Nathan

TWO YEARS AGO

"Hey you." Nathan smiles at me as he walks towards me.

Nathan Kruger. He has blue eyes, brown hair, has a pale skin and is my boyfriend.

Yes, boyfriend.

We've been dating for four months now and it has been a bliss.

I know most people think you can't fall in love at the age of sixteen, but I did.

And Nathan is a proof of that.

"Hi." I smile back.

I first met him during last year's summer camp. He came with his cousin that summer, but I noticed him.

I fell in love with his smile.

Although his cousin had dimples and I have had a thing with dimples since when I was little, I still noticed Nathan first.

We got to know each other, spent more time with each other and coincidentally, we found out we attend the same school.

Turns out he loves football and hopes to be a professional footballer.

Cute.

"Are you still on for tonight?" He asks as he puts his hand over my shoulder.

"I've told my mom. My dad isn't going to be home until late tonight."

"Great." He smiles. "I'll pick you up?"

"It's a date." I confirm.

The bell rings and we walk to class.

.....

I got home earlier than usual so I could get ready for my date.

My mom isn't going to be home tonight, my dad would come home late. So that left only my uncle and I.

I walked in the house to see my uncle in the living room, sitting in front of the television.

Uncle Charles. My dad's younger brother and a lazy ass man. He has hazel eyes, and black hair.

At thirty six, he has made up his mind that he isn't going to have a family. Says it's time consuming and demanding.

He's lazy, but lazily rich. He runs his own IT company and decided to take a month off to rest at our place.

He's like my best friend, but after Chelsea.

"Hey uncle Charles." I go sit beside him and he puts his hand around my shoulder.

"Sup kiddo. How was school?" He doesn't take his eyes off the TV.

"Here and there." I sigh. "I have a date tonight." I state.

He finally looks at me. "A date?"

"Yes. I'm going to the movies with Nathan."

"You mean your boyfriend?"

I nod.

"Yes."

"Ah young love. I remember when I was your age. I had ladies flocking me like bees to honey."

"Yeah yeah yeah." I roll my eyes and stand up. "I better go get ready."

"If you need help, I'm here."

"Or I can just facetime my bestie." I smile and walk off.

Chelsea and I have been best friends since third grade.

She had to move away during freshman year because her dad built an oil company in another city. Although we FaceTime a lot, it still doesn't feel the same without her here.

I get to my room and immediately bring out my laptop to facetime her.

"Hey bishhhhh." Chelsea says immediately she picks my call.

"Hi to you too." I sit on my bed.

"So lame." She rolls her eyes. "So what's up?"

"I have a date with Nathan."

"Where?"

"The movies."

"Classic."

My phone dings, indicating a message so I tap on it.

UNKNOWN: I'VE WARNED YOU SEVERAL TIMES, BUT IT SEEMS YOU NEVER LISTEN. IF I CAN'T HAVE YOU, THEN NO ONE CAN.

My face pales

"Um Chelsea?"

"What's up?"

"It's him again." I look her at her with fear.

"What did he say?"

I repeat the message to her and she frowns.

"I'm starting to think this is more than a prank." I speak up when she doesn't say anything for a while.

I've been receiving threatening messages from an unknown number for the past two months.

They've all been about how Nathan and I aren't supposed to be together and how I should break up with him and such.

I haven't told anyone else apart from Chelsea.

"Calm down. I'm sure it's nothing. It's just plain rubbish." She says. "Have you told Nathan?"

I shake my head. "No."

"Just go to your date tonight and when you get back, inform your dad."

"Sure." I nod.

"He'd know what to do. Now go get ready."

"Okay." I nod and hang up.

I really do hope the messages mean nothing.

Two hours later, I was ready and I walked downstairs.

I was dressed in a yellow floral short dress and nude wedges. I let my hair down, and I had a black purse.

Uncle Charles is in the kitchen and I walk up to him.

"Whatcha doing?" I rest on the counter.

He looks up from the stove and smiles.

"Making dinner." He eyes me. "You look nice."

"Thank you."

My phone dings and it's a message from Nathan.

"Got to go. Bye." I walk out.

"See you. Have fun but not too much fun okay?" He shouts behind me.

"Sure!" I call out as I close the door.

I walked to Nathan's car and got in.

"Hey you." He greets me.

"Hi." I smile.

"Ready?" He asks.

"As I'll ever be."

He pulls out of the driveway and we head towards the movies.

We got there, watched an horror movie, went for dinner, and we were on our way back home when my phone dinged again.

I brought it out of my purse, and tapped on the message.

UNKNOWN: I HOPE WHEN HE'S GONE, YOU'LL FINALLY BE MINE.

When who's gone?

"Hey so I was thinking," Nathan starts but I can't hear him anymore.

I read the message over and over again until it finally clicked.

I turned to Nathan in fear.

"Nathan-"

Before I could say anything, a bright shining light from Nathan's side of the door blinds my eyes and I feel a strong impact on the side of the car throwing us off the road.

Something had hit our car.

The car turns so many times I forgot to count.

I hid my head everywhere and I couldn't move.

When the car finally came to a stop, it was upside-down and I smelt blood. I slowly opened my eyes and all I could see was red.

Blood was everywhere. I looked at Nathan but he wasn't moving.

"Na-" I tried, but I couldn't speak a word.

He also had blood gushing from everywhere.

My vision was blurry but not far from the car, I could see a truck right in the middle of the road. Someone got down and everything became slow.

I was slowly pulled into a deep sleep but right before I closed my eyes, the person walks to our car and crotches down to the car's level by my window.

He smiles. "Hi darling."

......

THREE MONTHS LATER.

I slowly open my eyes and the first thing I see is a sharp bright light.

I immediately close it again. I opened them again, but this time, prepared for the light.

I turn my head to see my mom sleeping beside me and my dad sitting on a chair not far from her.

"Mom? Dad?" They both look at me with shock and my mom immediately burst into tears.

"Darling. You're awake!" She holds my hand.

My dad walks to me and smiles. "Hey kid."

The door opens and uncle Charles walks in.

"You guys should-" He stops when he sees me and smiles. "I'll go get the doc." He walks out again.

"Where am I?" I ask them but they just stare at each other.

"In the hospital honey. You had a bad accident." My mom says.

"Accident?" I look at her confused.

The doctor walks in with uncle Charles and some nurses.

"Hello Summer." He smiles. "It's good to see you finally awake."

Finally awake?

"I'm John your doctor and I'd like to ask you a few questions." He says and I managed to nod.

"Okay. How are you feeling?"

"Um..... light in the head, drowsy, thirsty and sleepy."

"Okay. Do you feel any kind of pain anywhere?"

"I have a terrible headache, My legs feel too heavy for me to move and my chest feels like it's burning." I answer him.

He nods. "Okay. Last question. What do you remember last?" He asks and the room is suddenly quiet.

Umm what I remember last.

Isn't it-

"I came home back from school and I FaceTimed Chelsea."

"That's what you remember?" John asks again.

"Um yes."

"Honey don't you remember your date with Nathan and-" My mom begins but I look at her confused.

"Nathan?"

She nods. "Yes Nathan. Honey you told me-"

"Who's Nathan?"
