Free ride

"Honey, why is there a guy outside my house telling me he's your new ride to school?" My mom asks with her arms crossed.

"What?" Here I am, in my room, putting on my shoes, and mom comes me and tells me,

"There's a guy outside and he says he's your ride."

"What?" I ask again.

I walk past my mom and hurry downstairs to see what my mom's talking about. I open the front door and lo and behold, there is a guy outside.

"Jaxon?" I say in disbelief and he smiles. "What are you doing here?!" I come out and close the door behind me.

"I'm here to take you to school." He shrugs.

"What? Why?!"

"You said you needed a free ride. You did say you are tired of driving."

"Yeah but I didn't mean it!" I whisper shout.

"Oh. Did I make a mistake?"

"Yes you did."

"Should I leave?" He points to his car.

"No. I didn't say that. You are here already. I don't want to waste your time. Just come in.". I open the door and step aside for him to enter. "Whatever my parents say or do, don't-"

"Who's that?" My dad interuppts me.

"Hey dad, this is-"

"Summer's new ride to school." My mom chimes in.

"What?"

"No dad. It's just that he's a friend and he lives close by-"

"I thought Chelsea and Austin are your only friends." Again, he interuppts me.

"No dad. Chelsea is my friend and Austin is her boyfriend."

"But doesn't that makes him your friend?" My mom asks.

"No it doesn't. He's just-"

"But if he isn't your friend, then-"

"The point here is that Chelsea's my friend, Austin is her boyfriend, and Jaxon is his best friend!"

"Who's Jaxon?" My dad asks confused.

"I am." Jaxon speaks up and he moves towards my dad, extending his hand. "Jaxon Prinston."

"Prinston?" My dad asks and shakes his hand.

"Yes sir." He smiles and moves to my mom.

"I'm Summer's mom but you can just call me Ava." My mom hugs him.

"Hi Ava." He smiles showing off his dimples.

"Isn't-" My dad starts but I interuppt him.

"Would you look at the time! We're going to be late." I push Jaxon towards the door.

"What about your backpack?" Mom holds it out and I go grab it from her.

"Bye mom. Bye dad." I say and push Jaxon outside.

"Bye Mr Hathaway, Mrs Hathaway!" Jaxon shouts.

"Hope we see you again?!" My mom also shouts and I close the door.

"Let's go." I say and walk to his car.

"You have a nice family by the way." He states when he enters the car.

"Just drive."

.......

"I saw you coming out of Jaxon's car this morning." Chelsea nudges me and winks.

We are on our way to class.

"It's nothing Chelsea. He decided to give me a ride because I wanted one."

"Hey! You never asked me for a ride."

"I never asked him for one either. He just showed up at my house this morning and I didn't want to turn him down. And besides, you can show up to give me a ride anytime."

"I know of course. But deep down you were happy right?" She nudges me again.

"Of course. It's Jaxon Prinston we're talking about here."

"Yeah I'll be glad if Austin gives me rides to school."

"He doesn't?" I ask her as we enter the class.

"Nope. He doesn't give me a ride in his Aston Martin."

"But he lets you drive it?"

"Nope. But he lets me drive his Wrangler." She smiles.

"You lucky daughter of a pussy." We both sit down.

"Aren't I?" She flips her hair. "Oh that reminds me, are you going to the game this Friday?" She brings out her science book and drops it on her table.

"Why should I?"

Don't get me wrong, but I think football is a waste of time.

"Why shouldn't you? It's the first game of the season."

"So?"

"So?!" She shouts in disbelief. "So?!" She scoffs. "I can't believe this."

"I think it's a waste of time." I shrug.

"I don't even know you anymore." She shakes her head and the teacher walks in.

"C'mon."

"Don't talk to me." She huffs and I chuckle.

"Have it your way then."
