Thorolund II

[Akira, we have a problem.]

While I still played attention at my surroundings, inside my mind I inquired what Rose meant. Only for a certain quest to take my interest and cause me in equal part annoyance and trepidation.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Shouldn't the mission be over its main objective is completed?', I was trying to make sense of the peculiarity. While it is common for a Quest to not follow a linear path, a fact that coheres with Yggdrasil as many quests had many hidden objectives or different ways to be achieved, the moment the main objective was concluded is when the mission normally ends.

[Not necessarily. As long as you can contribute or do anything to affect an objective of the quest, Main or Bonus ones, the mission is considered ongoing. However, were you to leave or decide to abandon it at any point, for any objective reached, you will get the appropriate reward. The mission doesn't contain a failure option neither punishment, because this is your life. You are constantly in danger. Loss of concentration can lead to your demise... I am supposed-], feeling my irritation she corrected herself, [Sorry, sorry~. The system aim is to help you in this life. Providing punishments for failure, might give you incentive to work harder, but at the same time is counter-productive to the previous point.]

'I see...', useful to know I suppose, but before any other thought, Rose cut my reverie.

[The quest will only give you adequate quest to objectives you have decided to work towards. That isn't important now! Warn your comrades and prepare yourself. The worst might happen so hurry up. The mini-map doesn't show any unknown enemy close you, but it is heavily relied on your current range.], she finished, a sense of urgency apparent in her voice.

There is no doubt that a "friendly" did us a favor by killing our target. Logically, it indicates towards an unknown enemy slaying the Ogre, something I would like to avoid engaging. The implications about their identity are... troublesome.

Nevertheless, still within expectations that something did go awry.

[… Since we are going to initiate the plan, you need to be even more careful!]

Nodding my head, giving her my compliance mentally, I suddenly felt more... Anxious.

Nothing extreme to freeze my body in indecision. An old friend always present. Its arrival detonates the whirlpool of ideas on prospects a component bears for the future.

The myriad ideas danced in my imagination. They started becoming far graver and more tangible. Unconsciously I conceptualize any variable leading to an unconventional eventuality...

Exhaling slightly, I steel my nerves. Years of growth adequate enough to tackle this peculiarity of mine to benumb myself in overthinking the most bland of information.

My focus is renewed. This is no time to contemplate on what could happen. The present takes precedence and needs attention my regular bouts of overvaluing any conceivable consequence a menial element can introduce.

"We need to warn the others and get out of here!", wasting no time, I address Kiyoko.

"A-Akira? "she was surprised, yet there was no time waste for explaining her obvious question.

A quick check of the battlefield immediately showed how Balrom and Zoltan were finishing two Hobgoblins off while Zahei was watching the entrance of the Colosseum. I immediately grabbed Kiyoko's hand-as she let an honestly adorable surprised sound-and made a beeline towards the leader.

"What are y-"

"No time. We need to get out of here. Something very bad is going to happen. I cannot properly explain, but we must at least take cover!", while I tried to appear flustered, not much effort was needed.

[Gamer's Mind] can be turned off or on. Right now, I asked Rose to flip the switch, in order for my genuine emotions in the form of trepidation and caution to show themselves. Though she equipped it as soon as Zahei asked with a voice void of emotions. An impressive feat worthy for askance whether or not he has a similar skill- but now isn't the Time!

"Calm down. I understand if you feel uneasy-", not even letting him finish any attempts of consolation he may make, the two Demi-Humans finished the last of the opposition and Tuka made her way towards us, I slightly raised my voice to properly convey the need of quick actions and -hopefully-make my point clear.

"I am calm enough right now. Something feels off and while I agreed to follow your plans, I also excluded my participation to a suicidal mission. I implore all of us to leave. But seeing as you wouldn't agree to something like that at least, let's make some distance between us and this place!", I practically shouted towards the end. A weird red dot appeared on the edge of my mini-map indicating the arrival of an enemy near the center of the old Arena

'Thank you, Rose!', my gratitude for her assistance was expressed no matter the circumstances!

They were bewildered... Twain between the severity of my words and how atypical my reactions were.

It was compelling to observe. Would they take heed of my warning? An unknown's rambling based on questionable parameters from their own view. Should I have passed [Map] as intuition? Admittedly I do not know them very well so they might not consider-

"Okay.", nodded his head Zahei," We will take cover at the nearest building. Let's go.", addressing the whole team, he nonchalantly started walking towards it, followed by Zoltan as he was scratching his beard.

On the other hand, I froze, only for clarity to be restored to my mind a moment later.

'How can they be so trusting?', I unconsciously asked. The rest followed, after me freeing Kiyoko's hand, an action which earned a bashful look from her and -dare I say- an annoyed frown from Tuka when she noticed us holding hands. Most likely on my declaration in lieu of some limited physical contact.

Balrom's twitching smile betrayed his amusement over the scene.

[It is unnatural, but a welcome change, wouldn't you say?]

'While I am thankfully for them giving their trust, I haven't really done something to earn it. Appearing as a pleasant youth, showing them a "secret of mine"... those don't equate to trust.'

As we scaled the destroyed building and perched on the openings to get a viewpoint of the Colosseum, the red dot was approaching the entrance of said building. I was currently unable to hide my modest confusion by how easy this test was...

Normally I wouldn't need to warn them. I could literally walk towards the unknown enemy and use them as scapegoats in order to escape or better start my plan.

.

.

The chance of the latter happening is far more likely, since they haven't exactly done something to earn my ire or such treatment.

It could be considered a selfish plan, but it was also clever nonetheless. Like my planned "date" with Tuka. I would say that I wasn't interested in her per se, but it was more curiosity by interacting with a "familiar" character and observing the differences she has with her "fictious "counterpart. Her race as an "Elf" with their culture, a fantastical species that were only met in dreams of Yggdrasil was a reason of fascination.

However, most was directed to information gathering. Careful probing would pave a nicely tidy path for any slips to be catalogues. A newcomer would be introduced to places of interest.

Not that the "date" would be extremely one-sided interaction of selfish profit. Sufficient effort to make a nice experience out of her swift and dubious compliance to my offer for an outing.

'Personal interest? An attempt to keep close a potential member for her Familia? A factor that escapes my grasp?'

Endless partibilities. It is highly unlike either my "charm" paid off or Tuka is so shallow, allocating her schedule for a "pretty" face.

Yet, more reasons to initiate plan NRFPH-or better-Paladin.

My amusement for remembering one of my friends was drowned due to the severity presented by the new player.

Moreover, they were blue dots in my [Map]. A point hinting potential allies. Of course, the conjecture is taken along a grain of salt. I do not really know all about the works said function of the System. Concerns regarding how exactly the classification works do exist, but I digress. Countermeasures were ready in case my assumption is wrong.

Plus... they were pleasant people. From initial assumptions and presentation an easy conclusion was attained. The whole

""original"" idea about a story of a mysterious youth with a spotty background and much potential, creates the image of someone exploitable. Hunting monsters in the Western Forest without any affiliation, being discovered by their scout, showing a useful "secret" and even fighting prowess!

Not once did they give an inkling, they tried to exploit me.

Throwing some odd statement or providing certain boons by taking me under their wing. They could present their Familia in a better light, play off the experienced adventures card, a mention on how much could achieve with proper guidance...

I mean a country-boy, attempting the life of an adventurer would be an easy target. Only Balrom made me an offer to join their Familia, which is typical and expected. Sure, questions about myself were asked, yet that too is a sign of interest rather malicious intent. How come they provide me with such trust when I give a "baseless" feeling? They follow through with my spotty suggestion? Shouldn't they be more cautious of me?!

