Chapter 3 : * The little Big Brother *
In his third year, Prince started to attend school, his parents decided that he will be on home school and they decided that will be the way it is, so he won't be able to communicate with other people that will introduce him to danger, but as he is about to start his first year in elementary fate had made it's way for the child to discover more outside of their home. They are aware that they are depriving him of opportunity to mingle and play with other kids inspite of the fact that they see how excited and happy he is when he ls around with other kids like his cousins and they feel guilty for that.
" My classmate Aliyah said I am smart ", Ria one of his cousin said.
"My classmate John is my bestfriend in school", Andrew said.
" What is classmate?", Prince innocently asked his cousins.
" You don't know what is classmates? your classmates in school", Ria simply said without explaining further. He is so confused he can't get a proper information from his cousins whom some are younger than he is, so he ran to his parents for a proper answer.
" Mama, what is classmates?", he asks his mother. Karen look at her husband seems asking for help in explaining to his son.
" Baby, classmates are those childrens who go to the same school with you , you wear the same uniform, the same teacher taught you about abc and many more, and you and your classmates learn the same lessons , they can seat beside you and they can be asked by teachers about their assignments and lessons in school ", Karen explained.
" That sound exciting! Why I don't have classmates? ", Prince suddenly asked, enthusiasm was evident in his facial expression.
" Because you're in a home school, only those who are regular students go to school and study there";, Karen said.
" Mama, I want to go to school and have classmates ", Prince told his mother
" Being in regular school means you have to wake up early , take a bath early, change into uniform, and prepare and travel to go to school everyday, that's very tiring! ", Karen want to discourage her son.
" It's okay mom, I want to have friends and classmates in school ", Prince was so keen on his decision and he is so serious in going to regular school. Even when he was brought to be enrolled in the nearest school in town he was so excited and happiness can be mirrored by his reactions, upon arrival at home after the enrollment, he enthusiastically spread the news to his cousins by calling them one by one through phone that he will have classmates in school and they already bought his school things which he himself personally choosed after enrolling.. He is six years old when he started to study in a regular school, though against their will still they hope that their approval will do him good . Anyway Prince,,is young but matured in some ways, enough to understand every wisdom they want to inculcate in his young mind, and one of their reminder is never to be angry in school , always be kind and friendly to everybody to avoid him to be bullied that will cause his anger.
They are so adept in reminding him to be positive and never get mad, be understanding to everyone's circumstances, there are reason's why sometimes some people act not as good as they are suppose to be. During the first week of classes , Karen always accompany her son in school , but it was Prince who ask for independence, they had no idea where he learned the word 'independent.'
" No mama! I'm a big boy now! I can take care of myself! look! everybody in school has no mama to watch over them, they are allowed to go to school by themselves";, Prince argue with his mom.
" That's it, you're only six years old, you're not suppose to go by yourself, I am suppose to be there to watch over you! besides I want to take care of you!", Karen was trying to convince her sulking son.
"; Mom all of my classmates are independent now, what my friends will thought of me? that I'm a mama's boy? ", Prince told her.
" That's it son ! you're only six years old, you're still a baby! I want to make sure you're always safe!", Karen said.
" Okay, what if mama will just drop you off in school? "‐, Joseph interven to their argument.
" Then after you drop me off to school, you will leave me there? ";, Prince asked his mother.
" Yes! then I'll just pick you up after your classes", Karen agreed eventhough the suggestion is against her will.
" ; Okay! as long as you won't be there to watch after me just like a mama's boy ";, Prince agreed at last.Joseph secretly laughed at his wife seeing how annoy she is but can't argue further with her son whom at such a young age was asking for independence. He understand how worried his wife is, but they have no choice but to allow him to go on regular school upon his own request and he is so adept that they have no choice but to give in to his wishes. . At his age he already knows what he wants and he will definitely fight to get what he wants.
as parents they cannot deprive him of his opportunity to discover more in life though he is too young for those adventures.
There are so many 'first ' experiences for Prince, For instance,Karen had notice that her son talk so much about one of his classmate a girl named Patrice, he praise the girl and tag her as the most beautiful in the whole school.
" Mom, hurry up Patrice is there and I wanted to be able to walk with her going to our school room." Prince was in a hurry as she halted the car and he called the girl's name louder so she will hear him, then the girl look back and smiled at him and she notice the priceless smile on her son's lips as he beams on her.
