Emergence

"Huh?"  I looked up at him.  I had been spacing out so much that his voice in my mind had startled me into gasping out loud.

"You look like a horse pulling a plow," he frowned with exasperation.  "I asked you to guide his board, not to haul him along like that."

"What's the big deal?"  I shrugged.  "Like you said, he's not heavy.  It's just easier to walk like this, and you know I would do anything for him."

I turned back to check on Corwin and found him asleep.  "Poor Baby.  He's so tired from his injuries that he's sleeping again."

"I magiked him a bit so he would sleep through the journey.  I don't know if he told you the extent of his injuries, but most of his ribs are broken, and so is his right collarbone."  Connor frowned.
