The door swung open; slower than she had desired. Mae's quiet journey to Vaughn, had left her at a breaking point. It was late; she hurt both physically and emotionally, and until that moment, she'd been able to hold it together.

"Mae," Baas said, rubbing at his eyes as he stood in the doorway.

Be it the sight of him or the sound of his voice, a tear slipped from her eye; the bottle had been shattered. Tears began to pour out as she grabbed at his shirt and pulled him down, wrapping her arms around his neck, burying her face against his shoulder. She didn't want him to see her cry, but she could no longer stop.

Without a word, he wrapped his arms around her, lifted her up and brought her inside. Closing the door, he carried her into the living room where he sat on the floor, and held her on his lap, letting her cry for as long as she needed.

"How bad is it?" he asked once she had managed to catch her breath and regain some amount of control.
