Grades

Apryl looked down at the paper she had in her right hand. She had gotten a 92 on out. It had sounded like it was a good grade to her, but she was still having a hard time understanding how the grading system worked even almost two weeks into her classes.

Even with Keith and her aunt helping her out, there was still a lot of little thing that she had been struggling with understanding. Her reading comprehension was thankfully at least getting better over the days which saved her a certain amount of time though there were still a lot of larger words she struggled with.

She wasn't enjoying her classes much more than she had from the beginning. She still had another six weeks to change her mind about that, but she didn't think it would be happening this semester. Her professors were at least somewhat understanding when she had a problem she needed help with. It was becoming easier to approach them with the problems she was dealing with once she realized that she wasn't the only who was confused or who had asked questions.

Putting the graded paper in her backpack with the rest of her history class stuff, she exited the classroom as one of the last students who was still left. She would text Keith her answer and then she would head to the library for a while so that she could study before she got home. Studying before she came home was starting to become more of a routine as she realized she did better at the library than she did at home even with her aunt's help. Especially now that her sisters were getting more comfortable moving around the house in their human form. It wasn't a bad thing, but it was creating a distraction for Apryl when she needed to be able to focus.

Right now she needed all the time she could to stay ahead with her classes as she knew it was only matter of days before her mother would be giving birth and then there would be more work to do. Lydia had already confirmed based upon her mother's shift in behavior that she could start having the puppies at any time. Apryl didn't technically need to be around for that since her aunt and siblings were there but it wasn't like she was going to be able to focus on anything once she was made aware of the situation.

Her phone buzzed as she was walking to the library but it was just Keith texting her back to let her know that it was a good grade that she got and there was nothing to worry about it with it. She 'hmed' when she read his response. She still never was able to get a different answer from him no matter how much she had bugged him about what was really going on with him and her uncle.

She kept bringing it up to him over the days when she would meet with him when she wanted to study some place that wasn't so far away from the library or when she came over to ask him for help with her homework, but each time he either ignored her question or brushed her off when she asked and maintained his answer that nothing was going on even though she felt that there was something slightly different not only with him but her uncle as well.

Lydia didn't think that there had been a change with her partner and when Apryl had asked if she knew if Brian knew Keith, she had replied that she didn't think so but couldn't be sure. It wasn't a brush off answer from her aunt either, she had taken some time to think about it before she had given Apryl the answer. She asked Apryl why and she had decided that the best reply was to explain that Keith had asked about him once after she had gone to get her ID with him and it made her wonder if they knew each other.

"Afternoon." Apryl greeted a touch late as she only realized that she had crossed path with Chester only after he had already walked past her.

"Afternoon." He returned the greeting but didn't bother stopping to talk with her. She still didn't like him much more than she had before but she was getting used to being around him since he came more often than she expected either to talk with Keith or to ask him for something or other related to the student council.

She tried to be more polite to him when they had to interact, but Chester's behavior towards her hadn't changed much since they first met. She still hadn't found a chance to talk with Callum yet either even though he was frequently in the library studying in the same corner she had first seen him in.

Apryl wanted to talk to him, but he always seemed busy and focused on something or other either with his position as secretary or school work that she didn't want to bother him. It seemed to her that he was fair more worried about his grades than she was about hers even though he had evidentially been going to college far longer than she had been.

Going to the library she could at least be certain most days that the chair she enjoyed sitting in wouldn't be occupied by anyone else as long as she came about the same time each day she was on campus.

It was still a fairly quiet seat to take so long as Callum's friend hadn't decided to come with him and make a lot of noise. It was also far enough out of the way that she could eat her lunch with worrying about getting in anyone's way.

Getting out her textbooks and note books she knew that she really needed to focus today. Now that both of her classes were assigning homework that would be due each week, she needed to increase the pace that she was working at. History was annoying but Composition was the class that scared her because it was hard to understand a lot of the homework that she was assigned and she also hated it because there were a lot more questions asked in class that than there were in history class. Plus her professor seemed to like to call on her a lot more to answer certain questions once he knew that she was struggling. Most of them she didn't know the answer to and that made it worse for her because she felt awkward and clumsy in front of her other classmates.

She didn't think that he was doing it to be mean because she was struggling and none of her classmates ever laughed when she didn't know the answer to a question but it didn't help her to stop from feeling uncomfortable and somewhat stupid.

"You may forget, but our kind do have very sensitive noses. I can't help but get hungry every time you decide to sit behind me and eat your lunch." Apryl was so deep in thought that it took a moment for her to realize that the person was talking to her. When she lifted her head from her textbook to see who was talking, she came face to face with Callum who was looking at her with thoughtful violet colored eyes.