[While I understand your skepticism, do not forget that most people would be inclined to believe in a pretty "image". Through the use of [Gamer's Mind] you are be free of anything that tries to influence your mind and burdens your attention. It keeps your emotions in check, providing ample opportunities for logical thinking.], Rose started with seriousness and a hint of amusement, [However, no matter how you spin it, that was the real you. Not a mechanical doll or a façade devoid of emotions. It doesn't change your character, some misinformation added. It allows you to show it more like in Yggdrasil.]

I absentmindedly understood her point...

Back in Earth, being a "troll" and making light fun of your surroundings, isn't considered "proper "standing. Specially for an adult such childish behaviour is unbecoming. No matter how good your intentions were and how limited the fun would be, society expects all adults to be serious, hardworking with a certain criterion for their character.

Obviously, people with connections notwithstanding. They could afford more laziness and crass mannerisms.

While that isn't true in all instances, when the World has experienced a third World War, resulting in pollution that renders special equipment Absolute in order to "breathe" outside...

Education having regressed, rendering anything above middle school level a privilege of the rich, thus alternating stable jobs extremely hard to find...

Mega-Corporations with absolute control over economy, the only concern themselves and not their employees, few privileged instead the majority in need. Enabling harder working conditions! After all, they could simply hire you for some time, only to let you go after finding another candidate to take your place with a lower wager.

By the time Mom died... I had taken many odd jobs in order to provide for my little brother. There I experienced the ruthlessness of people for the first time.

No matter hard I worked, no matter how nice I appeared, most of the time I would be fired, since I was a "brat" that didn't work hard enough. Even if my "colleagues" put all their work on my shoulders, the boss stole money from the registry and all other acts that were "appropriate", I never complained. Pointing things out only got me fired faster since my understanding how the world "worked" lacked...

I had the means to help my brother!

I had to keep to keep the morals my mother imparted at no cost! Lest I sully her memory...

No matter how many nights I remained sleepless, the times I fainted from overworking myself with different jobs on the week or my classes, an attempt to cram to get a decree at programming in the latter years, or the circumstances...

I had adopted a mask always appearing happy and serious. I was a "genius", a title of constant frustration and fury. My efforts diminished or conveniently forgotten in lieu of my unfair "advantage". If others couldn't do it, I "had" to have an inequitable concise at my disposal! To be slightly better at something, in this case my apparent brilliance.

Ridiculous...

Stupid...

Above all infuriating.

When my Brother become an adult, I had already finished my studies and was awarded a decree in programming. An element which allowed a greater income from my new job.

Yet I always wore the mask. A kind, clever and serious young man. An ideal of society rather my social identity.

Rarely did I show my real self or better my complete self. Yet Yggdrasil allowed me to be free.

Do I want to troll someone? To argue against something Irregardless of social standing or importance? Becoming a pest to annoy others so they could unwind through a baseless argument?

I could and I did.

I was myself. I cracked my terrible jokes. I talked about my interest and so many more! A mention of fiction becoming a topic of discussion! It was liberating!

It was a... strange, but welcome, relief. "Acting" is never easy, much less appearing as amicable and "logical", when the dumba**, that is your boss has you work overtime without pay!

And that was the tip of the iceberg...

For people-strangers to trust me...because I showed an approximation of myself, is really odd...

'...No time to think about it', I mused as I heard an approval from Rose. Our attention was taken by the appearance of a silhouette in the entrance of the Colosseum.

Only to take my eyes from the, displeasingly familiar figure, as Tuka grabbed my shoulder.

Her gaze filled by terror.

=-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'W-wh-what is that?!!'

Yet no voice came to accompany the question.

She was too scared... Afraid a sound would attract the abomination.

In Eden, Mana exists everywhere. It allows plants to grow more quickly, the creation of mineral, nourishing all lifeforms... are only few of the numerous benefits this founding and mystical energy provides. However, most effects happen after years of "exposure".

Each organism has a capacity to intake a certain amount, which cannot be exceeded conventionally. Those limits are named Internal Mana, Mana Reserves, Mana Veins or even Ioth Hesjing in ancient times, a language lost in the ravages of development. Generally, they represent the capacity of a creature to create their very own essence inside themselves for the utilization of spells or abilities that require Mana.

External Mana or the Mana of the World bestows all its very power for the advancement of everything. Essentially the betterment of all lifeforms! A genus alone feasible to weave for an induvial with the highest investment and insight with Magics. Albeit, any amount will be used to create barriers and grand rituals.

Naturally, an area can possess an artifact which would allow the Mana of the World to work towards a specific goal. The brightest example is none other than the Divine tree. An Artifact of near religious worship through Elven kind.

It benefits vegetation-in which magical flora is included- to grow, nourishes those with close ties to Nature, mainly its guardians and Council.

Her people.

Moreover, one's presence can affect the surrounding Mana. Everyone has an Aura enveloping their Physical Vessel as a portrayal of its linkage with the "higher" Metaphysical Essence. A phenomenon easily noticed should a person not exhibit sufficient control over their Internal Mana ere amid the manifestation of a Spell.

That residue of an induvial existence is called Aura. For starters, it can be considered an identity of the type of magic one utilizes. Someone who uses "evil" magic has a darker aura, while someone who uses "good" magic has a brighter aura. Of course, that doesn't necessarily point to a character a person might have. A good person is more than capable of spells dealing with the element of Darkness, thus having a "darker" aura. On the other hand, an evil person can use Lighting magic can have a "yellow" aura.

However, the "feel" or better nature of Internal Mana expressed unto External Mana transmits a degree of oneness. In the last example, the Good person with "Evil" Magic, would have a dark aura that is "pleasant" to experience, while the latter-an Evil Person with "Good" Magic- would have a dull yellow aura that is unpleasant.

Gods themselves have a form of aura depending on the nature of their Divinity. After all, a Divinity is an exemplifying factor of their existence. Additionally, a domain of War is striking dissimilar as one that deals with Harvest!

Suffice to say, most mages and adventurers can feel the Mana a person, who deliberately colours the surroundings-Aura-, since it can be used to pressure weaker opponents.

But to understand the "colour", a connotational ingredient of any being. One has to be properly experienced or trained with Magic. Although, there are abilities that could offer similar effect. Those being commonly inherit ones. Expressly unique to one's race and even ancestry. They are mainly possessed by races that have an affinity with magic, namely Elves.

Typically, each Elf has to cultivate and train that ability to create a tantalizing capacity to gather information. On the other end, someone can indeed surpass an Elf that hasn't trained in it.

High Elves, an "evolution" of Elves, owns a better or more developed version of the ability.

Tuka Fieldro Abalieu is a member of the Abalieu family of High Elves. A noble house, which despite its decline after her grandfather-the then Head- decided to migrate from the Elven Capital, was unable to reach its previous heights. The Family fell from a one of the strongest Houses. The reason they still retain traces of respect amongst their piers is their "pure" bloodline.

Her uncle is the only inheritor of the Noble title that has suffered a significant decline. One of the few Grand Dukes to a mere Count. Only few members of her family and some retainers did in fact follow her Grandfather and migrated outside their ancestral home, which led to her Uncle cutting any ties they had with the House, by the insistence of other Grand Dukes who her Pa-Father calls old cronies.

But she didn't put much instance in past events. What would change if she did?

Her family loved her and... she was happy with them. No matter their argument aimed at her future!

Her calling was the present. Specifically, a rather dangerous occupation. Tuka understood her parent's plight and instance to become the next head. Yet the dangers her dream "job" didn't deter her a single step.

The greatest inspiration- one she will never reveal! - was her distant cousin, who became a well-known to the whole World!

One of the reasons the party trusted Akira except his amiable character and behaviour, was closely tied with her findings.

Bright, golden Aura. An invigorating light that shines brighter that any star. Like the sun itself descended in the form of a young man.

At first, she didn't notice, the distance too far for her to pick up anything unusual. It all changed the moment they all approached the camp.

She was able to feel a Star Shining.

