POLICE CAREERS DAY

It was a rare event in the entirety of Bai Yutong's year old police career, that his lazy older brother and his boss actually bothered to call an employee meeting, then he never showed up because something more important came up. This Monday, Jintang really did drag his ass to the small conference room, just as the very frisky female secretary Li was getting bored and offering people $10 blowjobs, with an important order from the head of the Florida police department and no apparent shame, since he was still in last night's uniform with creases throughout his shirt. "We need new recruits in Tennessee and Panama city, or the other districts will outnumber us even more than they do, and before I start bringing people, I want to try a more legitimate method. Ever since officer Bai unfortunately lost his shirt that time old ma's Persian climbed a really spiky tree, young ladies have been offering to take up positions as long as they get to see Yutong half clothed, and while I realise that isn't good ethics, we can use his great attraction to get genuine attention.", he announced loudly.

Zhao Yunlan, who was well aware of his boss's shifty business tactics, was not that surprised, but a bit offended that no one was applying to work with him. "Is that like the university days then boss? Where each university advertises to prospective students and tries to convince people to join, but it's the pd advertising police jobs.", he asked, confused and still hurt by the lack of attention his beard got. Beards were supposed to be sexy, yet he was still tragically single!

Jintang sipped his mocha and thought about this idea, still trying to remember his name and shopping list for after work, "Exactly that! Well done officer Zhao, we should call it the first annual police careers day, and lure victims into the mountains of paperwork with MMA drills by officer Bai. Secretary Li, find one of the old plastering tales in storage and put a nice tablecloth over it, then leave the rest to unhealthy sexual attraction and patriotic spirit. I'll be in my office working if anyone needs me, as usual."

Such antics were not unheard of in the Tennessee Pd, but cheating at an official order was borderline suicide. Bai Yutong didn't have a choice in the matter regardless of what his family relation was, because in the workplace, he and his older brother were strictly colleagues, and colleagues clearly sold each other out for the sake of good reports. Yunlan would help him ward off anything unsavoury, or was kind of his job to fair, so he took his fate gracefully, glad he resembled his peloton and kept his full body exercise routine up after eating that indulgent dinner of steak and lobster with Ma Bai. Maybe he should have stayed in the army, where people didn't have time to needlessly stare at his half naked body…

It was hard being chief Bai, and as if trying to get any publicity in this sleepy city wasn't bad enough, some asshole bumped into him and make him spill his precious mocha, which he had to replace before coming to work and that made him late to the weekly meeting he needed to attend. He was very unhappy to know that the coffee spilling asshole worked at the police station too, in the morgue as a police coroner. He was sending a bill for his spilt coffee down when secretary Li finished whatever we taking so long in the legal department, but he had work to do until he could be concerned with the scum of the world, like gathering a large amount of media coverage for the first annual police careers fair in the span of the rest of the day.

At the university, Shen Wei and his neary doctorate TA Zhan Yao had a serious concern for the female population of the university, who were rushing about bright pink, squealing indecent things about an officer Bai and sharing lots of photos on the forum. He didn't even want to know what his peloton neighbor did to get the attention of the women that were usually so serious and studious, knowing that if Zhao Yunlan was involved at all he would know when Shen Ge insisted on going to it. "Ge, do you have plans for tomorrow by any chance? The ladies are mentioning my neighbor a lot, and I remember that Yunlan works with Bai Yutong.", he asked casually, sliding his pile of marking on the table without disturbing the top papers. Shen Wei smiled brightly at this, and Zhan Yao could tell he'd hit the jackpot as far as the gossip was concerned.

When Lan Er texted the mild professor Shen about the event outside the police station, the man nearly collapsed in a pile of parental proudness. He was actually the one who posted an official notice on the university forum, with the date, time and brief breadcrumb that officer Bai was in charge of drill demonstration, simply because that's what he was told. If Zhao Yunlan had informed him the whole campus was that wild for the newest community officer, he would never have posted that bit, but now there was a mass field trip to the Pd organised among the students, and theoretically, every person helped support the sorry pair, so he decided to go too! His PA would probably tag along for the laughs, if the first police day was as badly planned as it sounded.

"Didi, the ladies are all excited to see officer Bai perform drills. That scoundrel caused a lot of commotion recently, when his t-shirt ripped on a tree old ma's cat managed to scale but couldn't get down. We should go along and see what happens, it might be good material for this Friday's jokes.", he replied carefully. Zhan Yao still kind of hated Bai Yutong for absolutely destroying his sleep during his critical thesis defense, hence the reason why he did his best not to sound too happy, even if Shen Wei was more happy to see Yunlan than his colleague.

Bai Jintang felt like he had done a hard day's work when 5pm came around and it was time for all non emergency workers to go home, if four loafing about on social media to supposedly advertise the next days event and using that as an excuse for checking out random gym accounts for the hot pictures, and the essential pile of reports needing signing counted as super hard work. Also, there was a five dollar bill on his desk waiting to be spent on wontons, that appeared with his secretary. The debt had been paid back in full, upon request and promptly, but a sharp man like Jintang never forgot anything, especially grudges.

