'There are two I can see to keep you safe.' Her father's attention swung to her. 'Tomas has offered to escort you to his estates and there you will be protected by his wife and his son, Angus, who you know runs the estate in his father's absence.'


'No offence, Tomas, but your home is in the Highlands, surrounded by forests and mountains on all sides. And Angus and I have never gotten on. We would drive Alyssa mad with our fighting.' 


Tomas laughed. 'But you would be safe, and Alyssa would enjoy some female company after raising four boys.'


'And the other option?' Aliah dismissed this one immediately and looked at her father to see if he could do better with his alternative.


'The other option would be to spend some time with my cousin in the Natari Capital. He is a minor noble as things go in the Empire, but he could introduce you to court and you could perhaps find a suitable match there.'
