Clenching his eyes and jaws together, Iggy answered back from the pillows. “I’m not going to Firmin. I won’t go to Firmin for anything, ever-”

Derson cut him off, hastily, “Coward!”

Iggy sat up in a rush. “Me a coward?! You’re the coward! You’ve been looking for me since-”

“You’re an idiot. You know what it means if he catches up separated?! I’m gone. Dead. No more.”

“That wouldn’t be all that bad!” Iggy replied.

“Alright,” Derson vehemently sighed and narrowed his eyes, “I see you’re going to really make something out of this, but there’s a lot that I want to say and you’re going to listen to me. Got it? You give me a job. A purpose. And if I’m not doing this job, forget about me, Nansen’s real younger brother.”

“You’re better off dead,” Iggy seethed.

“Maybe you’re right, but even if that wasn’t enough, you’re my best friend.”

The room fell silent and they stared at one another.
