The Biggest Mistake

Feline ignored him for a bit, but when she stare at him, she's dumbfounded. She gasped, crying out, "Sean? What are you doing here?"

He's not the type who would go inside a chaotic club full of drunkard students. Or so Feline only thought in dreams. Sean shifted his gaze and gaped.

"Feline... you're here too." Sean and Feline both stunned in their places. The surrounding air stood silent after Sean adhered to those words. Feline spun the stool around, wondering why he was here. She observed his face.

His eyes looked so sad. Is there something that happened between him and Friya?

After that, Sean signed on the bartender to serve him one beer. The man behind the counter understood quickly. He walked on the other side, retrieved some cup from the drawers, as the stools beside Sean emptied.

All the women wearing their strapless tops and mini shorts went to the dance floor. They mingled with other men for a while. Feline was not that kind of woman. She's still wearing her uniform.

Tight jeans, her usual long-sleeved white polo, and her jet black hair. Smoothened out at her back, flawlessly cascading over her shoulders. In that silence, Feline didn't feel she was alone with Sean by his side.

"Do you know each other? You seem to command him easily than I do." Feline mumbled, pointing out his actions. Sean averted his eyes to her for a moment. He beamed slightly, but he didn't intend to grasp the conversation further.

Feline swallowed. She darted her eyes down, trying to initiate a conversation, but it always failed. He only fixed his eyes on Friya, and nobody wanted to break that. Feline wanted to admit the truth, but how could she?

The only man she ever liked was him, the man with those cute dimples.

...

Sean committed another mistake. He unbuckled the seatbelt from his car after a while as his cell phone rang for the nth time. The reminder of their dinner. He took the overtime work earlier. The director of their upcoming drama pressured on the deadlines.

With that, he forgot to call Friya. He must have been waiting at the restaurant for a long time. Sean gripped the steering wheel, retrieved the cell phone from the rack, and opened his car.

It was already 12 in the midnight. He still has to go to work at 8 am. He bit his lip, squeezed in a situation that he didn't know how to escape. Sean gripped the cell phone in his hand and walked through the welcome mat.

He assured that his car's locked. Someone might break the windows if they eyed its physique.

Sean brushed the soles of his shoes on the mat and opened the door. He's skeptical about his move. Sean hitched his breath, bit his lip, and opened it gradually. He swallowed, expecting Friya right at the footstep, glaring at him.

But it wasn't. A sigh of relief escaped in between his lips.

He walked in. The sensor light lit up, signaling someone was standing close to it. Sean glimpsed the red stilettos on the side. He knuckled his fists as soon as he saw it.

Sean hissed, peeked through the living room. He saw the lights were out, only the corner lampshade at the side of the television was lit. It gave a shade of dandelion glow in the room. Sean slipped out the shoes, stepped inside with his socks on, and rushed to sit down on the couch.

Friya's sleeping now, or so he thought.

He silently stuffed himself on the cushions, throwing his cell phone away at his side. Sean clasped the knot of his tie and removed it from his neck. He's exhausted. He wanted to lie back down on that couch for a while.

As soon as he did that, the bedroom door creaked and there came Friya. Emerging from the shadows as soon as possible. Sean's eyes opened after a while, and he jumped from the couch.

Friya showed up with a bare face, her hair tousled at the top of her head. She's wearing some sweatshirts and bunny pajamas. Sean stood up with that loose tie around his neck. Friya observed his physique and said nothing.

"I'm sorry," Sean spoke up first. Friya shook her head, shrugging her shoulders too. Sean furrowed his eyebrows at what she did.

"The dinner's reserved, so I still ate. After all, your excuse would be the same. You did an overtime, don't you?" Friya whispered. No evidence of rage in her tone. Sean clasped her fingers together and looked down.

He couldn't meet her eyes for a moment.

"It's the fifth time it happened. I'm alright. It's not like we have different jobs, anyway. I know the struggles you had to undergo as a screenwriter," Friya's sarcastic with that one. She crossed her arms over her chest. Sean balled his fists and closed his eyes.

Friya quivered his lip for a moment, turned back, and walked past ahead of him. Sean took that chance to grab her hand, but she removed it rashly.

Sean's gleaming eyes looked up at hers in that glow of the living room. Friya's eyes glowered. She took a step back and smirked, "I understood everything, yes."

Her eyes don't convey the same words. Sean clenched his jaw and puffed his cheeks.

"I'm sorry I lost track of time," Sean murmured. It was a petty fight he never wanted to get used to. Friya caught her breath. Her chest ached for a while.

"I know you're trying your best for this. This is your comeback drama, am I right? I understand that. I fully understand your dream. But is it wrong for me to ask for your time? As the love of your life?" Friya felt numb after saying those words. Sean shifted his gaze, glancing straight at her saddened eyes.

"You're my only rest, Sean. We are living on the same roof, but it doesn't feel like it, anyway," Friya conceded as a tear escaped her eye after. She spun around and locked herself inside the room.
