10 minutes later.

Bree: Hi, am Bree

Angie: Hi, am Alexis. Angela's cousin.

Bree: nice to meet you.

Angie/Alexis: nice to meet you too.

Bree: how can I be of help?

Angie/Alexis: am here at my cousin's request to offer some help.

Bree: (remembers her conversation with Angie). Oh... Oh.... Ooooh. Come with am. Am so glad you are here.

Sighing with relief, Bree hugged Alexis a new. As they continued to talk, Bree pointed out to Alexis that some of her features and a tiny bit of her personality was similar to Angie's. Since there were no scheduled meetings and there were documents that needed signing, Bree asked Alexis whether she would like a tour of building and office or go through the documents. Alexis chose the former and suggested she could carry the work home and drop them in the following day.

After the tour, Bree made several calls then left to help Alexis get acquainted with the city. She also intended to ensure Alexis also met Zed Angie's lawyer. After a few rounds, Bree dropped Alexis at Zed's office and left.

After ascertaining the power of attorney has been changed and stamping it, they parted ways and Angie/Alexis was off to meet the hired private investigator. Without pleasantries, the investigator simply took the last sip of his coffee and handed the envelope to Angie and left.

How he recognised her was still beyond Angie's understanding. On seeing Angie's questioning eyes, he just mouthed "It's all there." Tempted to open it right there, Angie had to exercise great patience and calm. Angie gently placed the envelope next to the documents she had carried home from the office. Lifting the backpack a little, she felt the weight and wondered which of the two occupants was weighty before placing it back on the floor.

Without thinking much she tried having some small talk with the investigator, but ended up feeling uncomfortable. Seeing the investigator did not mind, Angie decided to accompany him in silence by making an order. Instead of ordering food, she simply asked for a cup of tea, took half of it and left for her new home.
