Practical Exams

The next day, the Doctor's Exam started at exactly 8:00 a.m. on the Computer Laboratory, the same as yesterday's exam schedule. The exam lasts for an hour, the same as Beginner's Class Exam, though it's really quite more tough to answer questions from the Doctor's Class Exam.

The exam contained of 75 questions, with each question equivalent to a point, with a total of 75 points. The questions consisted of General Pokemon Biology, Organ Systems of a Human Body, Treatment methods to Status Conditions of a Pokemon, and Medical Terminologies.

Like yesterday, Paul was the first to finish, though he answered a bit more carefully this time. He was able to finish 15 minutes before the time limit and went outside the classroom to prepare for the practical part of the exam. His friends finished at the exact time of the exam, maximizing the time allotted for the test.

Unlike the Beginner's Class Exam, the Doctor's Class Exam had a practical portion for its exam. Ms. Joy, after the students were done with the theoretical exam, brought them to the infirmary. She instructed them that they would need to diagnose a pokemon each, of their status condition, and make a timely treatment. This does not only involve theoretical aspect of the class, but also how to handle pokemon patients.

They did the practical exam alphabetically, with Jake as the first examinee. The exam was conducted over the curtains; thus, the students didn't know what would happen inside until it was their own turn. Paul was next, as he went to the curtain with Jake passing by his side and mouthing 'good luck' to him.

'Well, that was curious.' Paul thought.

As he opened the curtains, Ms. Joy was on the bedside, with a weakly looking Persian at the bed. He immediately checked its condition, thus was able to notice the color purple glowing on its skin. It was under the poisoned status condition. He directly tried to comfort Persian by rubbing the spot under its chin, while saying comforting words such as 'It's okay, you'll be fine soon.' over and over. As he was doing this, Paul spotted different types of berries and medicine on the bedside, while viewing Persian's information.

Seeing he's correct, Paul immediately worked on making a remedy. Knowing that an Antidote is usually administered only at times when it's an emergency, berries are usually okay as a remedy as they're not harsh on letting the poison out and is gentle. Antidote makes the poison be puked out by the Pokemon, thus its not recommended when not an emergency. It would only put a Pokemon to unnecessary pain and discomfort.

Thus, he immediately took two Pecha Berries, noticing that Persian's poisoning is not mild, but not heavy either. He diced them with a chopping board and a knife, which he wiped first before using, in order to not mix up the juices that was used by Jake, the examinee before him. He diced them into cubes, before mashing them into a paste until it was a nice smooth texture and fed it to Persian. Usually, making them eat a berry is fine, but making it into a paste does make it work faster.

Luckily, Persian was quite cooperating with him because of his earlier comforts, thus ate the Pecha Berry paste without any complaint. After a few minutes, the poison status finally went away, with the purple glow under Persian's skin fading out. Persian fell asleep after he was fed with the Pecha Berry paste that Paul made. Ms. Joy smiled at him as she wrote on her clipboard before saying that he did well, and to call the next examinee in. He did so, but not before rechecking Persian's status.

Paul gave a sigh of relief when he saw Persian's status condition dispersed. He lifted the curtains and settling them back to enclose the practical exam site as he went out. Paul called out to the next student, which he discovered was Ferdinand, the 21st ranker, as he was next. Actually, students done with their practical exam could already go home. But Paul, who sat next to Jake outside the infirmary, and Jake himself, were waiting for their two friends Steven and Amber, who is quite at the end of the line for the practical. Their surname being near the end of the alphabet at their class.

After waiting for around an hour and a half, with Paul reading and Jake sleeping to pass time, Paul noticed a pink head walking out the infirmary door. Amber finally went out of the infirmary with a smile, they waited for a couple minutes with Amber toning down her excitement as she joined Paul to read while waiting for the blue head. Steven went out and gave them a nod, which Paul immediately gave Jake a jerk to awake. The blonde head, seeing that Steven and Amber is now out, didn't complain when he was woken up, stretched, and yawned as he stood up.

They conversed as on the ride to Paul's house, talking about the just finished exam.

"I did well. Though, I answered more carefully while also rechecking my answers longer this time, compared to yesterday." Paul started.

"Me too. But I think I'll get a high score this time." Steven shared.

"Well, It seems we all did well, as I did too." The pink head replied, while looking at the final person to speak out.

"How did you do Jake?" Amber asked, seeing the blonde's quite happy look, who also didn't notice her gaze.

"Oh, I think I did well. Both on the theoretical and practical part of the exam." Jake replied, as he smiled a bit smugly.

Paul just laughed, seeing the complacent smile of the blonde. "Hey, we know you're smart. You're just too lazy. Luckily, we were able to make you review, or rather your parents did."

"Hey! Don't bring that up. I still get mad when I remember they forced me to cook my own breakfast!" Jake immediately fumed.

Steven scoffed, hearing his friend's remarks. "Just because you're too useless of a person in your household."

"You know, the more I get to know you, the ruder you get." Jake said, while glaring at the blue head who's looking away.

This made Paul laugh more. "Well, it's not a bad thing to be honest." The red head defended his friend, though he was chuckling as he totally agrees with Steven's statement.

"I knew it! This iron head would corrupt you!" Amber gasped, obviously exaggerating.

"Hey, why do I sound like a villain." Steven immediately countered.

"Because you always are! You steel brained fool!" The pink head righteously retorted, quite proud that she finally was able to take advantage of the blue head.

"Don't you know that even a steel type, such as Metagross, is capable of performing complex calculations and is even smarter than a supercomputer!" Steven immediately defended the steel type pokemons.

Amber glowered at Steven, her irritation pricking her senses. "You dimwit! I meant you as a person, not steel type pokemons! Of course, they are smarter than you, even a Slowpoke is!"

"Hey, Amber, watch your language. You've cursed out twice already. I think Ms. Rose would like to have a long and deep conversation with you." Paul reminded, dispersing the tension that the two fighting buffoons usually have when they bicker.

"Oops!" The pink headed said as she closed her mouth. "Sorry, Paul! I won't do it, consciously." She carefully replied. "This iron head is just so irritating, he's always on my nerves!" Amber finished as she glared at Steven, again.

The blue head, ignoring the pink head's irritated gaze, went back to his own business and continued to read the book about different caves.

"You know, sometimes I wonder how you two tolerated each other for two years." Paul sighed; helplessness could be heard from his voice.

"Well, it helped that it was only few times a month, and that I don't particularly talk to him that much when not necessary." Amber replied thoughtfully.

"Hmph, I just tolerated that pink witch. She's loud and annoying when she does talk." Steven finally couldn't help but retort. Thus, another fight ensued.

Paul looked out the window and wished they were already at his house for the fight to end. 'How long is this ride going to be?' He thought, as Paul was also wondering how Jake was able to sleep through the noise, 'Well, that's a mystery'. Paul, being tired of the noise, tried to mediate the two fighting fools, again.
