Chapter Eleven: In the Investigator's Report (Part II)

With her brother's whereabouts still unknown to Angie, Ashley and Marcus knew taking her out would benefit them literally. This is mainly because they were the closest to Angie and it only made sense she would leave them either a part of her inheritance or all of it. Technically, Angie was filthy rich. She was the sole owner of her father's vast estates.

In addition, Angie's mother also came from a wealthy background. And her wealth, other than the percentage willed to charity, the remainder was Angie's. With her brother Brandon still gone and no one knew whether he was still alive or dead, Angie was theoretically an only child. And by default, her wealth multiplied.

It was at this moment that it dawned on Angie why Ashley and Marcus were after her life. This is to the extent of threatening her lawyer Zed's life. Angie wondered how she had not seen this traits in these people she considered family. Am I Really Such a Terrible judge of character? Did changes happen to Ashley and Marcus that I did not Notice? Or did I not know them at all?

In summary, Angie concluded that with her money, she could easily clear their debts and still live like a princess/queen whichever you would prefer for over 100 years. This is without lifting a finger to do any job. But why were they after her life? Am I really a bad friend?

Angie had more questions that she could hardly answer. Deciding not to dwell on things she could not answer or handle, Angie decided to be more rational as she perfected her revenge plan.

Believing  their actions (hunt) towards her had killed any compassion and pity she might have had, Angie resumed reading the private investigator's report. Finally releasing her held breathe, she was  when she discovered the report  did not delve into explaining how the ex fiancé and ex best friend found themselves in their present predicament. Instead, the report proceeded to inform Angie that the person she had believed was her brother was actually an imposter. To be precise, an actor. Jason.

She had to re-read that paragraph over and over again. Thinking her brain and eyes were playing a trick on her, she decided to go for a run. After like 10 minutes, she came back took a glass of cold water and went back to reading the report. Discovering that for sure the person that was arrested, whose footage she had seen was not her brother elicited mixed reactions in her. She was relieved and angry at once.

But how? How did Ashley, Marcus and Jason pull it off? Even though Angie had not seen her brother, there are certain things about Brandon she could not forget. Like his walk, Unconscious twitch of his eye when he lied. And even the slight frown formed on his brow when he was serious or trying to avoid something or someone.

Angie had even heard the laughter. It surely sounded like her brother, though a little raspier. The rest of the page provided detailed information about Jason the impostor, his home town, his parents, how he was recruited, his cut after the whole deal was done etc. How that would come in handy, time would tell.

Angie then turned to the fifth page. Mercifully, there was no more new information for her regarding her conspirators she had to absorb. Instead, the private investigator had summarized the main points using bullet points. This made her smile. Angie made a mental note to reward the private investigator for a job well done.

On completing going through the report, she decided to take a break, dinner then start off with work. This is while having in mind the following day would be hectic as there would be back to back meetings, possible confrontations with Angie and/or Marcus and commencement of arrangements for her mother's burial. Just before Angie could warm her dinner,  her phone vibrated indicating an incoming text.

Absent mindedly, she unlocked her phone. Surprise was registered both in her mind and her brain. Even her mouth hang slightly open. The text notified her some of the things she had ordered had been dispatched and would arrive before in an hour's time. Talk about Efficiency.

Smiling widely, she was curious which products would arrive first. Humming softly, she started serving her dinner. She was right in the middle when the door bell rung. Without necessarily standing up, she took her phone, opened the security section and saw a delivery guy at the door.

Angry at being disturbed while having dinner, Angie dragged her feet opened the door and ushered the delivery guy in. This is with directions for him to put the products on the longer couch. Angie then signed her name before tipping the guy and showing him out.

Resuming her meal, Angie decided a little entertainment won't heart. She scrolled through different TV channels until she found one that piqued her interest before going back to eat.

By the time she got ready to work, it was half past 9pm. And the work was completed by midnight. Seeing that it was too late, she decided to open the delivered products the following day.