The next day, everyone was gathered at the police station prior to the arranged time to get free peeks at the town's favourite policeman and battle as to who took the best photos. Most of the female university students had managed to discreetly store professional cameras with frighteningly long lens attachments on their person for glad the day, and neither Shen Wei or Zhan Yao knew how, since they had basically seen the same ladies at work, minus the bizarrely long lense cameras and manic grins. This was a real, very serious competition apparently, judging by the money the cameras must have cost to buy, then the care needed to carry one one around without breaking it would have been worrying, yet everyone was politely taking their places in front of what looked like a wallpaper table covered by a cheap tablecloth. "My neighbor has a fanclub, great! The self conceited bastard was awful enough without more to inflate his continental ego, considering how much force it took to resolve our last issue. Shen ge, if officer Zhao wasn't his co worker, I doubt you would bother coming here today.", Zhan Yao remarked bitterly. He was clearly more interested than he was pretending to be, otherwise his Didi would have gone to Zhao Zhen for his break and left the town square immediately.

Personally, the only thing keeping Shen Wei there was Yunlan and the fear that the university could be negatively implicated by his students if any of the ladies got too happy about seeing officer Bai exercising, but like a good friend, or wife, as Boya had cruelty teased him the time they ended up fighting with baiju. Some things they did were extremely domestic to be fair, since professor Shen didn't know anyone else in the building or town that exclusively had home cooked dinners together, was willing to be the other neighbors housekeeper, or took special care of each other during sickness. However, what Zhao Yunlan and he had was different, they were just very, very good friends that spent a lot of time together for simple companionship. Bai Jintang

The first annual police careers fair was off to what seemed like a great start, if a paparazzi like squad of schoolgirls and the odd male was the crowd chief Jintang was aiming for, and the crowd was supposed to disperse the minute Bai Yutong put his uniform on and came back out fully clothed. The two police officers were just despairing over the future of the local Pd, and wanted at least three stiff drinks when they went home to erase the terrible attempt at recruitment, when the angelic professor Shen appeared with two cold brews and a large bento box. "Yunlan, you can share this with Bai xiansheng. At least you had the opportunity to show people how great it is working in the police force, and someone might find it an interesting career, or take the hot officer bait. The fangirls had been a real downer, leaving straight away and not registering any interest in the career, but to Zhao Yunlan, all he needed to brighten his day was Shen Wei's loving smile and some good food.

Zhao Yao was still standing there glaring at Bai Yutong, and the police officer was starting to feel uneasy. Those pretty, honey brown irises burned through his being, and make his heart go doki doki, which definitely shouldn't happen when he was being faced by the same volatile neighbor who tried to kill him for his admittedly petty peloton workouts, but to his horror, he couldn't stop it happening. In the Florida sunlight, the blonde streaks in the TA's hazelnut sumptuous brown locks looked even more beautiful, just like he thought the first day he met Zhan Yao. He had to snap himself out of the embarrassing feelings he was having, and the coffee provided the perfect opportunity. Yunlan sighed, only once Shen Wei and his friend were out of sight though, watching Yutong chug the precious cold brew as is it was water for no explainable reason other than he was trying to distract himself with the caffeine rush, because he was too scared to make amends with his angry neighbor and start the relationship he was dying to establish. "Now TA Zhan will think you're an even worse person, not thanking Shen Wei for buying us the drinks before you chug yours, stupid mouse! If you want to screw his prim and proper navy chinos off him, you need to establish a half tolerable friendship, like me and Shen ge did.", he teased.

Mama Bai's military prodigy had been called plenty of names growing up in the predominantly American Texas suburbs, but since he first beat big Billy and got his black belt in karate, who happened to be the representative asshole of the whole suburb, no one dared to pick on little Bai Yutong, even if he was short. Getting called a mouse, was therefore a terrible insult to his pride! "I can lift more than my father, mother and brother combined, have enough stamina to actually help people and manage my own household. I'm a lion, not a mouse Zhao Ge!", he exclaimed proudly. Yunlan felt the burn from the comments on his lack of ability to manage how he lived and how good a policeman he was, but growing up with his Pa in their high class Manhattan beach home had made him immune to criticism, because a low aspiring lout like Yunlan experienced loving Asian criticism on a daily basis until he moved to Tennessee. So he let the harsh words go, like water down a pig's back or whatever people said in English, and dug into the bento his lovely neighbor had made before his fellow officer got to the egg rolls and chicken skewers.

Gongsun had been having an extremely good day, until that horny secretary came down and interrupted his best autopsy yet, a car crash cadaver with the lamp post still through the chest wall. He had been wrist deep in the poor man's mashed internal organs, supposedly trying to distinguish what had been part of what organ in the bloody milkshake and weigh them accordingly, and he got a bill for something he didn't particularly remember or care about, since the person only asked for a few dollars and he had work to do. So he told the morgue busybody to get the $5 change in his pocket, from buying his breakfast that morning, and give it to the secretary to get the annoyance out. However, when he had tidied his body up for the funeral home and signed the paperwork, he took a proper look at the note sent down and recognised the name, Bai Jintang, chief of Tennessee Pd and the same bratty man he bumped into at the magical magician coffee shop.

He was never going to forget this, as long as he got to diagnose and fix up unfortunate cadavers, like lamp post guy, with the remainder of the metal like and his gut milkshake to make presentable, how he had been unlawfully robbed in a police station of all places! Justice would be his responsibility now had obediently settled the matter without knowing, and revenge would be sweet, sweeter than getting the best case at work, but a cup of bubble tea would suffice to temporarily satisfy his murderous urges, as he stabbed the bubbles viciously.

Yes, Gongsun had passed the psych test and no, he was not a sociopath or a psychopath.
