Skill Cancellation

"Y-You killed him…!" Olaf broke the silence. Although he had done a few mischiefs and not a saint. He had actually never killed any players yet since the new set of rules in the game.

All he had done was mostly threatening and robbing equipment from players. Today was just the very day he decided and made up his mind to kill a player for a position in a well-known guild.

To obtain a position from that guild requires him to kill a player and a rare mini-boss item.

However, in the face of death, his will to kill had immediately fled out of his body. Regardless, he couldn't turn back now. Even though he was afraid, the player who had just died was his long-time friend not just in the game but also in the real world. His fear of dying was overwhelmed by his emotions.

"I-I will…kill you!"

Fin stared at Olaf who was doubtlessly furious with the usual stoic face and took a fighting stance. His silver spear shone in the bright night of the golden moon that was hanging in the pitch-black sky.

With glaring eyes, Olaf charged forward with a quick movement speed compared to the black-haired and red-haired men. His steel lance was radiating in a pale-red light.

In the next second, Olaf lunged his lance and zoomed forward in an amazing speed towards Fin, crossing the 8-yards distance almost instantly.

«Charge Stab» a low-level lance skill. A charging blow that covered a distance of ten yards in just 0.8 seconds.

As the creator himself, naturally, Fin knew almost all of the basic weapon skills. Therefore, when he saw Olaf's action. He already prepared himself on what to do.

Just before Olaf could pierce him, Fin simply leaned his body sideward smoothly evading the quick assault. As Olaf was about to pass him and proceed forward due to the effect of the skill.

Olaf abruptly stopped beside him.

Skill cancellation?! Fin thought.

«Skill Cancellation» was an innate talent. Generally, a normal player was not able to stop an activated skill in the middle of action. However, there were some players who could deactivate the skill amid the action.

In order to use the «Skill Cancellation» a player was required to instantly calm their mind to stop the signal processing of skill in action by Sensoria and the brain. It was a very difficult thing to do.

And according to Fin's investigation. Only four out of every ten players could execute «Skill Cancellation» and only 2 out of every ten players could use it easily as breathing.

Therefore, Fin was surprised, albeit slightly. It wasn't enough to make him worried. Before Olaf could perform another skill, Fin darted backwards, creating a distance between them.

However, the moment he retreated, he heard cry behind him. Glancing at his back, he saw Leyna who was only a few feet away from him was being attacked by the black-haired swordsman; he frowned.

This was the reason why he didn't bring Zyra's party with him. He was not yet strong enough to protect someone beside his well-being.

This small distraction did not slip out of Olaf's sight. Hence, taking this chance, he charged again towards Fin with big strides. His Avatars' height was also around 180 cm, so it only took almost an instant to reach Fin.

Olaf then raised his lance and slashed it downward like a sword towards Fin.

Upon seeing this, Fin immediately waved his spear upward, parrying the lance as it collided with a clanging sound of metals.

Fin's spear strongly recoiled upon the impact forcing him to retreat whilst Olaf's weapon was only pushed slightly. Olaf didn't stop and continued slashing at Fin. As moments slowly passed, their difference in strength became more apparent.

Olaf naturally discovered this as his confidence surged up.

"Haha. You're just a low-level bastard. Maybe it's just your luck that you manage to kill my friend…" Olaf paused. Then continued and made a sinister smile at the end, "Unfortunately, it seems your luck had run out. Now, go ahead and join my brother in the afterlife!"

Olaf then lifted his lance for a moment that immediately beamed in a sharp-red light and fiercely not just once but a complete 3-attacking combo.

Slash!

A long diagonally cut appeared across Fin's chest, cutting 30% of his hit points when he failed to defend Olaf's last strike. Regardless of that, Fin did not feel any pain and instead of withdrawing, he calmly but ruthlessly stabbed his spear towards his opponent's neck.

I must quickly end this… That girl won't last long…

Along with those thoughts, Olaf hastily retreated backwards making Fin's spear miss him by a hair's width.

Olaf grinned and was about to hurl his lance. Alas, his action of retreating gave Fin enough time to unleash another skill.

Fin positioned his left leg forward, lowering his body like a squat, he then pulled his spear to the back before strongly cleaving it horizontally to the left the moment it shone in a jade-green light.

Olaf frowned as he immediately attempted to parry the attack. However, the moment when their weapon was about to collide, the gleaming spear of Fin suddenly died down like a light on that had been turned off, and instead of a metal clanging collision, Fin's spear changed course and ferociously cut straight through Olaf's neck without any resistance.

Although they could not feel any pain as this world was still a virtual world, their Avatars' bodies were soft as butter since it was only a mass of digital data, but the damage would be still symmetrical according to the game system.

"You can also use Skill Cancellation?!" Olaf cried in surprise after he darted backwards and glanced at his remaining hit points. Fin took almost 50% of his entire HP. In a wiser perspective he was 50 percent closer to the brink of death.

It was certainly a critical hit!

How could his damage be so high?! Olaf thought in a deep shock.

"You're not the only player who can use Skill Cancellation…" Fin replied while emotionlessly staring at Olaf before he suddenly took a stance as though he was about to throw his spear.

Seeing this, Olaf instantly recognized Fin's action. It was a primary skill often used by spear users simply called «Spear Throw»

Therefore, Olaf once again took a few steps backwards and prepared to counter-attack. The moment Fin's spear glows with pale-yellow light, Olaf lowered his body.

However, when Fin was about to throw his spear, he cancelled the «Spear Throw» and chanted the dragon's language, "Deuc. Mar. Ami. Ngin. Ha… Spiral Gales!"

Upon seeing the spear-like winds forming before Fin, Olaf deeply frowned as he positioned his lance in his front. He knew it was difficult to dodge a magic skill attack, thus, he decided to defend it head on.

However, to Olaf's surprise, Fin shouted, "You girl, hurry and duck!"

Leyna, who was struggling to fend the black-haired man heard a sudden cry from Fin.

"What?!" She exclaimed in puzzlement before looking over her shoulder, her eyes widened in astonishment causing her to duck in panic.

The «Spiral Gales» promptly passed over her head and rapidly flew towards the locked-target; the black-haired man.

Three simultaneous spiral gales cut straight towards the dumbfounded black-haired man.

Bang!

Explosions occurred, causing a huge dust smoke upon impact which hid the entire body of black-haired man. His condition was unknown.

"Jace!!!" Olaf bellowed.
