You're Unpredictable, Chance

Chance followed his brother behind without uttering any words or even opening the topic regarding his query. He didn't even know why he opened it up even though Alyssum hated it. He tried to ask about it and to discern her reaction.

However, Christian was a party popper and called him abruptly without any announcement. So he didn't have a choice but to follow behind. And now, he's stuck with his brother.

'I know he didn't like what I asked.' He thought to himself.

And as they stepped inside the kitchen, Christian turned around to face him and furrowed his brow, confused about what's on his brother's mind.

"Would you mind explaining what happened back there?" asked Christian, who was very stunned by his decision.

Chance rolled his eyes and strolled to the fridge to grab some juice yet Christian stopped him by grabbing his wrist.

"I know you like Alyssum and not Miranda so explain why you say that."

He turned around to face his brother and snatched his wrist. "It's none of your business, Christian. And how did you say that I like Alyssum?"

"The way you looked at her. I know you, Chance and you can't fool me."

Chance hysterically laughed at his brother's conclusion about his feelings which made Christian very confused. He didn't know why was he's laughing.

"I ain't like either of the two. I just asked if Miranda and I will be the perfect couple. That's all and besides, I'm having a date with Miranda." Chance replied, patting his brother's shoulder.

"What did you say?" asked Christian.

"I said, I'm having a date with Miranda by tomorrow."

"Unbelievable! You didn't like Miranda yet you agreed to have a date with her. I don't know anymore!" He exclaimed and walked out of the kitchen, leaving Chance behind.

"Christian! How about the— he completely left." He murmured.

———

She glanced at them, who were strolling inside the mansion, and left her behind the picnic mat. She sighed deeply and laid on the mat before she switched her position and glanced at the grimy skies. Her eyes gazed at the pale of the moon where it gives light all over the backyard.

Her lips heaved a deep sigh, her eyes released tears, and rushed through her cheeks. She couldn't believe herself that she was hoping that one day, he had feelings for her but no…

He liked Miranda and that's why he accepted her offer.

"I can't believe what I heard. I thought he didn't want to go on a date with her and now, he asked us if they are the perfect couple!" She exclaimed and crouched.

Her eyes rolled and sighed in frustration before grabbing some juice and some biscuits but she didn't have an appetite to eat. She felt ample when hearing his words. She tossed the biscuits out of the rack and instead, she picked up the potato chips and started eating.

"I shouldn't be eating these chips because of my mother but she ain't stopping me! I'm stressed out!" She uttered while eating the potato chips.

While eating her chips, her phone abruptly rang inside her purse so she clasped it and picked up the call. And all of a sudden, she flinched and pulled her phone away from her ear when a loud voice came from the other line.

"Aly, what happened!? Tell me the details!" Her friend, Brenda yelled.

She rolled her eyes and slowly, she placed the phone on her right and replied, "you don't need to shout! They could hear you even from miles away!"

Brenda laughed on the other line and playfully pleaded to her, "I'm sorry, Madame. Please forgive your lovely best friend. Now, tell me what's going on."

She heaved a deep sigh and shrugged as if her friend could see her reaction but she knew that Brenda would guess her feelings right now. She's doubting her friend in every situation, she always came at the right time.

"I know that sigh… Something bad happened."

"Yes…"

"Your mother made a scene again?"

"No, you silly! Much worse than my mother becoming crazy when she's drunk."

"So tell me what happened!"

She said every detail about what happened a while ago without leaving any shed of words on their conversation. Her heart shrunk with every word that Chance said and felt that she couldn't breathe.

"That hurts, man. I didn't know that he's into Miranda. I thought he hated her guts."

"I thought so too and that's why I'm very protective of him!"

"You know what… It sounds crazy but I have a small plan that could help you to stop Chance from liking that… sweet girl."

Alyssum finally laughed when she called Miranda, sweet girl, even though it was sarcasm and knowing that those two were related to each other. Those were first cousins which made Alyssum shocked. At first, she didn't believe her and made up some story to open a topic.

But then, she grabbed her phone and showed Alyssum their picture when they were kids.

"It's your cousin, Bren. Anyway, I don't think we don't need to make a plan to stop him from liking Miranda. He has his decision and he has the right to like whoever he wants." She explained.

But deep inside, it hurts her. Then, she laid her body on the mat and glimpsed at the pale of moonlight. Her tears rushed through her cheeks but she wiped it quickly when Brenda uttered,

"you're crying, Aly. You know you don't have to cry when he just asks if they are a perfect couple so you don't have to worry about it and also, if you want to know where they will be going, then we'll follow them." She explained.

Her eyes shined when Brenda gave a perfect idea that she didn't even think about.

"I know you love my idea. Now, enjoy the dinner and after that, have some rest."

Then, she hung up. Alyssum placed her phone on the side and laid her back again on the mat. She heaved a deep sigh while staring at the dark skies with lots of shiny stars.

"You are unpredictable, Chance."
