Green Man

After a few minutes of following the blue figure they finally found it.

Derick and Alice slowly approached a tree and calmly watched the monster.

He was in an open field, near a bush. Apparently, it was looking for something to eat.

He was small, about the height of a child, about 1 meter 20 centimeters (3' 11.24"), his eyes were black and he had two large pointed dark circles under his eyes.

He had a small dagger, it was hanging from his waist, and a small piece of cloth covered his private parts. Apparently, this monster was male.

What stood out most about him was not his black eyes, or the dark circles under his eyes, but the tone of his skin which was a moss green.

***

Obviously, most of them had never seen this monster in person. They knew this monster from the legend of the "Green Man".

The legend said that in the dead of midnight the "Green Man" would come and take away the bad children. The luckier children would become carpets in their little houses. While the unlucky ones would suffer for the rest of their lives.

Many parents told their children this story, including Derick's parents.

When Derick's father told him this story, Derick was not afraid, but curious. He wanted to know more about the legend and so whenever he could he asked his father about the legend.

Until after much insistence Derick's father told him about the "Green Man" monster.

***

Derick gathered in his mind the information he knew about this monster.

"Alice, I think we'd better leave" Derick spoke in a worried tone.

A goblin alone was very weak, but when they were in large numbers, they could easily kill a pack of wolves.

"Relax." Alice spoke in a nonchalant tone "Most likely his pack is far away. Look" She pointed to where the monster was.

It had no place for other goblin to hide, it only had bushes that even for the Goblin were too small.

The closest tree to him was where Derick and Alice were.

"All right!" Even though Derick had agreed not to retreat, he still felt that there was something strange, it was never good to underestimate the enemy, especially if the enemy was such a treacherous creature. "So, what's the plan?"

"Here's the plan..." Alice spoke.

The plan was pretty simple, it boiled down to: Shoot, advance and finish.

"Derick, are you ready?"

Derick picked up his bow and took a deep breath.

"Yes!" Derick was totally focused; any mistake would mean their death.

The monster was not far away, the distance between them was approximately 50 meters.

"3, 2... 1 NOW!" Alice shouted and started running towards the goblin.

When Alice screamed Derick quickly fired two arrows.

The first one hit the chest. As the goblin was not very big, the arrow went right through his body.

And without even knowing where the shot had come from, the second arrow shot straight through his right eye.

In the time that these two arrows were fired, Alice had already arrived where the monster was.

And without having a single chance to defend himself, the goblin was decapitated by Alice.

***

"Good, everything worked out!" Derick approached Alice and spoke.

"Didn't I tell you?" Alice gave a smile.

The two looked at each other and were happy that they had killed the goblin without too much difficulty, but this happiness would not last for long.
