The search unfolds first in the Amazonian jungle between Peru and Brazil and in the forests of Peruvian highlands afterwards.
The expedition has attracted the attention of dangerous people led by a former Soviet intelligence officer who are looking for Paititi by its riches to put them at the service of a world power restoration project. 
Finally, a strange millennial group of alleged descendants of the Incas intends to expel all foreigners who pollute their sacred site which they seek to preserve for the day of the resurrection of the vast Empire.
All these elements interact in the novel, creating a climate of sustained suspense and anxiety until the final climax.

The Mythical City

He went on due to the general silence. 


“By now not we can only speculate about the purpose of this site. With regard to the caverns, our knowledge is still very precarious and we can hardly advance any hypothesis. The first task will be to map the tunnel system as widely as possible and then proceed to a systematic search for archaeological remains. For now, the findings are consistent with a medium-sized population, of course not residing in the caves, but surely in the surrounding areas. 


The meeting went on a while longer, with questions from the participants that did not throw additional light. Marcelo and Teresa took aside to have an intimate talk time. The man complained that they had not had chance to be together and in particular have not been able to enjoy a bit of privacy since they had met again. 


“Don't worry” replied the woman “ when this is over I will more than compensate you. The long wait will make it more delicious for both.”