Thus, the image of Akira improved-unknowingly to the person himself. She deliberately waited for some privacy by the suggestion of investigating the cave to announce her findings. A person with a bright, welcoming and immense Aura, someone that "allowed" them to see his identity.

Regardless any effort to fake Aura, it would only lead towards a minimization of its magnitude than a convenient revision over its nature.

An important distinction the group was unaware is, Akira tried to channelled the power of his skill, [Helliel The First Star]. An unsuccessful attempt in lieu of the prize such action would have brought. Nevertheless, for a brief interval the titanic power abaft his ability manifested. The Conceptual Weight run through his veins. One equated firmly with the History behind Luci*fer the Morning Star, Protector of the Upper planes. His time as an Angel. "Infallible" Beings made from light itself!

At least that was the description of Yggdrasil for the Angel race, a player could select. However, that was the "History" of Yggdrasil Angels.

Moreover, Akira became a level 65 Magic Swordsman. An angel of the highest order, yet not the most powerful. Yrt, he "was" Lucifer and when he was modifying his story-a function available to any Player for both their character and Npcs they might have created- he wrote;

Luci*fer was One of the very first primal beasts. He had been known as the supreme Primarch who commands all other Archangels, the main protector of Heaven.

That simple sentence in game added quality to his Avatar. An origin which directly enriched his character!

In reality, it became a main part of the History of the character known as Luci*fer. He acquired a special place in the narrative of the world of Yggdrasil and while not the strongest angel by far, he became one of the "purer" ones. After all he "was" the leader of beings that are created by light. A leader whose authority was unquestioned for those archangels and primal beasts except bosses such as "The Ten Archangels of Sephira" and other Players.

An important and beloved figure to Heaven and its main protector. Elevating his character, adding strength to the very essence of his Avatar.

Similarly, to the Concept of Legend in Type-Moon World, where one's Mystery or History allows them to possess certain abilities that they might not have possessed in their life. An example would be Alexander's or better, Iskandar's abilities [Divinity] and [Lighting Conqueror], from the anecdote the he was the son of Zeus.

It's important to note that this was created out of the assumption of the masses Irregardless of the truth.

However, in Yggdrasil a character's bio is the True History, they possess which is both recognized by other Beings (Players, Npcs) and the World itself (Yggdrasil), thus not allowing it to be affected and remain unchanged.

Of course, words allow don't provide all the Strength. An appropriate Foundation is essential. For starters, all Quests and Missions one completed.

Hence, with the appearance of a Root established, Akira's skills match the monstrous Ex Rank. A Truth of his "experience" as an Angel, gaining the War Strategist Job Class, completing Quests- which in turn validate his lore.

Of course, in game the History a player could write, was only for aesthetic purposes. A tool indented for people interested in roleplay. It didn't actually provide any legitimate abilities in Yggdrasil.

Alas, Reality is vastly divergent with "Fantasy". So, Luci*fer or Lucifer, as his new name, is the leader of the archangels and primal beasts. Though since that is considered the Truth, it has some interesting consequences!

|But that's a discussion of another time|

As such, even though Akira didn't change his race, his failed attempt allowed the Aura of Archangel Luci*fer to seep through his form.

That wasn't detected since he himself didn't notice a change to his status and when he cast the 3rd tier spell [ Mana Essence] and [Life Essence]. They only showcased his Mana Pool and Hit Points respectively. Not the qualitative change his presence had.

Besides, the effect was temporary. The next day- more specifically during their sleep- his Aura adjusted, allowing normality to return.

Additionally, Akira hid his Mana. Although there were many attempts to learn the technicalities...he was unable to utilize [False Data: Mana], a high-end tier 4 spell during his experiments so to familiarize with Spells and Mana.

While not easy, with the help of Rose, was able to manipulate the mana in a minimal level, allowing him to hide his Mana Pool and experiment further with spells. Nothing of supreme importance or great development, but welcome nonetheless. His Mana Capacity could be scried through abilities and spells, but at least my body isn't a beacon of energy!

She was pretty annoyed that Akira suddenly held hands with Kiyoko. She didn't want to believe Zoltan words about Akira being voracious and was "rightfully" annoyed with him.

Disregarding the fact Akira did nothing wrong and the fact she would like to held hands with him. A baffling thought for her past self but a weirdly acceptable thought currently...

Tuka is not delusional about grand "adventurers", her occupation would provide-Zahei provided quite the reality check with his hunts for Goblins. She still held the belief of charming "Heroic" figures, talented paragons of justice. Something that can describe Akira with his humble attitude, ability in combat and Aura.

'Plus, the fact he was quite cute was a boon.', a treacherous part of her mind supplemented.

She is quite young after all! Only 50 years old, so she can be a little immature!

But such ideas were washed away when she heard the legitimate concern in Akira's voice.

Heeding his warning the group climbed a nearby building to get a better view of the problem.

Nothing could prepare her though....

Even before the creature appeared she felt it.

Unalike Akira it was proudly present at an alarming rate...

The mana was remodelled... tainted. It felt so damn wrong! Like a dangerous disease was transferred over the atmosphere, turning air stale, a fatal illness bearing a promise of... anguish.

From her perspective, she could perceive how this "darkness" was spreading more and more until she saw the creature...

A humanoid appeared that did nothing to lessen her dread, silver armour covering almost all of its body, a blue cape and a great sword...

She refused to acknowledge that thing as human! Its appearance was the cause for all blackness- the very one polluting creation- to rush back at it.

The background transfixed her gaze. A terrible starless sky. Light snuffed out to never appear...

She was so shaken by the sight that her mind blanked as she reached for Akira, hoping for the comforting light to appear again and drive away the darkness. A subconscious backlash credited to that abomination.

Her senses waving ...her mind shut down...

Yet, a pair of arms locked her, her head tucked away at a surprisingly firm chest.

She flinched, afraid her fear becoming a reality.

But a reassuring familiar voice whispered, breaking her out of the stupor she fell into.

"Shshsh .It's alright.", his voice warm managed to break through the fog that plagued her mind, "Calm down. I am here."

It took more than a moment- far more so, than she would like to admit...- to untangle herself out of the hug. B the time she was able to, the fainting whimpering of Kiyoko

Tuka directed her gaze towards her friend, who turned to Zahei for support.

Her leader's expressionless face was hidden behind his helmet. Nevertheless, his hands were slightly shaking, betraying his current condition.

Zoltan and Balrom were not faring any better. Both faces paled, as their pupils dilatated in sheer fright.

Yet Akira's voice was heard by all. Quiet, oddly calm but serious.

"It's time for a tactical retreat Zahei."

The leader jerked. Slowly his gazed landed on Akira.

"A-akira?, squeaked Kiyoko who was holding onto Zahei like a lifeline.

"I do not know what that is,", the silver haired youth pointed at the monstrosity that was looking around uncaringly. Almost like it was trying to find its prey, "but I can feel that something is off. That isn't a normal enemy. "

"Tell me about it....", muttered the Dwarf shuddering in disgust.

"...We need to leave and report this incident.", after a moment to gather his thoughts, Zahei resolutely stated getting nods from the others.

An impromptu conclusion reached, Tuka noticed that Akira was still holding her...

Normally she would lash out at anybody touching her. Elves and especially High Elves do not engage in physical contact with others. In fact, something as simple as a handshake is usually reserved for people they trust.

In light of the terrible circumstances, she preferred to not make a scene with the idiot.

"Seriously, why can't we have a normal mission....", she lamented. Maybe they have a curse? How could all these inane events hap-

"To think insects would like to get away from me.", a voice sounded out, eerie and old. An awful gurgle followed., "Though you are quite smart to avoid a fight, no matter the futility of your efforts!"

Hesitantly and against her instincts screaming, she turned her head and saw...a sight which genuinely terrified her.

The monster was looking for them....

And at a passing glance she saw it...

Instead of a discernibly face, black liquid flow through its features. No ears or nose. Any form of protection it had for the head, cracked and missing.

