If my heart were hooked up to a heart monitor, there would be a flat line stretching across the screen. I was frozen solid, my stare fixed at the woman with white markings.

I knew the best option was running away, but how could I run if my feet were cemented in place?

It felt like I was standing there for hours, drowning in moment. The woman didnt advance or make any movements whatsoever, and for some reason, that made it all the worse.

If youre going to try to get me, just do it. Youre making me more nervous by simply watching me.

My skin pricked at the thought of what she might try to do. I wasnt strong and I wasnt a fast runner, but Id be damned if she tried to put me back in that warehouse.

Arent you going to try to get me? The clarity of my voice rang out surprisingly strong. I had broken the silence between us, but not with wimpy words. I sounded like the leader I was trying to be.
