We've Been Here Before

Ilona chewed at her nails as she watched her mother examine the Prince's head.  She'd had to call for a bowl of warm water and some towels to try to clean the wound well enough to see it.  He would still need to wash out his hair, but she could at least take a good look at his head now.

"Well, he's going to need stitches," Anja said matter-of-factly after some time, "I can finish cleaning the area up, but since your Father's doctor is here, Ilona, he might as well be the one to do the sewing.  His stitches are neater than mine anyway and will leave less of a scar."

"The boys were supposed to call for him already," Ilona frowned, "I don't know what's taking him so long."

Her mother smirked, "I'd imagine they had to wake him.  The men were up laying playing cards and enjoying their drink while your Father's away."
