Something Magical

Apryl felt slightly less worried when she was on her way to school after had been talking with Houston. He seemed reliable enough and didn't have a reason to doubt him since Chester had contacted him to reach out her. At least there would be someone nearby to keep an eye on the house while she was gone. The werewolf had even exchanged his phone number with her so that they could text back and forth if anything came up.

Now she would just have to figure out the day without falling asleep in class or saying anything accidentally that she ought not say. If she could get through the day, then the next day she could take it more low since she didn't have classes and was slightly ahead on the schoolwork that she had to do.

She had considered the fact that she might be able to catch a nap before class once she got there, but that hope was crushed the moment that Callum pounced on her the moment that she entered the admin building.

"Are you sure you're okay?" he asked after giving her a huge hug and looking and looking her over to see if there was any indication that something happened.

"Yes, I am perfectly fine. Nothing happened yet. Consider it an argument with a hidden threat behind it that I don't know anything about." Apryl explained as she shifted away from the smaller werewolf who was practically attached to her so that she could sit down at a table so she could rest her exhausted body.

"Are you sure? You don't look like you got much sleep last night?" Keith was the one who had asked this question. She hadn't even realized that he was there until she heard him talk.

"Yeah? And you don't look much better." Apryl replied when she glanced over at him and saw that he looked rather exhausted himself. Had he not being able to sleep much because of what happened?

"Of course I couldn't. You messaged at almost midnight indicating that something was wrong. It's hard to sleep after that." Keith replied. Apryl couldn't also the miss the fact that his mood seemed more brusk and sour compared to usually.

"Sorry, I thought that it would be better to say something at the time since it was bothering me." Apryl replied as she rested her head on her arms.

"At least I'm not grumpy when I'm tired." She mumbled with her eyes closed.

"I'm not being grumpy. I'm just tired so I don't have as much energy to talk like I usually do." Keith replied as he defended his change in behavior.

"Same difference." She argued.

"If you're both like this, why don't I give you something that I think might help?" Callum suggested as he began to rummage in his backpack.

"What thing? The only cure for this would be the problem resolving itself or sleep." Keith replied as he watched what his friend was doing.

"Actually I think I have something magical that might change your mind about that." Callum replied as he pulled out a box.

"Just got these recently and have only tried a few myself but I think they work really well and might be exactly what the two of you need." he told them as he brought the box over to where Apryl was sitting at the table and opened it up. Inside there were quarter sized black and white mixed balls.

"What are they supposed to be?" Apryl asked as she looked at confused. She hadn't seen anything like them before but the smell wasn't bad.

"They're magic." Was all that Callum had said as he picked one up and held it out so that Apryl could take it.

"Trust me it isn't anything dangerous and I think that you would rather like it." Callum insisted as he handed one over to Keith before coming back to the box to grab one himself.

Keith and Apryl exchange a glance with each other after the smaller werewolf popped on into his mouth without hesitation. They could only assume that it would be safe to take since he did it without hesitation.

They tried it both at the same time and made an odd face when they first put it into their mouth. It was slightly bitter at the front which wasn't that pleasant but underneath that once they started chewing it, there was a sweetness.

"Now give it a few minutes and I think that you will be thanking me for this later." Callum said as he offered each of them another one.

"How long do we have to wait to know if you're right?" Apryl asked as she took another one and ate it without waiting this time.

"Give it about ten minutes and I think that you will be able to know for sure." Callum replied, he had eaten a third one by the time that they had finished with the second.

Apryl at least hoped that he was right when he said this because she needed some kind of magic that would help her to be able to get through the day. If these worked, she would be happy to keep eating them any time she felt like this in order to be able to get through the rest of the day.

Callum hadn't been wrong, after about ten minutes Apryl at least noticed that her exhaustion felt like it was melting away and she felt a strange tingling sensation at the back of her head that was making her feel like she had energy she didn't know that she had.

"What exactly is this?" Keith asked, a surprised expression his face that indicated that he was most likely feeling the same affected from it that Apryl was. Callum grinned as he held up the box.

"This my friends is caffeine. Caffeine that has been synthesized in a way that is safe for us to take without having to worry about any bad side effects." He explained.

"You can have more if you like. I wouldn't advise taking too much though until you're used to it. It can be quite strong and some side effects that haven't been explored yet." He warned when Apryl indicated that she wanted another. Perhaps this would be the magic that she needed to get through the rest of the day.