" She's cute!", Karen commented.
" I told you mom! we'll talk later", he replied happily while moving out of the car with his bag on his back and run to keep stride with the waiting girl. While at home, Karen was walking back and forth waiting near the phone for the call that her son had become a monster divided into two colors, that never come til the end of the school year.
" Dad and I have a good news for you!",
Karen told her son during dinner.
" That you finally bought a dog for me mom?", Prince asked.
" No ! of course not!", Karen replied.
" What is it mom?", Prince , is literally waiting for the good news to be spilled out.
" Son, you always ask mom and I why you don't have a baby sister or brother?", Joseph said.
" Really? papa, I will have a baby sister or brother?", Prince asked excitedly.
" Yes! mama is pregnant and soon you will have a baby sister or brother!", Joseph replied.
" Yessss! Which is papa a brother or a sister?", after clapping his hands,he asked again.
" Right now we don't know yet if it's a girl or boy, but soon when mom's tummy is bigger we will know", Joseph answered.The next thing he did was call Patrice and inform her of the good news.
The days goes so fast that before they knew it they already have another baby to hold
a baby girl whom they named Kate. Everytime Prince came home from school he directly goes to his parent's room where Kate cot was and play with her before going to his own room. Again, he requested to have his own room just like Patrice who has her own room, and because he is a big boy now, and for now at seven his mom or dad could no longer kiss him or he will kiss them he said it feels so gross, only Kate was aloud to kiss him.
" He is acting as though he is big enough , we are not even allowed to kiss him, once I tried to kiss him he said it feels so disgusting that he cleaned his face for about fiften minutes", Karen relay laughingly to her husband.
" Kids nowadays are very advance, they mature too fast", Joseph told his wife.
" I'm just glad that I have Kate to take care of, my worries for our son lessen because of Kate. She's a very lovable little girl", Karen said.
" For almost seven years we only have Prince to worry about, but now he is a big brother whom acting that he really is", Joseph said, trying to understand what his wife feels.
" Yes, seven years of blissful happiness in taking care of our son, may the next addition to our family will come after seven years again", Karen hopefully said.
" I hope it will be sooner, because we had waited for Kate for so long even we don't use any contraceptives then when she came hope arises within me that the next one will come soon", Joseph said.
" Honey, though fulfilling, it's not easy to take care of one baby til they grew up, I have experience it with Prince, now with Kate", Karen laughing told her husband.
" As what I saw you did it splendidly with Prince and now with Kate, another one will not be a big burden for you", Joseph insisted.
" Whew! that's so easy for you to say , pregnancy is not easy as well", Karen said.
" We will hire a househelp so you will not have difficulty in taking care of the kids", Joseph's said.
" Okay, we can have help but I prefer to take care of them personally, anyway Prince can take care of himself now, he is such an angel to me and his sister, when he arrive from school he spend time to play with his sister and I am also glad that he get along well with his classmates,he already had his own set of friends in school.", Karen said.
" That means he is such a happy kid now,, he will bring that positivity until he grows up" Joseph said.
" Yes, I am so bless to have our family, I am the luckiest woman ever, I have the man I love , my loving and responsible husband and two wonderful kids, I can never ask for more",
Karen said emotionally.
" I am also the luckiest to have you and our kids, since you came in my life my farm had doubled it's earning, " Joseph replied, their emotional banter was cut off shortly when they hear Kate usual scream for attention when she saw both her parents.
" Hello my daughter! my most favorite baby girl Kate", Joseph lovingly talk to his daughter as he pick her up from the cot that Karen brought outside during daytime so she can watch after her while doing the housechores, Kate giggles and tried to bite his father's face. Karen smiled at the beautiful sight before her eyes, her heart grows heavy with emotion.
" I think she's showing signs of teethering, she used to bite me too in my hands", Karen told her husband.
" They're growing so fast, look at Prince he is such a fine young man now", Joseph said.
" But for now I will enjoy kissing my little angel, for in a few years more I can no longer kiss her like this", Karen said while showering her daughter with playful tiny kisses on the cheeks, which make the child laugh happily. Both couple play with the child as if Kate was trying to go to her mom but Joseph keep her away from her mother's grasp. They were a sight of awesome family who play and cuddle lovingly their daughter which in turn was screaming in joy and excitement that was always a part of their daily routine as family.
