The first day

"You've got the job"

Daniel's new boss told him. Daniel smiled, he got out his phone and quickly texted the group chat they had created.

"When do I start?"

Daniel asked him

"If you could today, we are very understaffed. I'll introduce you to your new co-workers, just follow me, oh by the way here's your uniform"

She gave Daniel an apron and then she walked to the back room with Daniel quickly followed her.

"So here's Lizzie"

A mean looking girl stepped out

"Hi, I'm Lizzie, well my name is actually Elizabeth, everyone calls me Lizzie though but you can call me Liz. What's your name oh and welcome"

She smiled

"Umm thanks I'm Alexander but you can call me Alex"

He answered

"Lizzie could you please show Alexander around, I need to do something"

The boss instructed Lizzie, Lizzie nodded.

"Ok well looks like I'm your tour guide, so what brings you here"

"My parents died so I wanted a better life"

"Oh that went deep fast. Franz come here meet the new co-worker"

Liz yelled, a young boy around the age of 18 ran to Liz.

"Hallo, my name is Franz"

He gave out his hands and Daniel shook his hand

"Hi, I'm Alex"

They both awkwardly looked at each other before Liz coughed

"So that's all of us, so put on your apron and I'll show you the basics and then you'll go upfront and you know do the registers"

She explained. Liz showed Daniel the whole shop and where everything was. She showed him the basics of the registers and a few words to use when talking to customers. After an hour of Daniel getting to know the ropes of working in a supermarket.

"Ok off you go my little bird it's time for you to fly out of the nest"

Liz laughed and showed Daniel to where he will be sitting for the rest of the day.

"Here's where you will be sitting, if you need anything ask Franz. Now show me how do you sign in"

She instructed. Daniel slowly signed in.

"Yes the bird is out of the nest, so now I must leave you. Bye bye!"

Liz then left. Seconds later an older lady came and placed down some foods on the band.

"Here we go"

Daniel whispered.

"Oh hello are you new, I've never seen you here before"

The lady asked

"Yeah"

"Well it's nice to meet you"

Daniel quickly scanned all the foods

"Your total is 32$. Would you like to use cash or credit card?"

"Cash, here you are. Keep the change"

"Thank you, have a nice day"

"You too"

Daniel sighed, he had just finished his first customer. He looked over to Franz.

"The first customers are always the hardest"

Franz smiled to him

"Where are you from, you have an accent"

"Oh I'm from Germany, I moved here three years ago because my parents kicked me out and then I got a job here but I got fired a while ago, so I work here now"

"Oh why did they kick you out"

"They didn't accept me"

"I'm sorry"

Daniel turned around after a lady coughed to get his attention

"I'm sorry"

Daniel quickly apologized. The lady shook her head.

"Hurry up, I've got to get home to my kids"

She yelled at him

"Your total is 58.30$"

"I've been here multiple times and everytime my total is 50$"

"Uhh I'm sorry but the registers says it's 58.30 so I can't really change anything"

"Well I want it for 50$"

"I'm sorry I can't do that, just pay don't you need to get to your kids"

"Here, but know I am never coming here ever again"

She threw 60$ dollars at me and ran out of the store with her bags"

"Wait your change"

Daniel yelled running after. Once he made it to the exit he just turned around and walked back to his register.

For the next four hours he was getting used to working at the supermarket, some customers he served were nice others were not.

"Hey it's our break do you maybe want to go to the coffee shop down the road"

Franz asked Daniel

"Sure"

So the two boys went to the coffee shop

"So what brings you too New Hope, I've never seen you here before"

Franz asked Daniel

"My parents both died and I wanted to move to get a better life and a friend of mine told me that they had a friend who is looking for roommates and so I called the friend and now I'm here."

"I'm sorry"

"It's fine"

"So how do you like it here so far".

"I've been here for two days and I've just spent my time at my new house and I've been jogging around the outskirts a lot and I must say it's very beautiful"

"Yeah it's a very quiet town, not much happens here"

"I hope, I used to live in a big city and I didn't enjoy it that much."

"Have you seen the news recently"

"Not really"

"Oh so seven rich teens escaped a jail cell and now the entire country is on search for them"

"Sounds interesting"

"Yeah, it is. Imagine if they came here. I mean it seems like the perfect place, peaceful, not many people. But no one comes here."

"I can't even imagine"

"Neither"

"So do you have some recommendations for food places, I would love to have some places where I can get dinner"

"Oh yeah there's a place called Sprig & Vine it's vegan and so delicious would definitely recommend"

The next ten minutes the two boys talked before heading back to the supermarket for their next shifts. Throughout the next 4 hours Daniel got a text from Quinn:

'Hey can you bring some food so once you're done Sage can cook dinner'

So after Daniels shift he brought some food, said goodbye to his new co-workers and left back home.

While Daniel had just left the house at 6:30am, Sage cleaned up both of their bowls and waited for the others to get up. At 8am everyone had gotten breakfast other than Beth who no one had heard or seen from.

"So where is Daniel and Beth."

Melania asked

"Uh Daniel is trying to get a job and Beth is in her room I don't know I haven't seen her today"

Sage answered

"So Sage have you gotten an order yet"

Quinn asked

"No not yet"

Sage looked down

"What are we doing today"

Nathaniel asked still eating

"Well I need to do a few more things for our school, you know choose what classes we all want and doing a bit more sign up sheets"

Quinn answered

"I'm going to work on the garden, I need to do some weeding and some other stuff"

Sage chirped, grabbing everyone's dishes to start cleaning them.