Multiple orange eyes with red sclera peek at the surrounding buildings. The pupils expanding at random intervals.

An invisible pressure descended unto the party. Unable to find courage, death was overlooking their futile struggle. Wide eyes, her heartrate quickened, the organ almost jumping through her chest.

The visage of the abomination before them reformed.

Darkness rushed to its frame, a shadow ever expanding. The size increased tenfold. Colossal form congressed into muscles and black hide, surpassing the height of the surrounding buildings. One head horribly disformed. Antlers structured in the likeness of a crown. The previous orange eyes were adorning the mockery of a royal wreath.

Evil given form.

Cruelty peering down on all that light touched.

Savagery grinning maliciously through a row of jaded teeth.

The reaction of the adventurers was only natural. After all, they encountered something unexpected and beyond their imagination. A horror outside the mortal coil, but more a monster reserved for a story. A concoction in a madman's delirium to imagine what form ultimate evil could wear.

But this isn't a story where a hero could arrive...

.

.

.

A thought was shared by all

'We are going to die....'

.

.

A small sigh was missed. One created through frustration, yet weirdly filled with acceptance.

.

"Interesting.", its curiosity was apparent. A single figure rose and looked at the horror, without so much as a flinch. His frown etched another jolt by the sheer annoyance that sipped into the youth's features.

"Are you done with your parlor tricks?", Akira is seemingly unperturbed at the monstrosity. Instead of any fragmentary fear, he straightening any wriggles his clothes might had, while his features were schooled into a mask of indifference.

"Tricks? ...", the word arrived filled with uncertainty. Not due to mistaken understanding. It exploded in pure rage, "You dare think I am reliant on TRICKS?!"

"Considering how you tried to use fear in hope of finding us?", shrugging Akira slowly walked out of the building, smiling. One didn't reach his eyes, which held a lot of anger and severity, "There are others ways to address your childish action! At the very least introduce yourself. Whatever the hell you are anyway~."

A silence ensued between two opposing beings. In the meantime, the group was able to gather themselves. They looked incredulously and very confused at the young man who talks ...casually with that thing.

"To think fools such as yourself exist.", a chuckle escaped out of the monster, he spectacle before itself humorous enough.

"Fool you say?", Akira asked mildly surprised, "Why is that I wonder? Maybe because I am not shaking in fear to your sheer "monstrousness"?"

It threateningly growled, Akira continued walking in a brisk pace and stood against the knight. The distance between them over three meters. His left hand cusped his chin in a mock gesture of thoughtful pondering. His small smirk adding to the incongruity of his caution.

"Besides what would fear even accomplice.", his expression became wistful, unconcerned by the impotent wrath his words caused. Rather he rose his hand and pointed to the unconventional paladin whose attire fit better with the Cursed Knight image and Job, "You aren't going to simply let us go. So, a fight will ensue. Friendliness is at the very bottom of your intentions. Your warm welcome was anything but cordial! For shame!"

Under his breath a small murmur escaped, "The Pentecostal Oath would weep at your rudeness."

His tone was alike a teacher, one who goes into great lengths explaining an obvious point across an ignorant student.

His knowledge a small reminder of conversation between himself, Tabula Smaragdina, Bellriver and Suratan. The former being the one who originally brought up the subject regarding the Arthurian mythos, part in the possibility of Yggdrasil implementing Camelot due to some leaks- an eventuality in all honesty. After that all four of them had a lengthy conversion regarding the subject of chivalry. Its legitimacy in Medieval times, the ideals advocated, how logical and possible its implementation was... were some of the topics whereas an entertaining analysis begun.

Himself and Bell-chan to have an interesting discussion along the eccentric Tabula Moe-chan and Suratan in view of infixing some sections of the values knights of old established, with the school he wanted to build a school in their guild- base, Ainz Ooal Gown.

Fond memories of a time before.

Nevertheless, quite a bizarre sight considering the circumstances.

"Lastly, this is very important to remember.", here he turned especially serious, "You started this. Your eagerness is the solo cause we are in these unpleasant circumstances. The desire to hurt all of us. You shall receive a fight."

His gaze sharpened and glared at the multitude rows of orange pupils.

"Be ready for the consequences of your actions. Because the time of remission has long since passed."

.

.

.

"...A fool indeed.", a laugh that would scare anyone flowed out of itself, horse and full of ridicule, "Yet, you possess a modicum of intelligence unlike other insects. In the end that doesn't mean anything. The truth you conveniently forgot, is... you are going to die!"

"Maybe. But adventurers face the danger of death on daily basis. I just started my journey and I don't really plan to be defeated by a coward."

"Watch your toque. The only reason why I let you still live is-

"Spare me your pity. You are the only fool worth of pity.", immediately cut Akira only to receive a threatening and furious look, but seemingly unfazed he carried on, his smile widening and... gaining a decree of maliciousness, " The city was destroyed some time ago and nothing was found in regards to monsters living here. Which means you are simply a mildly unnerving enemy that took residence here hiding in fear! Cease any foolish notion of a superiority, which in itself lacks any true essence. Another insignificant monster that thinks itself invincible until it's put down."

The party didn't know how the young man was continuing talking down on the horror. The fear was present in their hearts...

Yet, a youth that who just begun his journey managed to stand up against the abomination.

How could they simply cower?

His bravery allowed them to slightly relax their minds and slowly rise.

Zahei wasting no time, searched pouch for his hidden weapon.

"You dare....to try to belittle me!", it shouted. Any trace of bewilderment gone. Instead, white hot fury swept over its mind. A refusal to admit an insect would have the audacity! ,"The firstborn of Abyss! I destroyed this damn city all my own! Know your place, like all the other worms that I trampled upon!"

It started walking towards them, the party froze. The declaration rattled them to the very core.

Horror filled their expressions as Zahei in an instant threw a bottle at the path of the monster.

It seemingly unconcerned kept walking. The brat in his sight, the knight paid no heed to the others. After all, a lesson need be taught to a wretched, brainless cur who dared mock it.

The bottle flew and crashed in front of its path, breaking and unleashing its contents.

In an instant, the magical solution came into contact with the outside- specifically air, it burst.

An explosion of bright red flames covered the monster and its immediate surrounding. The item [Burst Oil] took effect, licking its form, bathing it in a blanket of blazes which spread out and scorched the ground.

"Run now!", ordered Zahei grabbing Kiyoko. Before he could make a step nonchalantly called Akira the party

"Sure, go ahead~!"

"THIS IS NO TIME TO-", Tuka started to possibly reprimand and- definitely- lash towards Akira.

"It probably did nothing to slow it down. It simply waits for us to turn our backs running, in order to surprise us.", cut rather mercilessly Akira, still keeping his eyes to a specific location in the fire inferno, "PLUS IT WASN'T REALLY CONVINCING!"

His exclamation aside, they wanted to curse his hard-headedness- with Tuka and Zoltan contemplating bashing his head in for good measure!

However, a dreadful chuckle stopped any such attempts, reverberating upon the ambiance of fire.

"As I said,", an armored foot made its way out of the fire followed by a gauntlet, the damaged metal slightly charred" A clever worm."

The dreaded figure of a knight made its appearance. Despite part of its cape slightly burned, no other injuries could be seen. As if the previous inferno was a breeze that it lazily walked through.

"By the ancestors! How can it be! Even a level 4 monster would sustain some injuries from Lady Asfi's concoction!", Balrom was unable to keep his voice at the ridiculousness of the sight

"Aye and that would mean-.", Zoltan tried to state an obvious and also terrible truth

"As if you could comprehend the ends of my power.", its voice still gravely displayed a severe self-confidence. Better arrogance- it turned to the silver haired "worm" seeing him covering his mouth futile trying to hide a grin, "Something amuses you? Perhaps you have become mad? Not to worry, you are to pay for your previous transgressions.", it finished with a cruel laugh

However, against expectations Akira released ...chuckles. An act that served to further infuriate the knight.

