The Recovery

WHEN AMAS WAS TO LEAVE FOR HOME

The doctor after Amas left, asked Naavya to wait for a few moments as he wanted to talk about her son who had freshly woken up from a coma. As they walked , he looked at her and said, "He's finally up!! Come on put on a smile ma'am!". Naavya looked at him and smiled, knowing damn well that he didn't just mean to make her smile, she was waiting for something to be told. Something that wasn't gonna be really as pretty to listen to, so she moved her head sideways asking him to keep talking and he did as she expected him to.

"Look, even though Amas is out of the coma and is ready to walk that does not mean he is completely alright, there are side effects of such a trauma. Moreover he's still a 17 year old boy, so... one of the major side effects of being in coma is that if put under excess pressure his body as well as brains can break down completely, in simple words he will slip into coma again and this time I doubt if there will be any chance to save him or bring him back..." He told her but stopped mid-sentence.

She just nodded and replied, "Thank you sir but can you be a bit more elaborate? I feel from your tone that you are refraining from speaking everything clearly."

"Very well, see this right here is a very rare case of someone getting out of coma after a period of months and recovering so quickly. We fear that this recovery is built up on a fragile foundation and maybe just maybe, there is a possibility that he might show signs of some type of psychological condition because of the shock and trauma he received during the crash or any future incidents. If anything like that happens I am the first person you report it to and you have to bring him in every three days. Here's my contact info, incase the condition suddenly worsens." He replied loud and clear.

"Why would you go so far for our sake?" She asked him with one or two pairs of wrinkles appearing on her forehead as she brought her eyebrows close. It showed a kind of concern which told the doctor she suspected of him having some ulterior motives, so he just decided to play along and replied , "Because I want to marry you."

Naavya was so shocked that she immediately started to back off and then the doctor started to laugh saying, "I am a father of two, it's just that when someone tries their best I want to hold them up with all and everything I've got. Just a noble deed complex." "I thought you were a predator like many others." She said and joined his laughter. The doctor for one last time told her to keep the conversation a secret from Amas as that would put a considerable amount of pressure on his mind to which she nodded and as they approached the exit door where her son had been waiting for the past quarter of the hour, they grew silent. Finally ending the conversation with few formal greetings, Amas watched those two and brought his eyebrows together in an expression which could be almost called anger but it was less than that. As they both walked towards the car he asked her, "MOM? What's going on?" and she replied "He was just concerned about you hon' and he's a father of two unfortunately."

"Cut it out mom!" Amas said in a expression that could be termed as shock, and Naavya started to laugh again as her son said his greetings to the doctor and thanked him for taking care of him over the course of that period.

AFTER AMAS LEFT

The nurse that was in-charge of Amas's room while he was in coma walked right by the doctor's side and could not speak as she tried to so he spoke in her stead, "He's a strong child, I believe he'll be alright. The only thing that worries me is PTSD it may kick in slowly in him or maybe he can start hallucinating." "He's just a kid doctor PTSD is hell to deal with, he'll lose the rest of his life on it." She replied.

"I know sister but we can only do so much, we can only try our best and let god handle the rest.", He said while looking at her. "Well seems you're free for the rest of the day Doc! So care to tell me why are you so attached to the boy?" She asked him and he sighed looking at her putting the glasses up his nose and replied ,"Sure sister if you insist then shall tell you. Just get the canteen man to make me some snacks I'm hungry." "Alright, Imma get you something good to eat." She said on her way to the canteen, the doctor on the other hand wondered what possibly could go wrong with Amas in the period before he fully recovered so that he could work out a solution for the problem but his fear was greater than that. He was worried if what the young boy acquired was curable or not, the thought of him getting a psychological issue also seemed to be a forced thought. It wouldn't be weird if someone got away with no side effects, and by the strong personality the kid's mom had the doctor thought he deserved that miracle. Not because of his own self but more because his mom was such a strong woman.

The nurse came back with a whole wheat bread sandwich, with mayonnaise and a chicken patty also it had a slice of lettuce, tomato and cucumber. He took it from her and thanked her graciously, munching on it he started to speak to the lady, "That kid seems special to me somehow, I don't exactly know why but he kind of resembles my teenage self. Quirky, always trying to be funny and wanting to be liked by everyone but always getting into troubles, maybe he's even a better version of me. I would hate to see myself die like that to be very honest, to see a kid with so much potential kill all his potential would suck, real bad too. I want him to be someone who can live their own life while making many memories which I could not do, not that I have regrets or something but it's just that when I look at him I feel like he can live a life better than me for me. Also his mother has a great role to play in it, when she'd narrate her sleeping son all those stories and I would just listen in hopes of seeing a miracle I could see the despair in her eyes, the fear of losing her son after her husband and from the sound of it seemed like she had lost an old friend too. So I want her and her son to be happy for their lives and live a fulfilling life they can be proud of and hopefully in all this they'll remember me too." Wiping away the mayonnaise from the sides of his lips he then smiled at the nurse who spoke after a pause ,"I believe if the boy's father was still living, he'd have a outlook for him like you do Doc. You are a wonderful person, I almost wish I could marry you." To which he sarcastically replied, "Well an extra wife would do no harm to me you know? Let's get married.", and off he went again in his laughs and smiling at the nurse.

"DOCTOR!" a wardboy came running and after a moment of catching his breath he told the doctor ,"You've got to perform a surgery sir, a new patient has been brought in just now. She jumped off a bridge near the river."

Off he went at once running to the operation theatre where the patient was supposed to be and as the theatre was prepared for the patient to be operated on, the wardboy brought him the details of the patient. As soon as he looked at the record, he stopped for a moment shocked and then he walked into the theatre to operate her.

"Does he know her?" Asked one helper from another

"I've got no idea to be honest." The second one replied

Then they saw a teardrop fall down the right eye of the doctor just from above his mask as he took a short break and wiped his face with a alcohol swipe before resuming the operation.
