After a day of travelling through the forest on foot, it was a relief to once again be on the back of a horse, well fed and on her way to the relative safety of Port Marden. Although Aliah was more than capable of looking after herself, she really had not enjoyed being hunted. Seamus, looking wan but awake, shared a horse with Emer. Dominic and Daniel were riding on either side of her as the city walls came into sight.


Camped out along the base of the walls were guards, each gathered around the banner of the lord who had brought them, another large group of fighters under no banner camped nearby. Aliah voiced her surprise at the number of citizens who had flocked to Port Marden to fight for the freedom of their country.
