Keevah
Things have been rough ever since I started studying at Avarial a few months ago. Every day was hectic that I can’t even walk properly. Strange eyes have been following me since that day and I knew it wasn’t because I won that competition.
Even when I was walking with my friends during lunch, during training, and during going home. I knew I wasn’t a fan of grabbing so much attention but I sometimes wished that everyone’s eyes were on me to protect me. No one in my friends, family, and especially schoolmates know what’s going on. And I don’t plan on saying them myself too.
“Keevah, don’t ever think of mentioning your father’s name.” That’s what my mother used to tell me every time I cry when I was a little kid. The reason was unknown until now and knowing my mother’s personality, she would try to harm herself again If I did.
I don’t want that to happen again too so I never tried mentioning my father’s name every time I am with my mother. It was always like I never had a father to her and I felt so hurt about that. My father was a wonderful man in my dreams and even in my memory so I can’t help but feel a bit of guilt on trying to forget about him.
I started learning about Avarial when I was in middle school. One of my rich classmates mentioned the school and even bragged about going there herself. I, who was curious about everything approached her and asked what’s that school. That was when my memory of my father came back little by little.
“Hey, what about this school Avarial?” I asked, leaning carefully toward her as if she would run away if I didn’t lean on her.
Kye, who’s playing a board game with his friend came and stand behind me, eyes sparkling. The girl looked at us and shook her head vigorously. Feeling heartbeat a second, I looked at Kye who is looking at me as well, confused.
His wavy black hair that could compare to the night sky was fluttering as he shook his head too, not wanting the conversation to be more confusing. The girl’s eyes landed on him as if she was mesmerized by his peculiar looks. Kye Heartlock was a handsome man with pale skin white as snow and beautiful as summer.
“Yeah. What about that Avarial you’re talking about?” His black sparkling eyes landed on me as he looked again at the girl. I knew that he’s helping me again as he knew that I’m not friendly and approachable because of my fierce feature.
“Don’t you know? Avarial High is where the best students among the best are studying. I heard that there’s a secret circulating inside the school about that baseball player who died 10 years ago.” I could feel my heart-shattering piece by piece but I don’t know why. At that time, I wasn’t even aware of my own father’s rumor and cause of death.
A bitter smile escaped my mouth. The moment she mentioned a baseball player, I don’t know why but I felt something piercing my heart. That was when I started my investigation about the rumors about Avarial for a long time. I even thought of going to the police but they just send me home saying that a minor cannot be asked about that case as it wasn’t disclosed to anyone yet. And with that, my hope of finding the truth was crushed.
“Keevah, you want to study at Avarial, right?” That same girl asked as if knowing what I am doing.
I carefully looked at her and nodded. She smiles at me and handed me a paper with a card on it. It was that competition. A competition that helped me a lot in my investigation. At first, my only goal was to find the truth and not get distracted as I do my job of excelling in everything I know.
But when I heard a desperate sobbing from somewhere, I can’t help but feel guilty. It was as if I am using them to acquire this information and now, they’re crying because of my stubbornness.
I want to hug them but I can’t seem to move my muscles. Even my eyes are heavy that I can’t even lift them. It’s my first time being loved like this that I can’t think of anything to say when I open my eyes later. Their soft sobbing was killing my ears. I don’t know why but I can hear them saying my name but I just can’t feel anything besides the pain in my heart and head.
“Haniel Forshay, a 37-year-old professor was found dead inside the abandoned facility of the famous school Avarial High at 7:07 pm today.” A silence occurred and I know why. Silent pain was the worst thing, I knew that well.
Haniel Forshay was a history professor at Avarial High and was famous to the students because of his outstanding position and knowledge. He’s kind and helpful and I can’t think of anything that can be the cause of his murder tonight.
I often see him reading a think historical book every lunch and one time I think I saw him arguing with Mrs. Jones. I don’t know why but I think it’s a lover’s quarrel? There’s a rumor about the two datings secretly and I think it’s because of that.
“As expected, He’ll die.” I heard someone murmur as I slowly regained my consciousness and there, I saw a beautiful young woman sitting beside my bed. Her eyes were fixated on the television but soon looked at me when she noticed how I’m struggling to get up on my own.
“Sui. .” I unconsciously muttered as I stared at her big black pupils. It was clear that no one would think that she’s joking.
All eyes were on us as I tried to get up and step back. Sui’s words were shocking that I can’t stay near her but she suddenly grabbed my hand and looked straight into my eyes. Just like I said, it was clear that I cannot see a hint of guilt or anything in it.
“Sui. Watch your words, it’s not funny.” Cleo who is sitting next to her calmly said as her eyebrows arch. Sui on the other hand just shrug her shoulder and said: “I’m just saying the possibility of his actions, okay?”
I know that she’s straightforward but I didn’t think that she would say something like this. Even Prince who knew every gossip inside the Avarial looked shocked at her words. “But she may be right though.” Creed who’s drinking his wine said as he tried to remember every rumor he heard.
“There’s a rumor that he’s secretly dating Mrs. Jones. What if her husband caught them and he killed him inside that building to create unpleasant rumors about his wife’s school?”