"I don't know maybe start an onlyfans"

Becca joked

"I'm not actually doing that, I'm 17 thats illegal. Me and Melania are going to do a bit of online shopping because we're buying clothes to restyle and then sell"

Becca clarified

"Yeah that's what I'm doing"

Melania agreed

"I was hoping one of you guys were going to do something interesting"

Nathaniel groaned

"I'm just gonna go watch Netflix on my laptop"

Nathaniel decided

"Do that"

Melania laughed. And so everyone left to do their things, Nathaniel stayed in the living room, Sage went outside, Becca and Melania went into Melania's room, Quinn went into her room. After an hour Sage came running inside screaming:

"I got an order, I got an order. Nathaniel you're going to help me. We need to make three of the flowers in a bottle and the earrings with dried flowers, you make the bottles, I'll make the earrings"

Nathaniel paused Gossip Girl and went over to the kitchen table where Sage sat getting everything ready.

"Were you watching Gossip Girl?"

Sage asked

"No!"

He quickly defended himself

"Put it on I still need to finish season seven. Wait where are you watching this on"

"Beth brought a Netflix account, apparently she has a bank account that no one knows about"

"Oh, well put on Gossip Girl"

"If anyone sees this you're watching it"

"Yeah, I won't tell anyone you were watching Gossip Girl to keep your masculinity in check"

"What"

"Well you don't want people to think you're watching a show that targets girls, it's called toxic masculinity"

"I just don't want people to think I watch Gossip Girl, what's so wrong about that"

"Everything, watching Gossip Girl is completely fine. It's a good show about rich kids. You don't need to feel ashamed. Anyway, get to work. I want to send these out today. I'm also going to send a second pair of earrings for my first customers. So hurry up, please!"

"Ok, Ok I'm going"

Nathaniel put on Gossip Girl and started to create the bottles with flowers inside.

"I'm done, should I help you with the earrings?"

Nathaniel asked once he was done

"Yeah, it should be easy, here's some instructions I wrote down"

Sage gave him a piece of paper

"Have you heard from Beth, I'm getting a bit worried, she hasn't eaten in awhile and last time she ate she didn't eat lots"

Nathaniel asked

"I've been outside, you've been inside if anyone you would of seen her as soon as she leaves the room we can see her from here"

"Yeah, maybe. You know you're right"

"Hey, we're all worried we just don't want to disturb her. If she hasn't come out before dinner I'll knock"

"Yeah, she hasn't eaten a lot since she got here"

"Yes, In the car she ate a lot but once she arrived here she stopped eating. But let's stop talking about her I feel bad talking about her while she's not here"

"You're to sweet"

"I try, we need more good in the world and I want to bring this good in"

"But we also need a bit of bad to outweigh the good"

"But there's too much bad, the bad is over taking, plus what's so bad about being good. Being good helps, you know how many people I've helped, there is this nice old lady Miss Ingles and she is very old, has no family that lives close to her or lovers and I always helped her with her groceries and cleaning, she would always be telling me about her stories when she was younger and she would be with all these boys and have fun. When she died last year, all her family that came in hugged me and I was invited to the funeral. Then the family gave me a bit of their inheritance for helping their family member without pay, I didn't take the money of course, I didn't need it, but to see the families smile and be thankful that I helped their family member made my day. I've helped so many other people but she was definitely my favorite."

"Well that seems nice"

"Yeah I Miss Ingles. You know I never found out her first name, I always called her Miss Ingles."

"What about her funeral?"

"Never, at the funeral they never mentioned her name and I never felt to ask, I think they thought that they knew"

"How long did you know her"

"Well I meet her when I was 14 when she dropped her groceries on her way home, I helped her and then I asked if she had anyone at home to help her she said no then I said I would help her bring her stuff home she then asked me if I wanted to maybe help her all the time I obviously said yes and she died when I was 17 so three years"

"You knew her for three years and never asked her for her first name"

"Well I first asked her what her name was and she said Miss Ingles"

"Well you could have asked later on"

"Ok leave me alone if she wanted to tell me she could have I didn't want to invade her privacy so just leave me alone about Miss Ingles"

"Got it"

"No, No, No you're doing it wrong you need to push the wire in by the white dot not the black one"

"Ok sorry"

"I just want it to be perfect cause then they will give me good reviews and then I will get more orders so I need it to be perfect"

"Got it"

"Good. I'm just very stressed"

"I know, you've said that in like five different ways"

"I'm sorry"

"Stop saying sorry, Sage. You don't need to apologize, I'm not that mean that you need apologize"

"I'm sorry I will stop apologizing, Sorry for saying sorry. Damit"

"Ok I'm done"

"Finally now lets package this thing up and then we'll walk to the post office and ship it off"

They both agreed, finished up the order, got ready and left for town. Once they arrived at the post shop they gave the package off and set for the house again. Once they arrived Sage went back to the garden and Nathaniel continued watching Gossip Girl.

At 6:30pm Daniel came home with the food and so Sage started to cook. 15 minutes later Nathaniel went round and knocked on everyone's doors to tell them dinner was ready. At this point Beth still hadn't come out of her room, so Nathaniel asked Daniel to knock on her door. So Daniel did

"Beth, it's me Daniel"

"What do you want"

"I just wanted to tell you dinner was ready, so if you want you can come out and eat"

"I'll come out in a few minutes"

Beth replied and she threw on some clothes and left her room. Everyone ate and once dinner was done Beth retreated back into her room. And soon so did everyone else.
