Chapter 40: Atascadero, California

The radio crackled then Willis’s voice came through the radio, “Landon, are you alright?”

Landon didn’t say anything. He pushed against the wall again bringing his hands back up to his ears. Devin tried to get him to stop but his head was spinning again. He put his hand out to catch himself barely avoiding Landon, slumping beside him.

“Dev?”

Devin patted lightly on his brother’s arm then tapped the radio again.

Willis’s voice came back over, “Devin? Are you there? Where are you guys?”

Landon brought the radio back up, “we need help. I don’t-”

Devin nudged Landon writing on his skin with his finger. Landon understood the first word, ‘no’. Then the second was a bit harder, he caught a ‘cl’ but lost the rest of them. His hip pulsed.

“Landon, we’re headed your way,” Dallas said, “Willis and Tucker are headed south, and Clint and I will head north.”

Something clicked in his brain, Landon spoke again, “no Clint.”

“Why not?”