"You know~", he drawled deliberately, "When I called you a coward, it was more to annoy you. But to think it was the truth! "

His inhibitions failed, a booming laughter escaped his throat. One full of amusement.

The reward was a burning glare filled with malice.

"Sorry, sorry~!", he gave an "innocent" smile, "I just find it hard to believe a city was destroyed and throughout all investigations nothing was found. Yet you show yourself before us. I am going to guess you even killed the Ogre, considering it hasn't shown up from its hiding spot."

Giggles momentarily stopped his spiel," Th-the question remains why now? Is it part of an elaborate plan? Highly doubtful since you couldn't know when adventurers would arrive. Is it a coincidence? "here he released a small smile, his snickers having lost their intensity, "Possible, yet I do not really believe that something happens because of a random union of doubtful factors to reach a conclusion based on certain circumstances."

"Which leads to the last choice.", the smile plastered on his face ever so grew," The stories were true, you got your ass kicked and then sulked in the ground to gather your strength".

It trembled- not out of fear or embarrassment but rage. His multiple irises would have vaporised Akira if they could. It was rewarding by a patronizing smirk.

"Hiding in the earth till the big bad Adventurer leave! And you dare try to pass this bigger than Life attitude!!!"

While the adventurers were stunned into silence, the monster's shaking worsened. All of them paling in response, they-except Kiyoko- had an urge to bash Akira's head to shut him up!

"Hindsight is really 20 20!", Akira tone was uncaring. Neither the pleading gazes nor the visible murderous look of the monster really affecting him.

.

.

However, it simply stopped. It "inhaled" and exhaled. Any bravado replaced by impassiveness reflected upon its voice.

"Normally I would want nothing more than to rip you to shreds, slowly taking pleasure in the act... but I've learnt from my previous mistakes and no matter how much I ABHOR you! I will not be led by your word-plays any longer."

"Hmhm..... Fair enough.", Akira shrugged dismissively, his grin ever-present as he pointed towards the monster, "Mission accomplished then~! You heard all that right Zahei? Now take your team and go and report this incident with the added details."

"You think I will let anybody-"

"[Lightning]"

Akira plainly stated. From his previously raised hand, a white bolt rushed to the monster who was momentarily stunned, the mana transforming unto the flashing bolt that almost instantly reached its target.

The lightning spell made contact with the blackened blade, which the monster raised in an impromptu defense.

Although not shattering the great-sword, it was still a weapon made by metal. In the past, it wouldn't have any problem to withstand the magical blast, but centuries of inability to conduct proper maintenance, any accumulated damage since its last usage and rust- the darkness behind its edge was the sole reason the blade survived. Yet its components were quite a conduit.

The spell quickly hit, shocking the wielder. It forced the monster to take some steps back to stabilize. In the process, eliciting a painful roar.

One agonizing enough, the monster disregarded a weird fluctuation that washed over it.

"Now go! I will catch you later! That will only provide little time! ", screamed Akira as he jumped into action, "Zahei remember I do not do suicide missions!"

He unsheathed his short-sword, grasping with his dominant-right hand- the pommel, rushing towards his opponent. The monster in response roared in anger and charged at him, raising its great sword with its left hand,

"WAIT!!", shouted Zahei only to fell into deaf ears.

"WE HAVE TO HELP HIM!", shouted Kiyoko

"Lord Zahei! Your orders!", added Balrom, brandishing his scimitar as Tuka took hold of her great bow preparing to fire an arrow. Zoltan started chanting a spell, while the two combatants made contact with each other.

The knight swung its weapon diagonally, hoping to cut the infuriating insect in two.

In response, Akira leaned towards the left side anticipating the attack, effectively dogging it- and swung his own sword towards the more damaged parts of the armor hoping to strike flesh.

Fortunately, the quality of the armor most likely was just as exceptional at times memorial. Now it is nothing more than scraps put together, following similar case with the weapon the monster is wielding.

Akira managed to cut flesh, splashing the ground with a black liquid substance instead of blood.

The knight, seemingly unperturbed with the injury, tried to bring the blade back with even more speed than before.

Akira calmly, but just as fast, quickly took a step back and slightly ducked, dodging the blade by a hair's breadth. He quickly lifted his left hand, aiming for the center of the monster and intoned.

"[Lightning]!"

[Four uses of the spell.]

Near double the amount of man was utilized- effectively overcharging the Spell. Quite apparent from the effect.

Widening all of its eyes, it hastily tried to dodge the bolt.

However, unlike the previous one, this time the bolt was at least thrice the size.

The Spell [Lighting] by itself, does not possess great "destructive" power in the distant land of Yggdrasil. Even if someone were to replicate its function, it still remains a mystical lightning bolt.

In the game Players could "react" to almost any spells thrown at them. A World governed by vastly contrasting and peculiar Laws and Truths of Yggdrasil.

A World where humans could start at the very bottom, only to become strong enough to slay deities, opponents of unimaginable power through hundreds of repetitions in order to obtain a single item.

A 3rd tier spell was easily foreseen, thus equally plain to react against. Much less with the myriad extraordinary means for any native to protect themselves.

However, in a different World, distinctive Rules exist. As such the seemingly "useless" spell in Yggdrasil transforms into a more powerful form. It doesn't require a chant and most opponents need either a good regeneration or resistance to the element of lightning receive a hit fearlessly. A Spell of notable penetrating and quick elements.

Understanding the futility of dodging, the monster roared as darkness manifested around its form. Suddenly, it lunged before the knight and congressed- effectively acting as protection.

A clash happened between the two supernatural abilities. None winning.

Akira stared wide eyed at the phenomenon before backing several meters. His eyes trained on the phenomena.

Not even half a second later, the clash ended with the darkness decided to follow gravity and slashed on the field nearest the knight.

Abruptly, an arrow and sharp stones broke the stalemate. Both soared towards the knight who looked peeved at his opponent. Akira himself, slightly twitched in preparations.

Once the projectiles flew above the spread of blackness, they acquired inky spots across them. Falling powerlessly, their condition worsened till they became nothing but ebony.

"Zahei get your team out of here already!", ordered Akira with a much more serious tone. He didn't spare them a glance, his sight trained at the approaching darkness. The knight was slowly moving closely.

"ARE YOU STUPID?!!", screamed Tuka at the top of her lungs seeing that the darkness was slowly spreading towards buildings. Painting them in only lines, a form of twisted spiderwebs that almost ...pulsed...

The scene sufficiently disturbing to make her involuntary shudder in disgust at how utterly erroneous it felt.

"Listen to me this instant lad we need to get out of here!", Zoltan equally disturbed, added his own frustration on the matter.

Normally screaming your plan in the presence of the enemy would be plainly stupid.

This situation is far from normal.

"There is nothing we can do but run this is my order! You stated that you wouldn't follow a suicidal plan so back off!",Zahei, rather uncharacteristically, raised his voice in both parts perturbed and angered by the youth's actions.

A sigh escaped Akira's lips, an exasperated one at that.

[Looks like the plan needs some modifications, mainly showing the group you have the means to defend against it.], sounded Rose, her voice calm and serious, [90% chance of initial stage succeeding.]

'I know.... just keep an eye on it since it seems to be waiting for the darkness to have some effect on me. Though the previous clash of spells did provide further validation for what's to come.', confirming the activation of the plan, Akira focused towards his opponent who was glaring at him even more.

"You are quite right!", professed Akira to the group as he was seeing the darkness getting closer and the knight nearing him, "I do not like a suicidal plan, not at all!"

He chuckled as the obsidian mass was only three meters before him.

"But you know I am pretty greedy!", a small laugh escaped him, unnerving the monster. It was used to people fearing it. In fact, very few people fought it head on. And out of those only two managed to gain a form of victory against it.

