A Very Long Wait

Lekan's head bounced back just now, his eyes flashing as stars revolved about his head now.

"Thief!" The man yelled out now, his fist bleached out with the blood of Lekan now.

"Hey! That's enough! Enough of that. Even if he stole from you, you don't have that right!" a new voice sounded now.

"Huh?" The man who was beating Lekan gruffed out, looking behind him.

To his surprise, the man who behind him that had called him to order was none other than a policeman. A patrol police officer who just happened t be in the are, his bike parked close to the scene.

Compared tot he rough looking man with a box line of shaggy beards and a bald head, the policeman was looking much more neater. He had a scowl on his face which showed he did not approve of the event that was happening right now. His free hand fisted by his left hand side while the other hand went to the pouch where his handgun was strapped in.

"I need you to step away from him, right now." The policeman ordered, stepping off the kernel of the road as he watched the man suspiciously.

"H-he stole.. But!" The accuser tried to protest now.

"No buts!" The policeman shouted out at him. "You are among the reason why this country has refused to progress. Jungle justice and for what? he is underage! What happened to taking him to the police station where a statement would have being gotten and the best way to attend to this would be produced, heh?" The force man ranted on.

"I said, MOVE!'

CLICK!!

The sudden clicking of the safety lock of the gun reverberated in the air right now, forcing a sudden ejection of the man from on top of Lekan. The man hissed, stepping aside now, to the right of Lekan as he stared daggers at the policeman and both Lekan.

"This is not right!" The man tried to protest ow.

As he did that, the Policeman trained the gun on him, snarling out an unspoken challenge about what would happen if the man happened to bail out or act funny now. With his eyes sill on the man, the policeman slowly went forward, bringing his body down on one knee beside Lekan now.

Lekan groaned, relief surging through his body, especially now that someone had stopped him from getting all paste of flesh and bones. He struggled, using his arms to support his weight as he tried to rise up form the ground.

"Are you okay?" The policeman said to him, his eyes darting from the aggressor and Lekan all at the same time.

"I am fine!" Lekan said, wincing as he got up sit on his butt, trying to get his bearing. He had been thoroughly beaten and the fact that the beating was only ofr a short while did not take away the potency of each hit.

He exhaled now, raising his left hand to his face and then knuckling off the blood which was smeared on his left lip now.

"Thank you!" He said, looking to the policeman with a nod of appreciation.

"Right!" The mans aid to him, nodding his head in return as he also stood up now.

"I will just take this man with me to the station, for what is due to him. And.. you... you should give me your number. I dont know, I just feel like there is a lot going on, you dont wanna talk about. "The Policeman shrugged his shoulders now, using his two hands to train the gun at the other person. "So, you could always talk to me, whenever you feel like you have something bothering you. Or if you are in trouble, you know. The fate of the World!"

"What?" Lekan frowned now.

"Oh, sorry, never mind. I am Officer Charles. My number is 09833..." The policeman said, calling out his number while Lekan dipped his hand to his pocket, retrieved the phone and began to type it out.

"Alright, thanks!" Lekan replied and the began to walk to the gat of the school. The rest of the matter about the one who had beat him was now beyond him. Plus, he did not want to even get involved with any of that. He was just so glad that he was free of the raging maniac who had mistaken him as someone else.

Stepping into the school gate now, lekan heaved a sigh of relief as he walked past the guard room. He had been here before and so, he knew that if he acted like he did not know where he was going, or uncertain of what to do, the school security would call to him and detain him for a few questions before they would let him go. Only if, they had been impressed by his answers and demeanor that he was not a theat. If otherwise, he would be booted out.

And unwilling to get that sort of reception, he moved tot he left hand side of the gate where the reception was. Usually meant for parents and wards who were expecting their children back, mostly because it was exam time and they could not be found close to any class. Or even the teacher's room. The school had a severe policy like that as they did not want a scenario where the student parents would impress on the teachers a way to make things easier for their wards even while he exam was going on.

Lekan sat down now, under the blue translucent roof and then leaned back against the stainless steel waiting chairs. they were three of the, each of them having the capability to seat up to 12 people on one seat. In total, that was about 24 people in all the seats and about now, there were just about 7 of them o the seats now.

Lekan sighed now, not willing to look towards the way of the others who sat beside him and behind him. In front of him was as a statue of a student, wearing the uniform of the school, a seemingly portrayal of model student which they had engraved there, in a lawn. And about the laws was a hedge of stones which had been placed there to prevent the students from walking straight across it.

After that, there was a space in which the luxurious school bus was occupying and then, a block of three storied classroom. The classroom block was in line with the shape of L, one side being the one after the bus and the other side, adjacent to the statue, shorted in length too.

It was in that side where the assembly and events of the schools were held. And as things were looking now, he knew just then that the hall was being used by the students right now, based on how they trooped out of it, with solemn gazes. However, the top floors was what Lekan did not have any idea about.

He reached his hands into his pocket now and then rested his head against the steel of the seat behind him. Regret flashed through his mind, he should have put a call across to her before coming. That would have gotten him a precise location of where she would be, just after her exams and not the one where he was just there and could not even place a call to her, because she would be writing her exams still.

Lekan sighed. It was going to be a long wait for him.
