006 Unexpected turn of events

"Are you sure you can reach it?" I asked, holding the steel chairs so it would stop wobbling while she step on it.

"Yes I can, just a little further" she answered, stretching her arms even more and standing on her tiptoes to try and reach the black hiking backpack that was currently hanged almost on the ceiling.

'Jesus why would they place it here?' I wondered in confusion. I know some store hang stuff in high places to have more space for displaying other items yet I don't know how they reach for it. Do they perhaps just keep it on display and have other stacks? Well I'm not really gonna try and find it cause here's one right infront of us, it just need a little effort to grab.

"Are you really sure you can reach it? I'm taller than you so I can get that" I suggested when I noticed that she was having a hard time. She didn't answer and kept stretching her arms even more to try and reach it.

'Jeez stop doing that, your arm isn't gonna get longer' I thought grimly as I start to get annoy.

"What a pain" I murmured before placing my arms around her small waist and lift her up a little higher. She gasped in surprise yet wasted no time in reaching the backpack in an instant.

"I got it!" she cheered, smiling brightly as I put her down gently.

"Yeah thanks..." I grabbed the backpack gently from her and went back to the small snack bar where we stayed. We planned to pack the remaining food we couldn't consume and eat it for later, afterall this hunger drains faster than stamina and I don't know why. 'Excessive movement perhaps?' that's what all I could come up with.

As we went back to the store I noticed there were red six dots on the map not too far away from us.

"Pack it faster and let's get out of here" I commanded, giving her the backpack. She obeyed gladly and packed the stuff hurriedly without pause till everything was packed.

"Give me the backpack, I'll carry it" I suggested, extending my arm towards her yet she shook her head.

"It's just food and refreshments, it's not that heavy so I got it" she pointed out.

'Guess she's useful' I thought. I agreed to her choice and led the way towards the exit. The red dots from earlier were moving towards us really fast so I grabbed her arms and quickened our pace.

"U-uhmm is something the matter?" she stuttered as she tried to keep up with me, her head looking around for any danger.

"I think there's runners here" I stated grimly.

"Runners!? You mean the zombies that runs really fast?" she gasped, her eyes suddenly clouding with fear and once again looked around us for any danger in a more panicky way.

"Hey calm down, we're close to the exit so everything would be fine once we're out" I reassured her even though I was also trying to reel in my fear that was about to come to the surface. If it was really runners we're in big trouble, they ran faster than and proved to be a pain in the ass on the game. Their weakness is their feet and it would be easy to cut it if we have a long melee weapon but right now we don't even have a gun, we're basically doomed at the moment yet I didn't give up. They're still 3 miles away from us so if we reach the exit we'll hurriedly find somewhere nearby to hide since it doesn't look like there are zombies outside.

We finally reached the exit and a breath of relief left my mouth only for everything to slow down. Out of nowhere something came out from our sides, it was too fast for my eye to see and I couldn't react instantly to it. It jumped against my companion and made her tripped them fall over with it on top of her. I also fell at the sudden impact from my back, like someone stepped on me.

"Fuck that hurts" I groaned in pain, clutching that hit the ground when I fell face first.

"H-help..." I heard a weak calling. My eyes widen and I instantly turned my head only to froze on the spot.

Blood slid on the ground towards my feet while tears fell from my eyes. My companion that I haven't even asked what's her name was getting eaten by a mutated dog.

"But...how.." I murmured in shock, remembering that there weren't any red dots shown on the map, or was I too late to check it again? Right now my mistake didn't matter. Her eyes were staring directly at mine as the life drain from it while unshed tears made her eyes look glassy. The mutated dog finished it's meal and stared at me but I made no move to run.

'My body won't move' I thought as I stared blankly at the mutated dog that made it's way towards me. I felt numbed inside and out, I couldn't believe how I let someone die. 'I deserve to die too' those were my last thoughts before the dog jumped on me and started it's new feast.

Blood and flesh scattered on the ground and two dead bodies lay not too far apart. The watch on the man's arm suddenly glowed and the nearby enemies disintegrated into the air and a small shaped dome was built around the two bodies that lay on the ground, it seemed like it was a barrier that protected the two corpse.

{Enemies have been dispatched}

A mechanical voice from the watch spoke and a green screen appeared.
