Alyssa meets New York

Alyssa was sitting in her small cramped apartment, it had been one months since she had shot Beth and she felt horrible. She wanted to quit so badly but her father was the chief and she didn't want to be a disappointment to her parents. She hadn't been to work since she came back due to her being 'sick'. She felt sick, she wanted to check up on the group to see if she had killed the poor girl who ran in front of a bullet. But she couldn't bring herself to go there and see how they were doing, she felt like a fuck up, like she had done everything wrong. She had convinced her father to put the case on hold and focus on other cases, she had done everything to make sure the group wouldn't get caught. It was the least she could do. She had started to look for jobs away from California that she wanted. She wanted to do something with social media, she knew that staying in LA would be her best option but she couldn't due to her parents. She had a bit of money to save to move but it wouldn't last long.

Her loyal fan base has been there for here whenever she needed to rant or ask for advice on her situation, at this point she had garnered a little under 500k on Insta and 1 million on YouTube, she would talk about her life and that's why she was determined to get a job because then she could always fall onto something and she had something where she could make content about, she also didn't want to lose her relatability and what made people like her, she needed peoples validation to function, she needed the love, likes, compliments from strangers to keep her happy, it was addicting like a drug. Once she got one compliment she needed more, it was never enough to satisfy her. She needed the approval of everyone otherwise she would be broken. She hid this flaw under smiles and laughs, jokes and a mask so she could get the validation she so craved.

Everyone was telling her to just quit, get up and leave, but she couldn't. She knew it was an easy decision but she couldn't just up and leave, she had friends, she grew up here, and despite all her parents. She had to make this seemingly easy choice, but for some reason she felt it was hard. She wanted a sign to leave, something that said:'Get out of here and move', but she hadn't had a sign.

She looked up to the ceiling, she then got up and called her father letting him know she was going to be heading into work today. Once she had let him know she got changed and ready, her shift starts at 7am and it was 6:30am, she had to drive 25 minutes to get to work. So she raced to her car to head off to work. She logged in at 6:59 and went to her desk. She saw papers piled onto her desk so she started to get working on them and every once and awhile she would film a bit for her YouTube. She wasn't having fun but she was so invested in her work that she didn't realize that it was lunch break. But as she wanted to get her lunch she was called in by her father.

"Alyssa come to my office"

His stern voice echoed through the speaker, she sighed and got up and her head down walked towards her fathers office.

"Yes chief, what did you want"

She sighed

"I know I don't tell you this enough but I'm very proud of what you did for the seven teens missing case even if we didn't find them. But I am proud that you are my daughter"

"Thanks dad"

A single tear came out of Alyssa's eyes, she hugged her dad hard she didn't want to let go but she knew she had too

"Now go back outside I don't want your coworkers to think I've gone soft now"

And he was back

"Yes chief"

And Alyssa smiling went out of her office, she now had a reason to stay not leave, she was more conflicted than ever. She sat back at her desk and got to work, more motivated to make her dad proud and get to work. Throughout work she got a text from her friend in New York:

'Hey, they have an opening for a job here. It's to become a social media manager, I believe you have a degree in communications right?'

'Yeah I do and please send in my things'

'Will do, I'm rooting for you'

She placed her phone down

"I might as well go for it"

She whispered trying to convince herself that she should take the risk and do something to make her happy and not for everyone else. She spent the rest of the day filing reports. When her shift was done she grabbed her things, walked out and left to go back to her house. On the way she made the impulsive decision, she swerved her car and drove her fastest to the airport, she hopped onto the first flight she could to New York and flew there. She texted her friend on the way that she was coming and he picked her up. He informed her of everything that she needed to know. They both got to the office where her friend worked so she could do the interview herself. She walked into the office with her resume.

"Hi I'm Alyssa and I was told you were hiring"

She introduced herself

"Yes we are, Nick told me about you. So sit down and let's get this interview started"

The boss smiled and sat down

"So why do you want this position"

"Well first off I've been looking at jobs working in the social media field as I myself have a following and would like to continue working in the area. And I was very happy when Nick told me because I've been looking to move out of the California area and I think New York would be perfect"

"So what's your history"

"I have a degree in communications but for the last two years I have been working as a police officer but I never enjoyed it. And as I said before I have a following on social media so I know how social media works"

"Ok, so you keep bringing up your social media following could you please expand"

"I have got one million on YouTube where I post anything about my life and what my subscribers want to see. As for Instagram I have five hundred thousand followers which is increasing very fast"

"Why do you think you are perfect for this position"

"I am very hardworking and am good with other people and I know how to communicate and how to use social media to my advantage. Like when it's best to post, which stuff is better to post about ,what hashtags and how to get your post riding with the algorithm and not getting swept up with it. I am very committed to what I do and when I say something I will always do it even if I struggle"

"Could I please know stuff about your personal life"

"Well my dad is a police officer and I live in Los Angeles but I would be more than happy to move here to New York. I don't have much of a personal life as I am always working may it be on the cases I get assigned or on my YouTube. But I always make at least an hour a day to talk to someone so I don't distance myself from people"

"Ok, ok. Now how do you see your future"

"Near the top of a work ladder, I could see myself in for example your position as head. But also with my social medias beside me also giving me an income, which would also be helping my work here as a social media manager"

"What about kids or marriage. Now you don't have to answer this this is hung onto the future question, as you can get to know a lot about a person on their views of kids and marriage"

"Well I definitely see myself with a partner, I'm not sure about marriage but with a child no doubt which is most likely adopted"

She asked Alyssa a few more questions before telling Alyssa she would be in touch. Alyssa smiled walking out of the interview, she thought she had done good. She walked to Nick and they both smiled of excitement. They both decided to get dinner together while waiting for the results that would be emailed to the person who got the job later that day as they need it filled as soon as possible. Alyssa and Nick then decided to walk through the city. While Alyssa was filming for a YouTube video, they both had lots of fun and when they were arriving at Nick's apartment Alyssa got the email that she had got the job. She squealed and danced around with excitement.

"I got the job, I got the job"

She squealed, her and Nick jumped around together. Then it hit Alyssa, she needed to tell her parents this, she needed to quit. She decided it needed to be done sooner than later so she texted her father:

'Hey, so I've gotten a job in New York to become a social media manager and I would be needed to start immediately. So dad I quit!'

She and Nick talked for a while about what was going to happen, Nick who had a spare room in his apartment offered Alyssa to stay and she agreed. They also talked about Alyssa stuff and they had come to the conclusion Alyssa would have it driven over. Alyssa was excited for what her life had turned out to be, just that morning she had been choosing between New York and her life in Los Angeles and it looks like New York had chosen itself.
