Chapter 140: An Unexpected Gathering

The estate on this side of the wall was similar to the untended countryside on the other side. Near the costal cliffs the grass was short and scrubby, changing to pasture moving more inland. There were small copses of trees dotted around, intermingled with groups of hardy shrubs. A quick scan of the area showed nothing was moving in between the trees, and Seamus was confident they were alone for the moment.

'Do you smell that?' Emer asked as Seamus joined them.

Sniffing the air, he caught a whiff of something, but could not make out what it was. 'Sort of.'

'A large fire has been lit close by, or a number of small ones. Somewhere over that way.' She pointed along the coast. 'Should we head over there, or sneak up to the house?'
