Desire to Protect

Lekan growled, baring out his teeth now.

His heart went hickey hop at the sound of the weeping and the terrified Blessing who was still under him. He frowned deeper now, taking into account the people who were all about him.

For one, he knew that this was not an intended incident. It had just happened, at least from the conversation with the police which the gunmen had, that they had just happened to come along and had decided to use the school as hostage in securing a getaway ticket.

Still, he was livid. Why Would anyone want to use a school like this? What had they done? Why would they want to think that a school as this would make fo a good hostage point. Lekan could feel a guttural growl rising in his throat now.

Strangely, the growl in his throat felt like it had always been a part of him. It gave him confused emotions since he could not remember how he had felt like this for this to be somewhat familiar with him. Still, he dismissed the thought, he couldn't let himself be distracted by that. Not when there was a situation on the ground. A situation in which he would have to step up to and do something about.

A part of him want ted to scream out that he was just a student. But yet, he felt like jumping in. He took in the position of the gunmen. They were on the top of the truck but how they had gotten there, he did it have an idea.

The main thing now was that there were there and there was the surging of a strange sense of energy inside of him and a weird confidence that he could take them all out. With his eyebrows still furrowed, he listened to the cries which were all about him. Blessing for one, was whimpering and shivering and the sound of that broke him. Of all people, he did not want to hear that Blessing would have to go through what she is going through now.

She was his close friend, the one who had always been coming around even despite the fact that he had been cold to her for most of the time, yet she was here, with him. And on top of that, she had been the one who had stretched out an invitation to him for him to step out of the house, to step out of the house which was choking him considerably , offering him a place where he could take refuge for the meantime.

Lekan snarled. If there was anything that would hurt or her break then he would not have a part of it.

Who would dare to hurt an angel like her? Whoever did that would have to pay. He would make sure of that, he would make sure the blood of such a person as psweed on the granite floor and the corpse was left on the ground for the vultures to devour. He would make sure that there was no happy place for such a being.

He was Lekan, he swore and by everything which was in the heavens and under the earth, he would make sure of that. With this resolve in his heart and a growling face, Lekan rose from the shielding of Blessing. He wanted to jump in but then he felt a tug at the vest.

It was Blessing and she was looking at him with pleading eyes.

"Please, don't go anywhere, we don't know what would happen if we go and they start shooting. Let's just stay still. I'm sure that something would happen that would come to save us." She said to him, looking up at Lekan with tears in her eyes.

She looked Cute to lekan Which was why he did not want to sit here and wait till the gunmen had decided to use their guns. They would do something. But first of all, if he was going to do anything,he would at least make sure that the people around were taken out of the path of danger. Or at least, Blessing was removed.

"I know." He said to her with a very soft voice. "I know but I have to do something."

"What do you want to do?Z You're not a hero. This is not a folktale, Leka, stay put!" Blessing tried to sound firm and annoyed, as if she was scolding him with the tears in her eyes, it looked cute, derailing the very essence of the whole thing to Lekan.

"Don't worry." Lekan said to her, assuring her and then rising some inches further. "I would not be saying this if I didn't have the confidence to do something like that."

"What?" blessing stammered at him.

Lekan did not listen to her now. He stretched out from being a shield for her. And because of the fact that Blessing was bending over and crouched and the fact that she was naturally smaller than it, it made it easier for him to stretch his whole body over her, as if he was some kind of wild beast getting ready to prowl.

Which indeed he was.

For at that same moment, a surge of adrenaline exploded into veins of Lekan setting his whole body ablaze now as his pupils expanded and contracted all in a second. The form of that demon figure danced just right above Lekan for a brief secdn, just like it had been before the gunmen had come into the scene. But this time, the demon figure was not looking at him. It was looking at the gun men, disgust visibly shown in its face.

Lekan muscles contracted now, his legs firing out In a sudden accelerated boost of energy. He sprung forward, firstly leaping over the frame of Blessing so as not to bump into her. Once he was in the clear for that, his whole body dashed forward, his legs and hands clawing at the ground like as if he was a wild animal on a pounce.

He dashed on, keeping a low profile but then he was noticed by the gunman who had not been training his automatic gun on them since.

"Hey, bastard!" The man shouted out, throwing out a fist into the air. "You want to die, abi?" The gunman yelled out and then trained his automatic gun at Lekan.

Seeing that he was being targeted, Lekan's eyes widened now. But oly for a second because just then, the rolling cannon of the machine gun began to fire out, several rounds of bullet rocketed out towards the body of lekan.

TATA TATATATATATATATATA

The bullets rang out and lekan fired out. His heart went into his mouth as he discovered the stupidity of the whole thing. But then, it was only for a moment because the moment he began to panic, an ethereal sense of being protected by something which he didn't know came up on him. Perhaps, it was the covering of his own late parents but then he was not one to believe it.

However, that did not matter. Now that he had been discovered, he straightened up and began to run. At the same time he felt his control slipping out of his body, stumbling down as he went to the left of the gunman, the bullets shattering into the pillar of the L shape building, towards the assembly hall.

He dashed out forward, on a control which was not his, his eyes flashing out a blood red light for a second or two.

The bullets rang past him but none of them reached him because as they came, his body would switch directions almost immediately.

His lower body bent now and then slid forward, each movement making it easier to get to the spot where the gunmen were. Still, despite that going to the truck was longer than where he was yet he was taking because he felt a strong sense of compulsion to make sure that at least, none of them would get into harm's way.

His legs clawed at the ground and then in a single bound, Lekan found himself leaping into the air, his body spiraling around even as the second gunman bgan to adjust his own gun to fix at Lekan. But it was all too late.

Lekan slammed into his shoulder, unsettling him and making him lose his balance. Before the other one could move the heavy barrel of the machine gun towards him, he was already too close to him.

"You should think twice about things like this!" Lekan growled out to the ear of the gunman.

In a flash, his right hand flashed out in an arc into the jaw of the gunman. The guman protested, groaning out pain as he let go of the gun and tried to use his left hand to counter. But Lekan was not done.

He bent suddenly, a sound of gunshot exploded out from behind him.

"No…. Shegzy.. I didn't know!" The voice of the second gunman screamed as the first gunman who had been shooting at Lekan slumped, a gunshot to his head.

Lekan rose, kicking the guns off the top of the truck, into the vicinity of the School. After that, he leapt off the truck and went back into the school. Still surging on adrenaline, he picked the dumbfounded Blessing in Princess carry, dashing towards the school block of classrooms.

His legs tore mercilessly against the granite floors while behind them, police men rushed forward, training their guns on the still weeping gunman.

And then, Lekan slumped.
