Knocking on the door to Aliah's room, he waited for her command to enter, then let himself in. He had been surprised no one was guarding her door, but understood why when he saw Daniel seated opposite the princess drinking tea.


'Good, with both of you here I need only say this once.' Dominic sat on the edge of the bed and relayed everything he learnt that evening.


As he recounted his tale, Aliah stood and started pacing the room. 'I do not understand this at all. Robin was so helpful today. Baron Tappit only made the small concession he did because of Robin's intervention.  He has Hand's best interests at heart. I do not believe he is doing this for money.' She tugged at her plait.


'He was working for the good of Hand when he negotiated with the baron,' Dominic pointed out. 'I am thinking maybe it is not Hand he is betraying, but us - we Arians.'


Aliah stopped and gazed into the flames, pondering Dominic's comment.