'Maybe the bug has more annoying surprises?', nevertheless it continued. Unconvinced, anything he deluded himself with enough to deal with [Corruption].

"And such I decided I am going to try stopping this monster.", he stopped laughing, his expression hardening. The raven substance two meters away.

"Not because I am a "hero".", here he scoffed, almost offended by his own words, he pursued on- a dry laugh took the place of the previous aggrievance, "I simply want to live a life that allowed me freedom and at the same time making my mother and brother proud..."

Only one meter away. The charcoal coagulation started coiling, tendrils begun moving like a snake. Ready to assault its prey...

"So, I decided stopping the monster that could cause death is a worthy goal.", he answered and the party could feel his smile and the sincerity of his words, momentarily stunning them as they started to understand them.

'Even though I don't know why you stay. At least I can include your protection on my goals...', a small stray though surfaced, which immediately went to the back of his head.

The darkness finally reached him and the knight lost no moment to sprang into action.

His [Corruption] isn't something anyone can simply shrug off.

Even the detestable two that managed to score a victory over it, were some of the very strongest adventurers of their time. Truly worthy of contesting for the title of strongest two hundred years ago. But even they didn't come out unscathed in a fight against it. After all, while not a legitimate caster, the darkness is a skill. A very powerful one that corrupts anything it touches, called aptly [Corruption]

The knight, whose boy it begrudgingly controls, had a very unique shield that was a Growth Weapon blessed by his Goddess. The one called Undead, was simply a worthy opponent that was able to resist the effects through undiscovered means.

Even after all this time, it still doesn't even know how. When he took control of the knight to deliver the finishing blow to the Undead after its Defeat against her, it got some memories out of the new host it inhabited.

So, it was cautious that this new foe is also equitably mysteriously powerful.

[Corruption] was the reason the citizens became monsters. This isn't its only effect though. In fact, when it summons it, the growing black mass establishes an area and "spreads". Within, it receives a significant boost in defense and power.

Additionally, the shadowy bulk can used as form of shield. Although that is a desperate move. Before it could use it at least three times a day with far better influence.

In present it can only one time that ability one time a day, further amplifying how terrifying the spell Akira used was. It understood that the first time it only was a weak version of the second instance he cast the Spell. After all, should it possess a similar level of strength, its shield should have easily repelled the bolt. Instead, the spell was able to content and clash with it.

Another reason of its trepidation, was that the Undead was also able to use lighting spells....

But even as it was moving towards the youth it was surprised by how casual.... he was smiling...?

"But I do not intent to die."

And just before it and its skill reached Akira, the world was bathed in light.

While stunned, on sheer instinct alone, it raised the great sword. Which was the correct choice, seeing as it was immediately launched towards upwards.

Again, missing a weird sensation that touched its body.

"Hoh~. Nice reflexes!", after all he thought a sneaky attack would land. Shame, considering he utilized a significant amount of Mana.

Landing, it immediately glared towards the silver haired youth-

Only to be surprised and perturbed at the spectacle before it.

A light appeared engulfing the youth, as if it wanted to provide protection to the one who called it. It gave a calming and pleasant perception. Exclaiming that everything is going to be alright. The most disturbing fact was the instinctual fear the beast felt when gazing towards it. The harmless gleam seemed ready to strike and kill any who dare face the one who controls it.

Like the rays of the sun. Protecting the core, yet ready to burn anything that comes close.

The most disturbing fact was that the very same darkness that was created by its [Corruption], the one which laid waste to a whole city, its ultimate trump card was destroyed the closer to the youth it came...

"Impossible....", it couldn't help but mutter at the sheer impossibility of hat it was seeing. To resist [Corruption] one needed an iron will and impressive strength initially to protect themselves. But to destroy it by sheer presence! Nobody would be able to do it! Its mistress made sure of it!

Even if someone was carrying a divine artifact, it would only protect the wielder. Unless a Go-

"No...", It suddenly blanked at the thought. It gazed the youth in unadulterated fear, "WHAT IS A GOD DOING HERE?!!"

"DIVINITY!!!", screamed at the same time Tuka. The party bore witness to the bizarre phenomenon before them.

A competent mage would be to understand the nature of Mana one exhibits, Aura.

All would be able to recognize divinity if they felt it even once. It was unique on the very essence constituting the sanctity Deities house within themselves.

Gods are indeed forbidden to use their powers, known as Arcanum. For their descent a new body is provided. One that possess similar physical abilities as normal people through a vessel, they emit an aura known as Divinity. A preeminent segment of their existence. One which function as an identity for any Deity, though their ability to manipulate the very power.

No matter the Divinity a God possess, being Life or Death, it doesn't change the truth. Those are Domains, core components of the World itself. Far from mortal means to even think controlling. Attempting to falsify Divinity is useless, since no mortals can utilize it, much less control it.

"You think I am a God?", Akira's tone was light of not slightly humorous. The aurora settled, hugging his frame.

Yet he still kindles a subtle divine light, a clear indication the skill [Aura of Heaven I] successfully worked. It boosted his stats by a small, yet notable margin. A surge of power he happily indulged momentarily.

Nonetheless Akira couldn't stop himself and... laughed uninhibitedly.

Despite the absurdity of the situation, he arrived a day before. Fighting monsters, he was well aware he would potentially find opposing- particularly with the reveal of the New World.

Meeting a party from another novel and fighting a legendary Boss-type enemy that was-somehow-controlling a not so recognizable- heroic knight!?

Less so.

To be compared with a god, was the proverbial icing on the cake. A comparison so simply ludicrous, it completely floored him, stunning him into silly joy. Amusement at how odd his life has gotten!

His laughter ceased. Clarity returned to his mind a moment later.

[Focus Akira. I understand that things progress even faster, but that is no reason to lose focus!], lightly scolded Rose.

'Thank you Rose-chan!'

Mentally thanking Rose, he leaped into action.

The distance between him and the monster shortening quickly, he used a skill from his Angel character, specifically one which originates from his Avatar's Job Classes.

'[Flash of Light]'.

His arm moved faster- significantly swifter than his previous blow- to deliver a powerful blow to the opponent's torso, causing the monster to quickly raise the sword to defend against the strike.

Except spells Akira unlocked some very basic Skills he acquired from two Job Classes his Angel Avatar had, particularly of the [Paladin].

Moreover, his dream provided a unique and new perspective to his journey in the game world-Yggdrasill. His subconscious provided the opportunity to observe the manner in which his character battled.

A character not confined by the Rules of Virtual Reality- a game, but "living" in the brutal world of Yggdrasill. In a way, he experienced the fighting his Avatar unleashed.

However, he is unable to fight on the same standing.

The major reason being, a significant lack of actual practice on battling. Another, the indisputable fact, currently he was vastly weaker- or "Low Levelled" to attempt the majority of the examples proudly presented, an inherit inability to replicate the method of combat he witnessed.

His current fighting capabilities could be considered adequate. Although most of the praise should go to [Gamer's Mind] for keeping his emotions in check, it is still admirable to say the least.

Not minding that his pre-emptive strike didn't wield any desired effect, Akira calmly raised his unoccupied arm,

Subsequently, the knight fearing a repetition of the Spell without an appropriate means to defend itself, it hastily moved away to avoid any dreadful conclusions.

It never arrived.

Smirking Akira proceeded to immediately use another skill, this one from his [Holy Knight] Job Class.

'[Holy Wrath]'

He swung his sword in a horizontal arc.

Instantly, a wave of transparent pure light was thrown in a full circle around him. One rushing to all directions relentlessly.

The monster cursed, while it tried to defend itself by putting the sword in the way of the wall of light in order to get the brunt of the attack.

Unfortunately, the wave crushed rather forcefully, nearly dislocating its arm and subsequently allowing the sword to escape its grasp- simultaneously brightening the blade of its darkened edge. Unobstructed, the surge crashed towards the knight- effectively flinging it towards the Colosseum.

