Friends with benefits

On a regular school day inside of a regular classroom, a purple haired girl stood at her desk with her head down, staring at the writings that filled the top surface.

[SLUT] [BITCH] [CRIMINAL] [WHORE] Obviously they weren't very kind words.

Raiden Mei stood there with an unreadable expression as a few other classmates seemed to peek over at her before returning to their own snickering and whispers.

"Oh, well would ya look at that." A familiar voice broke her out of her thoughts for a moment. She turned to Wave looking at the writing on the desk for a moment as he seemed to be looking at it in an odd manner with his head slightly tilted.

*POP sfx*

"What are you...?" She tried to voice at as he popped off the cap of a marker from his pocket.

Ignoring her, he added his own words to the desk.

[IDIOTS WITH SHIT VOCABULARY] The words were right at the center as he drew arrows towards all the others.

Mei blinked at the new addition to her desk for a moment before a small laugh escaped from her. Her shoulders were trembling a little as she held it back with a visible smile.

Wave didn't say anything afterward, instead he opted to sneer at a few random students who jumped in fright before moving over to his own desk to sleep. It was right next to hers as no one else was brave enough to sit next to him.

The purple haired girl took her seat and glanced over at her gray haired friend for a moment with a smile despite the fact that he hadn't said anything to her yet today. At times like these, despite her current circumstances, she was glad to have made two friends like Kiana and Wave because of it.

'What are you smiling about, they'll turn on you just like the rest of them.'

The words appeared in her head, causing her to freeze. For awhile now, she had been having dark thoughts when it came to the other students but she chalked it up to her pent up emotions that have built up from their harrassment and slander. Yet they had never once been directed towards her friends.

'No, they wouldn't.' She thought completely assured that something like that would never happen.

'Oh? Then what happened the other day when you found them cozying up with each other?' The voice made her recall when she found the two on the bed together.

'That was just a mistake, nothing happened.' She denied as Kiana had explained the circumstances leading up to that.

'She's going to take him away. Then you'll be all alone again.'

'No... you're wrong...'

'Am I really? Nothing will change unless you stake your claim now.' The voice seemed to be getting more aggressive now.

'W-What are you saying!?'

'I am saying that you must take what should be yours-'

*FLICK* "Ah!" Mei yelped bringing her hands to her forehead in pain as she was broken out of her thoughts.

"Bad thoughts go away." Wave said as he looked at her his usual bored expression, however she noticed there was something different about him there. The sclera of his eyes were completely black while the pupils glimmered like violet gems. It was an odd combination of beautiful yet terrifying.

He blinked once, allowing her to witness his eyes turning back to their usual red. "I suggest screaming into a pillow and finding time to cry, it helps calm the bad thoughts." Wave said to her before putting his head back down on his desk again to snooze off.

"Thank you..." She sincerely said to him although he didn't respond to it.

"Oi Sirin, get your own food." Wave grumbled to the white haired girl as he held the bento away from her.

"But you don't even like the fish and my name is Kiana!" Kiana exclaimed as he had kept calling her Sirin for some reason.

"Doesn't mean I won't eat it."

"You two are... getting along a lot better than usual..." Mei noted oddly as it had been a couple of days since the construction incident.

"Yeah, well after spending a night together. We have learned to tolerate each other better." Wave rolled his eyes, taking a bite out of the fish despite the fact that he didn't really like eating fish much.

"You two still haven't told me what you did though." Mei pointed out as the two were awfully vague about what happened when they spent the night together.

"Mm nothing, right Sirin?" Wave nodded to the white haired girl

"Yep, nothing and my name is Kiana!" She immediately retorted, realizing that he got her name wrong again.

Obviously Wave wouldn't want anyone to know that he cried to sleep. While Kiana was actually sensible enough to realize that it was a sensitive subject.

"Why do you keep calling her Sirin?" Mei finally asked as Wave really had been calling Kiana by that name for the past few days. Although it was better than tuna girl, it still wasn't her name.

"Well friends call each other by their names." he explained as if it was common sense.

"But my name is Kiana! K-I-A-N-A!" She loudly accentuated each individual letter.

"Wait what did you just say?" Mei asked as if she had heard something strange.

"My name is Kiana?"

"No not you, him!" She pointed to Wave.

"Friends call each other by their names?"

"How are you two friends!?"

"Well for certain reasons, it would be wrong for me to not consider her a friend. Despite how much she sounds like an annoying little chipmunk." He stated

"I don't sound like a chipmunk!" Kiana started shaking him by the collar

Thinking about it for a second, Wave nodded. "My bad you sound more like a squirrel instead."

"I DO NOT!" The girl responded by shaking him even harder with incredible strength.

"B-But you don't even consider us friends!" Mei uncharacteristcally exclaimed as she was usually the calmer one in the group.

"Is this really important?" Wave raised a brow.

"Yes!" She immediately responded with seriousness. "We've been around each other for this long but every time we do something, you always stated that we weren't friends like a tsundere!"

"Oi, I'm not a tsundere." Wave stated blandly.

"How many times have you had to say out loud that we aren't friends?"

FLASHBACK AT A CINEMA

Mei and Wave were in a movie theater as the seats around them were empty due to the fact that people felt creeped out whenever they got near the gray haired teen's gloomy aura.

"This doesn't make us friends." Wave stated after the movie was over.

FLASHBACK AT A RANDOM CAFE

The two were sitting with each other, talking about idle things while eating and just enjoying each other's company.

"This doesn't make us friends." Wave stated again after they were finished.

FLASHBACK AT A CARNIVAL

The two were on a roller coaster descending downhill at incredible speeds

"TTTHHHIISSSSS DOESN'TT.... MAAAKE US FRIENDSSSSSS!" Wave yelled out as he held the purple haired girl's hand for dear life.

