I sighed as I walked out of Jason's apartment. "Worried about tonight?" He asked me.
"The only thing I am worried about is Papa. I know my songs I know my dances. It's Papa I am worried about." I tell him as I gripped his arm.
"Can't you use your eyes on stage?" He asked me.
"No, I don't wear glasses while on stage I want people to see me as blind and that a blind person can push the bounds of what everyone thinks." I tell him.
"I get that." He agrees.
"Besides I am not the first blind person to be onstage." I snort as I walked with him.
"I love you, sis." He said to me.
"I love you too." I said to him as he helped me into the car.
"Well, it's nice to see you how has your week been?" Dad asked.
"Nice to see you too Dad it was okay I was relaxing and practicing." I tell him. "Hello, Papa." I said softly.
"Lara." He said stiffly as the car started.
"What has you in a tissy?" I asked him.
"He's not looking forward to not being able to intervene in your show miss." Alfred said from the front.
"Dare I ask what Aunt Lois, Dad, and you threatened him with if he did?" I asked him.
"I simply said I would not make any Carmel pies." He said.
"I told him he would be on the couch for a month. And a week in the red room." Dad answered.
"Lois just gave me that glare and said if I intervened with the show it would not end well with me." Papa said.
"Good, then I won't have to worry about you stopping the show when you think something is too dangerous for me.
"But they are too dangerous for you!" He snarled at me.
"A hell of a lot less than if it was Cass or Steph!" I snapped back at him. "I may not have the healing factor but it's pretty hard to hurt me, Father." I spat at him. "I know my limits I know what I can and can't do and even then I am going to challenge those limits why because just because I am blind doesn't mean I am weak." I spat at him.
"I never said that!" He snaps back at me.
"The fuck you haven't." I yelled at him. "For years I was fighting, doing gymnastics, I had dance classes but then when I became blind you removed me from them even though the teachers said they would work with me in Gymnastics and Dance!"
"Miss Lara." Alfred said. "Volume." He reminds me.
"Right right sorry." I said taking in a deep breath and letting it out.
"Of course Miss." He said his voice made it sound like he was smiling and I smiled softly and sighed then.
"I understand you don't like the idea that I can do this. But I can do this." I tell him. "I don't need you to tell me I can't when I know I can."
"Lara." He hissed at me.
"That's my name, don't wear it out." I tell him. Both Dad and Jason snorted.
"Young lady."
"Young Lady." I mocked him. "You are blind you can not be a hero. Young Lady, you are Blind you can not be in gymnastics. Young Lady no you are blind you can not be in dance. Blah Blah Blah Blah! I heard the record a million times Father. Change your damn toon!" I spat at him. "How about Okay so your blind let's make sure you not your steps. Make sure you know where you land. Make sure that you don't lose your head from keeping secrets because you're overbearing, over protective, over-controlling Father would father you be bored and alone than actually living your own damn life." I snarled the last part as we stopped.
"Clark Lara!" Dad said before Papa could say anything. "We are here so let's not fight as we get out."
"Yea yea." I said as I slide out of the car.
"Lara." Alister said and I beelined it to him.
"I Need Kayla." I muttered to him.
"She's here and in the changing room." He tells me softly.
"Thanks." I said and walked away and I am sure Alister thought I was out of hearing range when I hear.
"Must you be such a Bastard Clack Kent-Wayne? That girl wants nothing more than your approval and yet you act as if she is a china doll who can do nothing right if she's not sitting still and looking pretty. Now we have another family guest so we booked a table in the VIP area for all of us so please don't get into a fight with them." I started humming my song as I kept walking not wanting to listen to any more of them.
"Hey, Miss Lara." I hear a young female voice say.
"Yes?" I asked looking towards the voice.
"Can I have your autograph?" She asked.
I smiled and held out my hands. "Sure but you will need to put my hand onto the paper." I said as a pen and what felt like a cd case was put into my hand and then they helped me to get the pen on it and I then Signed my stage name on it. "Here you go, love." I said passing it back to her.
"Thank you!" She said as someone yells.
"Olivia! What are you doing leave Miss Lara alone!" I hear the stagehand Nora call out.
"Nora it's fine I don't mind signing her cd pamphlet for her." I said with a smile.
Nora sighed. "Thank you, Miss Lara and I am sorry about my daughter. I wasn't able to get a sitter for her today." I nod.
"I understand that Nora if you need I am sure the girls would not mind if she hangs out with us while you get the stage taken care of."
"Are you sure?" Nora asked me.
"Sure and she can help me find my way since you know me I sometimes get lost." I joked with her. I haven't gotten lost in over a year." She sighed.
"That would be great." Nora sighed. "Thank you! Olivia, you listen to the Girls and you behave okay?"
"Yes, Mommy!"
"Great now we are looking for changing room 4 can you help me fight that?" I asked her.
"Yes!" She said.
"Great now take my hand and let's get a move on I to need to get glamour and we may be able to talk the nice makeup lady into doing you." I said holding out my hand.
"Okay!" She giggles and I followed her to the room and opened the door.
"I still can't believe he showed us." Dora said with a sigh.
"Hey, guys we have company!" I said.
"Oh hey there who is this?" Ruma asked.
"Guys this is Olivia she is Nora's daughter." I said as I felt Kayla press against my back. "She couldn't find a sitter but I thought we could look after her for a little bit at least until the stage was set up. I hope that is okay."
"I don't see why not." Dora said. "Wait is that our cd?" She asked her.
"Ahuh." She said softly.
"Do you want to rest of us to sign it for you?" Kalya asked.
"REALLY!?" She asked.
"Of course." Ruma said as Oliva let go of my hand.
"Yes please." She said her voice sounded so happy. I smiled as I was lead to a chair.
"So who came?" I asked Dora.
"Apparently here my Uncle Thor has a son and he came along with my uncle Humbul the frost giant." She tells me as she pulls my hair out of my ponytail and started getting my hair done.
"Where is Issy?" I asked her.
"Issy called in sick so we are on our own." She told me. "But that is okay." She chuckled.
"Once you finish us can you do Olivia?" I asked her.
"Of course." She said. "That's practice anyways."
"Did you give them a crystal?" I asked her.
"Of course." She huffed as she worked. "So Sky's song first then darkness then wings yes?" she asked me
"Yup." I agreed with her.
"Sky song?" Olivia asked.
"Our newest song." I tell her.
"You want to go through it one more time before you have to do it on stage?" Ruma asked me.
"Probably should." I sighed. I sat up a little straighter and started softly. "You are not your makeup, you are not their word." My voice slowly rose as I sang. "You are strong as superwoman, your hearts as strong as steel." The door slammed open making us all jump.
"What do you want Marath?" Kayla snaps at her.
"Not now." I groaned.
"What…"
"Nope nope nope." Alister said as I hear the wind wealing. "You are not bothering them before the performance you can speak to your sister after." He said as the door slammed shut.
"That works." Kayla said and I sighed not able to slump all that well as Dora did my hair.