The wave crushed with such intensity, the knight broke a part of the wall.

Idly Akira noticed not only did the attack work as intended, but also destroyed- or as Rose helpfully provided "purified"-the surrounding space.

He walked towards the sword, not forgetting to keep an eye towards the new hole created by his actions for any kind of movement.

"You know I believe I advised you to leave!", he suddenly shouted towards the party. All of them gaping at the spectacle, "Just go towards the place we hid our supplies and wait for half a day. Do keep an eye to the city. If I haven't returned think of the worst!", he chuckled and quickly added-"Do not worry I could answer some of your questions~!"

A memory resurfaced. Akira had casted [Life Essence] and [Mana Essence] after the first [Lighting] hit, as a way to measure his opponent and properly understand if he should fight or run.

The minster's Mana Point-Mp- wasn't anything terrifying, approximately at the 10-point value in Yggdrasil terms, its Hp was at an impressive 35. He cast both when the spell landed successfully in order to see how much damage he could create by a 3rd tier Spell and how receptive the knight would be to magical attacks.

A result higher than anticipated...

The second time I used both spells was, the moment I unleashed my [Aura of Heaven I]. His choice revealed no recovery in either Health or Mana and- a significant one- his Magical reserves had halved. A clear indication its weird ability has a cost.

"… Why should we?", Zahei ever the most level-headed person- asked with a hint of incredulity. The others were too overwhelmed for any reaction to their leader's words.

"The battle is far from over.", he turned his eyes towards a location near the entrance as the min-map indicated. A small red dot was lurking in the shadows of the Colosseum. Calmly he raised his hand muttered-

"[Lightning]"

The white bolt of electricity manifested. The magical projectile rushed towards the hiding monster. A surge which caused the knight to leave-going inside the Arena, "Plus it is probably getting desperate now and might target you. Despite early showings, I am neither certain nor confident in my capacity to protect you from this inky-yucky sludge. It would be better to be safe and- in case of the worst- for people to spread the information."

"A-are you a God?", came the meek voice of Kiyoko changing the atmosphere significantly. The rest already woken through Akira's Spell and words.

"Hm~", he hummed as the monster was waiting for something at the center of the arena. His [Map] showed how the location surrounding it was beginning to darken, "A good question! Though the answer will have to wait for when I finish this! While I can protect myself from this darkness, I am not sure the same applies to you. As the only one able to fight that thing, I implore you to go!"

"W-we ca-can't leave you!", surprisingly Kiyoko expressed herself far too strongly on that front.

"I am not asking you to Kiyoko-chan.", sighing Akira turned his gaze to the young girl, "This monster is powerful. Other adventurers should know of what really happened to Thorolund. Not only to prepare themselves...

His mind slightly travelled. To a moment near-yet so far away.

.

Death

.

Disappearance

.

Hope

.

His past a muddle picture of coherent despair and fear....

.

His present a crystal of hope filled with a future yet to be written.

.

"... but to at least give closure to the souls who found an unfortunate end here. The opportunity for the truth to be unraveled for all. A veracity laid bare to anyone.", Akira smiled slightly. An expression out of pure confidence.

The adventurers were looking towards each, unsure of what to do. A silent study for each member to decide on their actions. Uncertainty flashed through all of their eyes.

However, Zahei turned around and... stated walking.

"… We shall listen to you. However, we require some answers afterwards.", he said in his usual voice void of emotions yet a single eye was shining red.

"Sure, sure fearless leader~!", Akira replied observing the Colosseum as Rose was keeping him updated on the location of the knight.

"Lord Zahei-

"He has a point. Let's move out while we can.", he withheld a sigh of frustration," This information needs to be brought in the open."

The party was quite sullen at the development. Yet, unable to provide any contradictory actions to the youth's statement, they started leaving.

Tuka stayed behind a moment longer before she murmured something inaudible and left.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[The first part was a success all together, wouldn't you say?], asked Rose.

Sighing, after confirming the party's departure, Akira walked towards the sword.

Normally he would use [All Appraisal Magic Item], allowing him to identifying the target item. This spell would even tell its caster about a magic item's creator and manufacturer. However, with the spell being a high tier one, it was out of his capabilities for the moment.

Reluctantly he touched the great sword the monster left behind- a single finger made contact with pommel, while using [Light Healing] to alleviate any small injury and in case it is a cursed item-instantly bringing the blade inside his inventory.

Thankfully, whatever darkness bathed the weapon "dispelled" when the last skill struck.

But you can never be "too" careful. As such the use of a divine spell with the effect of healing seems nothing less than prudent!

'Ok so far so good. Now let's finish this.' , yet even saying that I can't help but let a sigh out of the sheer stupidity of the situation.

While I understood that meeting the main characters from Goblin Slayer inadvertently points towards more elements from different Worlds would most likely exist here, I would never even think that I would have to fight against "The Dark-Knight Day of Reckoning!".

A monster which most likely has some parasitic attributes to infect the knight from legend.

Although I received quite the confirmation through this encounter... my fears being founded, doesn't really cheer me up.

[You do not seem to have been afflicted with a negative status effect. Though the sword did try to do something when you touched it, it wasn't fast enough and was put in the inventory], helpfully informed me Rose, the most beautiful and best companion I could ever hope!

[Flattery will get you nowhere Mister~], she playfully quipped, [Now, it appears the monster hasn't moved and awaits in the centre of the Arena. Probably establishing a similar territory as before with the use of a skill. The fact it didn't notice the spells you used to sense his Mana and Hp,both times, is probably because you timed them quite well]

Nodding my head, I started running towards the location, thinking about what I saw the second time. While his Mp remained decreased, its reserves were probably depleted through the shield it conjured- unfortunately resulting in an unbounding question for how much did the Darkness cost? Maybe the murky substance was a Passive Skill? Tough to say.

Nevertheless, minimal observations were made as to the nature of this "Darkness" hailing from a skill. If I were to take into account what Rose said about my own [Aura of Heaven] "purifying" it, it sufficiently leads to the conclusion the monster's ability to generate this dark matter is a form of debuff and/or curse.

I would like to know more about it but time is of the essence.

[Aura of Heaven I] is a quite powerful skill but it has a time-limit and of course a cooldown after the activation of the skill. Though again that remains to be seen as I haven't had to time to really experiment. My only time to practise and the early installation in the fight leave me wondering on both degree and number of differences I could find...

[Also, congratulations you hit the current maximum numerical value in your Magic!], added cheerfully Rose as I was nearing an entrance to the Arena, [ I have documented my findings and we will discuss them later!]

Mentally thanking Rose, I take a gander around and confirm that it already activated its skill as the Darkness has spread to the whole place. My gaze landed on the possessed-at least that is my theory with all the glues that were collected thus far- legendary knight- whose form was currently bathed in the inky sustenance that envelopes the surroundings.

'So, a phase two.', I though rather dryly seeing the similarities to a boss fight I experienced in the past.

Notably a certain difference can be detected right away.

Instead of only a stream of darkness accompanying the knight's body, it also coalesced into the left arm. Effectively creating a shadow arm -for a lack of a better term- that has five enlarged claws.

Its previous glare filled with hubris and anger persisted, but if one was to look close enough a hint of fear can be seen.

"Funny that you didn't simply run", started Akira openly. A bright smile- he readied his sword in his dominant right hand as he flexed the fingers of his left.

"…", the monster didn't deign a response, only readying itself and slightly crouching. Its domain already covered most of the Colosseum and even blocked all exit points.

"Oh well. "and with that Akira put great strength into his right foot, slightly cracking the ground indivertibly- and rushed towards the opponent.

Not to be outdone, the knight released an animistic growl and met the initial assault with its own, with all four limbs touching the ground.

Akira instantly swept his sword to the left side of the monster hoping to again strike flesh.

Surprisingly the knight managed to dodge the blow by dropping on the ground- it threw its deformed arm in retaliation.

