25: Fire Fighting

Both his mother and father had called him about the article and he had listened to them tell him they had seen the article and they were both unimpressed. He had also asked them both not to lecture him and not to bring it up with his wife. Because they were his parents and they loved him, they had let it go.

His mother had said in parting, “You’re a big boy now, Greg. You’ll figure out what to do. I would personally sue that Warner for all that nonsense about Carlita, but I will let you handle this. Your wife, your life.”

“Thanks mom,” he had replied wryly.

He felt bad that Warner was the one who had seen him with that woman, but he still hadn’t called Donna. The day had been one meeting after another and that phone call was the first that had been put through to him the entire day. Now it was time to return it. Not knowing how she was taking her life being put in the spotlight again, he was not keen but he knew it had to be done without delay.
