Chapter 15.1

The explorers were exultant. Although they had not yet had time to reflect on the findings, it was clear that the potential implications were promising for archaeologists. Enthusiastically they continued their advance down the corridor for a time; their eyes found every once in a while traits of human modifications to the tunnel made by nature, carved stairs, holes in the walls perhaps in order to place torches, stone seats for possible sentinels, enlarged side doors to allow the passage of delegations. The enthusiasm of the group was going in crescendo due to the evidence of continued use of the passage in the past. The expeditionaries moved in silence, each focused in his own thoughts and fantasies.

“Listen!” said Marcelo “the echo of our footsteps is stronger now. Do you notice it?”

“Perhaps the existence of a broader cavern” replied Octavio “or several caves connected, which might spread the reverberations.”