Of course, while Akira does possess quite a few offensive skills, his means of defence leave...much to be desired.

Instead of taking the hit head on, he jumped over it and put his left hand towards the "elbow" of the attacking limb.

"[Lightning]!"

While he was fighting, Rose noticed that the knight didn't use his left hand, in lieu of being broken. So, by targeting the other hand, he could effectively cripple it. The fact it transformed to a bigger target was even better!

However, instead of the white bolt destroying his intended target, the spell burned the monster- causing it to scream in pain.

Normally Akira would try to back away, but as he was in the air the monster with a sadistic gleam instantly threw a viscous strike with its working shadowed limb,

Hastily, Akira moved the flat of his sword in the path of the attack.

Although the short-sword couldn't absorb all the momentum and Akira was sent in a short flight.

How could the monster miss such a grand chance to enact some payback?

It sprung and practically flew towards the still airborne target with a surprisingly amount of agility. While the spell did hurt-quite a lot in fact-, it was sure the clever "worm" would likely target its arm. As [Corruption] was covering it, despite no major increase in protection, it was sure it could resist the damage and deliver a counter-attack!

Of course, the monster might have had a surprise, Akira is a bag full of wonders.

He silently muttered something- a restrained utterance inaudible even the monster could not perceive.

Instead of the expected outcome of Akira abiding by the laws of gravity, his body was pulled upwards and away from the range of the attacker.

In a seemingly impossible fashion, he was hovering some meters above the ground with seemingly no effort, as the knight was blankly stared at his opponent the moment it landed on the ground.

"How-"

Not a single second later Akira raised his hand. Stiffening the knight put the shadow hand in front of his body. Instead of a huge lightning bolt determined to smite the target of its creator's ire, a fireball was shot towards the monster.

At first a small ember emerged at the left hand of the Akira, gradually expanding in itself after it was shot- reaching the size of a large boulder- engulfing the monster in the process and concluding to a small explosion of smoke and ash.

The detonation travelled across the Colosseum. Cracks and smoke were prevalent in hiding the half the Arena.

Of course, the caster really didn't care for all that and observed as a red dot was trying to get away from the smoke.

Swiftly storing the sword in his hand, which was cracked at this point betraying the strength of the strike it blocked- for his extra one, he instantly dived towards it.

As he was nearing it, Akira called upon once again [Holy Wrath], clearing the smoke in the area as a wave of translucent light crushed around his body. Subsequently, the large are of effect did bash the unaware knight. Throwing violently its body some meters away, its claw lessening in its form. The monster sported some scorch marks evident by the charring spots in his armor. Far less than the blackened and burned Arena.

'It is kinda underwhelming really.', Akira silently mused, 'Sure divine spells and skills do significantly more damage but even then, it is... straightforward.'

[Beware, [Aura of Heaven] is approaching the halfway point of its activation time], Rose informed the dismayed youth.

'I guess I should finish this then.', Akira started approaching the monster- idly observing that the shadow arm was slowly turning to normal. The black texture dissolving.

The knight finally was able to get to its sense, tried to get up.

Yet it didn't even get halfway before it dropped on all fours.

"...How...", it slowly muttered unable to comprehend any of its current state- not even acknowledging the youth approaching him. It simply tightened its fist.

"How can this happen!!!", it howled hitting the ground with all his frustrations, latterly cracking the surface.

"Simple really~." drawled Akira, gaining another burning glare showing the hatred the monster had for the teen.

For its efforts, a sword piercing its head.

"You fought the wrong opponent.", unceremoniously the body twitched from the suddenness of the strike.

Yet the fatal hit was unquestionably effectively. After nay a moment of incomprehensible and profound confusion, the terrible monster fell dead shortly thereafter.

"And that is the end of that!", while the battle was pretty plain, it was still the very first Boss Fight- or better encounter with a stronger enemy. No matter his happiness and disappointment on the difficulty, Akira still came out as the victor.

[Just do not get too overconfident Akira~!], quipped Rose

'Of course, Rose-chan ~!'

Akira observed the knight. He was slightly happy he finished this monster...but a greater part of him was disheartened by the process of events. A foe he vanquished quite readily at that, was the reason for so many causalities. The main perpetrator that a city fell.

He had no real fantasies of grandeur. The knight was vastly weaker than it was meant to be. Evident by its uncomfortable moments in the beginning- swinging a great sword with no grace, simply brute force pointing the sharp edge- and the latter part or second phase where its animalistic sense won.

Unless he had measures against its darkness, the fight would have significantly escalated. His odds would be lower- yet still in his favour in retrospect.

"[Mana Essence], [Life Essence]"

The Spells worked as intended- showcasing the target's Hp and Mp, otherwise known as Life force and Mana, with the added benefit of presenting a small part of its abdomen highlighted, which was the monster core as earlier experiments presented.

What he saw could be described in one word that was shared by both of them.

"...Sh*t"

[...Sh*t]

A tidal wave of darkness exploded out of the body throwing Akira to a wall of the Colosseum. The sheer shockwave of the blast enough to embed him towards the inner wall of the structure, precipitating a violent cough as a small tringle of blood run down his chin.

[Akira are you alright!?], the concerned voice oh Rose brightening his murky mind.

'You....know...the... answer Rose. I'm good!'

Trying to get back up he saw something that truly made him curse Zoltan and promised to hit him for invoking Murphy.

Because a huge beast with black fur, antlers decorated with multiple eyes and a deformed arm started rising from the ground.

In the place of the body a paste of silver armour remains as the figure of the monster became larger and larger.

The beast opened all its eyes and wasting no time- zoned at Akira and glared...

It roared in cold fury, mana to shaking the shole Arena in the process.

"...So this is your final form?", in humour coloured the question of Akira- merely acquiring a snort of contempt from the fully form beast as it released its own skill pressuring him.

If before it looked unnerving, now its appearance painted the image of an unstoppable force. The Darkness didn't spread slowly, but instead engulfed the whole Colosseum in an instant. Akira even managed to acquire some black spots after [Corruption] made contact with him. Indicating that the skill took effect and latched on its victim.

A true scarily powerful enemy that would probably leave anyone despairing at its presence. After all, it feels even more wrong. A horrible stain in the tapestry of Eden. Even more Corrupt. The epitome of evil and in appearance a perfect example of the word Devil!

Yet

"Fine be that way~!", he spat some blood that was lingering in his throat and used [Light Healing], to alleviate his injuries and possibly heal some.

When you have fought for the survival of his beloved family.

~When you have experienced grand adventurers that made you die multiple dies~.

"No matter...", the light that covered his body exploded. Something unexpected considering the skill shouldn't have allowed it. The Darkness trying to pressure him retreated. Afraid of the radiance he unleashes.

~When you have fought without stopping for years in a world that survival was almost impossible. ~

His eyes blazed with a serene blue light, like stars- he glared at the many red eyes with no fear.

~When you have looked at Death countless times. ~

Rather... a small smile reached his face. One that slowly transitioned into a smirk plastered his lips as Rose mentally sighed in exasperation after understanding what this "idiotic" man was thinking.

[You should try to run.... But I guess you aren't going to. Very well! Let's defeat it!], Rose stated seriously and with resignation at the end, since she knew how stubborn the dummy can get. Nevertheless, she smiled fondly.

When you have defeated Gods, Demos, Dragons that could endanger whole realms with your guild and family.

How could a simply monster compare?

"After all..", his voice sounded different.... deeper and more powerful...

[...Although, afterwards you are going to get so scolded Mister!], yet there was no malice in her voice. In fact, the feelings of fondness could overwhelm him were not so severe the situation.

She then narrowed her eyes at the abomination.

"AINZ OOAL GOWN DOES NOT KNOW DEFEAT!", Akira Satoru shouted with such might that slightly shook the surroundings. A declaration of an irreversible truth.
