Chapter 5: Where are we?!

Devika’s POV

“Heh! She’s coming!" Cyrus said while grinning. When he finished saying that, the ground started shaking.

“Earthquake?!” we said as we are all in shock and panic.

Some of my other blockmates started shouting, crying and praying. I looked again at Cyrus and Mädchen. They seemed to be not bothered by what is happening. Both are just looking at the ceiling while smiling. We all started hiding under our desks and wait until the ground desists from shaking.

After a few a seconds, the surrounding suddenly falls in silence. I jumped out under my desk to see if it was already safe to go. I can’t believe what I just witnessed as the time suddenly stopped! Some of the papers and debris are all in mid-air. The same goes for my blockmates. All are not moving and stock the moment the earthquake’s still occurring. Most of them are standing while covering their heads, some are under their desks. Fear, confusion, and panic discerned in their faces.

Am I the only one who can move?!

“What the heck is happening?!” me, Saimon, and Rory said in sync. I immediately look at them. It appears like I’m not the only one who can move. What a relief.

We instantly scan the whole room to see if there are still people except us who can move; there is none. I tried to call Lea to see if she will react to it, but it’s no use.

“What is happening?! Why the time stops?!” I asked Mädchen and Cyrus.

Saimon and Rory looked at them too, expecting them to answer, but before they can answer us, a blinding light coming from nowhere suddenly appeared. It immediately dominates the whole classroom. I feel like being enchanted by the light.

“W-what the heck?! W-wait...” I said before the blinding light swallowed us whole.

I was awakened by a calm and beautiful voice. It was as if the angels sing right behind my ears. A voice that will make you feel at ease.

“My dear guardians... ” an adoring voice that came from an unknown lady said.

I opened my eyes to see who was the beholder of that tender voice. When I opened my eyes, I saw a silhouette of a lady, but no matter how hard I try to focus my sight on her, I can’t see her face. I scan the place where I am and saw Mädchen, Cyrus, Saimon, and Rory.

“We are here, in the Land of Daova… be careful, my children…” she calmly said before she disappeared completely.

“My dear fatherland, I will finally see you again!” Mädchen said cheerfully. The whole time I am with this girl, this is the first time I saw her cheerful, the first time I saw her genuinely smile and happy.

Slowly, the blinding light disappeared as suddenly a beautiful sight of great green plains appeared. It is full of different kinds and colors of wildflowers and wild grasses that have enough length. Trees can be seen not so far as the fresh wind breeze whispers in your skin. I am overwhelmed at what I am witnessing right now as if this place came out straight from a painting. Painted by the Holy Creator himself.

“Hoy, Chen! ” Cyrus shouted. I stopped fantasizing and looked at Cyrus. Saimon and Rory did the same.

“What?!“ she said, pissed.

“What are these two doing here? ” Mädchen looked at Saimon and Rory. “And also this female dog you’re talking about?” Cyrus said while pointing a finger at me.

Mädchen looked at me. Shocked was seen on her face.

“Huh?! ” she said, confused. She goes to where I am.

"Hoy, Female dog! You‘re also here?! ” she teasingly said to me.

“Ihhh... Devika! Devika is my name!" I quietly said, you never failed to piss me.

"Can you believe it? This female dog is one of the five guardians? This airhead?!" she offensively said to me while laughing. Female dog? Airhead? What hurtful names can she call me?! I am solely annoyed by this girl!

We started our journey to the Land of... What was it again? Da... da... ah never mind! We’re going there! That Land was Mädchen’s and Cyrus’ fatherland, the both of them grew up there.

We have walked miles and miles, but our destination still cannot be seen. Sunsets and the surrounding started to somber. Wild plants slowly starting to glow, illuminating our way. Some mushrooms are glowing too. Looking at these glowing plants, makes you feel like you were in a fantasy world. The world seems so mysterious, it feels like the world is full of magic.

While I was looking and mesmerizing at the place, I suddenly remember the dream I had last night.

"What was the meaning behind that dream? Why can’t I forget about this?" I quietly said to myself. It always crosses my mind like some sort of warning.

My stomach starts growling, so loud that it caught the attention of my four companions.

If the soil here in this world eats humans, can you please do it now? Eat me, please! So embarrassing! All four of them look at me and sigh in sync.

"Seems like my stomach is losing it. We have not eaten lunch yet, sorry hehe," I said as I feel my cheeks turn red in shame. They sigh in sync once again.

“Maybe let us all stay and rest here for the meantime," Saimon suggested while smiling.

“Yes, please! My legs hurt already~" Rory grouched.

“Yes, yes. There’s a nearby cave here." Mädchen said.

“Might as well spend our night in the cave. It’s too dangerous to continue our journey in the dark. We might get bumped with the wild animals. " Stoically said by Cyrus.

We then started to march our way to the cave. It is indeed near, just like what Mädchen said. It only took us some minutes to reach it. It is broad and enormous inside. Plants are glowing on the sides of the cave, just like the plants I saw earlier, also illuminating the insides of the cave, but not too many to light the whole cave. Rocks are formed as a bench to serve as squab to travelers just like us. We collected some twigs and woods to start a fire to give more light and warm us. After that, the four look for their own good spots and took their rest.

“Hoy!" Cyrus called me. I immediately answered him 'why?'.

“What are you waiting for? Sit down and eat already!" he irritatedly said to me.

“Ah, okay thanks" I replied to him while smiling.

I am too exhausted and hungry because of the non-stop walking earlier. And also too tired to think of what is happening and where I am right now. Hayst... never mind! I can finally eat! That... is what I thought... I just realized that I freaking left my bag in the classroom!!! How am I supposed to eat?! I am so hungry! Should I hunt?! Should I pick some wild but edible plants?! But how will I know if it was edible and not poisonous?! And what if I got eaten by the hungry wild animals on the way?! I don’t have any knowledge about this world! Thinking of where I can get food made me hungrier and exhausted! Arrrgghhh!

“What is the problem Devika? You seemed troubled. What’s wrong?" Saimon asked me calmly. He noticed me because of my reaction.

“Ahh... eh... You see... I l-left my bag in the classroom earlier... hehehe“ I said, ashamed.

“What?!" the other three said in sync. It was so loud that it echoes inside. I have to cover my ears because of that.

“What heck, Devika?" Rory said, sighing. Cyrus suddenly comes in my direction.

“Hey, airhead! Here!" he quietly said to me while handing me a piece of bread that he has been holding for a while.

“Eat this before I change my mind." He said while looking at his side.

“A-ah! No! You don’t have to!" I said quietly. He then looks at me straight and seriously.

“You will take this or I’ll throw it?!“ he irritatedly said. I hate wasting food, so I immediately grab it in his hands.

“Ah no, I’m just being mischievous, thank you so much!" I said. I immediately take a bite of the bread because I can not bear my hunger any longer.

“Hey, airhead! You have to pay for that!" he shouted. I almost choke after hearing what he said. What?! I don’t even ask him to give me the bread!!!