FLASHBACK AT SOME RANDOM PLACE

"Happy birthday, but don't think this makes us friends." Wave said holding up a birthday cake as he had a party hat on. He popped some streamers out with his other hand towards her.

Despite his words at the time, Mei still smiled warmly towards the gesture.

BACK AT THE ROOF

Wave blinked as he processed and thought back to all the times that she had mentioned. It was true, he wasn't exactly open to the idea of friendship due to his depression and hate towards everything back then. He was still pretty down at the moment, but he was learning to just live with it due to recent events.

"How is Kiana-chan friends with you already!? No offence Kiana-chan." Mei genuinely asked not understanding what the hell goes through Wave's mind before apologizing to Kiana.

"None taken Mei-senpai." The white hair girl said before turning to Wave who was still in thought "She has a point though, how do you not consider her a friend?"

"Hm..." Wave frowned for a moment as he looked down. "At the beginning our relationship at the beginning was purely give and take. You would hang around me due to the fact that people are afraid to approach me, giving you space to relax. While I would hang around you so I wouldn't have to steal food." He stated the state that their relationship was in.

"We've basically been business partners this whole time is what I considered." He honestly said as Mei looked a little hurt by his statement.

"Isn't that just friends with benefits?" Kiana asked as that's what it sounded like to her.

"Friends.... with benefits?" Wave blinked for a moment and realized that he couldn't refute that. He turned to look at Mei for a moment with an odd expression. "Yeah, I guess by now were friends with benefits." He acquiesed to it.

"Alright Mei, were friends with benefits. Happy?" Wave raised a brow.

"I.. I don't know how to feel about this." Mei facepalmed feeling exasperated at the unclimactic way the situation was resolved.

"Look if it makes you feel any better, we can celebrate our friendship." Wave stood up and stretched.

"Celebrate it?"

"Yeah, let's do something. Something meaningful."

"No fair, you can't just take up all the bonding moments with Mei-senpai!"

"You can join in too then." Wave rolled his eyes.

"Yay! More time with Mei-senpai!" Kiana pumped her fist in the air.

"Alright let's get going then."

"Eh? What are we going to do though?" Mei asked startled at the sudden decision.

"Isn't it obvious? Were going to deal with your bullying problem."

"Eh?"

"Did you not find it weird that other students kept harrassing you for this long? Mei, it's been many months now and teenagers generally change the subject of their gossip within a week or two." He gave her a bland look. "Seriously, the amount of people that she *He pointed at Kiana* has beaten up and I have traumatized in fear go into the double digits each month."

He held up his hand as Kiana high fived it, signifying that the two had indeed done just that. Oddly enough it was the one thing that genuinely agreed on before they considered each other friends.

"I guess it is odd now that you mention it... and you two have been doing what to other students!?" She said before realizing that the two seemed to have worked together to harm other students physically and mentally.

"Relax, they were assholes anyway." Wave rolled his eyes

"Yeah!" Kiana agreed with a nod.

"Anyway getting back on track it's obvious that there is someone targeting you. Whether it be paying students off or using other methods to keep this whole thing going." He deduced. Of course he had a feeling that Cocolia was behind it if he remembered the lore right. But he was pretty sure that the russian lady wasn't doing it directly, which means that she paid someone off to do the dirty work.

"But who would do this?" Mei asked out loud in thought as he did make a good point.

"Well who currently has the most power in this school?" he asked a simple question

The two girls looked at him with invisible question marks in the air. The gray haired teen looked at them with a slightly ticked off expression.

"Oh my gods, it's the Principal! Haven't you noticed that other teachers haven't been doing their jobs and turned a blind eye to this shit?" Wave threw up his hands, annoyed that they weren't able to figure out something so simple.

""Ohhhhhh!"" The two sounded out together much to his exasperation.

"But... where is the principal?" Kiana asked realizing that she had never been to the Principal's office.

"Come to think of it, I don't think anyone has ever seen him... or her?" Mei realized this as well. Oddly enough no one had ever seen the Principal before. It wasn't even known if they were male or female.

"Yeah, this school is weird. But don't worry I have a plan!" Wave crossed his arms and smirked.

"The Bronya is not sure about this." The short girl named Bronya stated as they were in a building filled with a large amount of vehicles for some reason.

"Shush, you still owe me 947 favors." Wave smiled evilly

"Wave, you aren't bullying her are you?"

"What!? No, I just beat her at an assortment of video games. Kuahahahahaha!" He laughed triumphantly, not hiding anything.

"The Bronya still believes that Wave cheated."

"It's not cheating if you don't know how I cheated." He wagged his finger with a smirk.

"But why are we here?" Kiana asked the question on everyone's minds.

"Well if were gonna find the Principal, this is the only person I know of at the moment that would be capable of finding them." He gestured to Bronya who still stared at him with a blank expression.

"But, then why would we need to be here?" Mei asked as there didn't seem to be a reason for them to be in a building with a bunch of expensive looking vehicles.

"Just wait a minute."

FIVE MINUTES LATER

*BOOM!*

Outside of the warehouse building, an explosion erupted out as a humvee flew out of the wall and sped down the road.

IN ANOTHER LOCATION.

"Umm Mam, there seems to have been an explosion at one of our reserve hangars." Cocolia turned to her subordinate with a raised brow and checked the cameras on a touchpad.

It showed Wave, Bronya, and two other girls in a Humvee breaking out of the warehouse.

"Aversis..." She facepalmed in exasperation.

"What are your orders?"

"Ignore it, we have more important things to deal with." She threw the touch screen back to the man.

She had a feeling that the Aversis would continue to annoy her for months to come.
