"Uh excuse me, could you tell me where the Stark Tower is?" I asked a citizen who was removing debris off his car, the man turned to me with a tired face, "The Stark tower, it's in the center just follow...." he started to speak but froze when he looked at my face correctly and gave a smile before starting to stutter.
"Eh I'm sorry but you're the Lord of Light?" He said as he took his cell phone out of his pocket trying to confirm something, "Wait, Lord of what?" I said making a face of doubt and he showed me the cell phone playing a video where I was fighting the invaders.
"That's what they're calling you now man you're a Hero can I get an autograph?" The man spoke and started looking for a pen in his clothes but I stopped him, "Man with all due respect, I don't have a signature at the moment so I better take a picture and point out where the Stark tower is." I said not wanting to waste too much time here.
" Oh yes of course." The man spoke in a somewhat disappointed tone but didn't hesitate to take a picture of us together before pointing out where the center of town is, after thanking him I continued to walk through the ruined city where several people helped each other to remove rubble and rescue of the wounded.
"That must have been a lot more intense on the first day." I muttered and continued walking through the streets but as I walked past an empty street I saw something that caught my attention, a little black girl full of dirt came out of a house with a broken roof and ran towards me while waving and having a desperate face, "Lord please help me." She screamed as she approached me and grabbed my hand before pulling me away.
"Eh, can you explain to me what happened?" I questioned her as I let myself be dragged and saw her with small wounds on her hands, "My brother and I were trying to pick up a toy of mine that I left at home when the roof fell and buried it, please help him!" She was practically crying by that time and I could feel her despair when I asked for help.
I wanted to make an excuse and send her to call the fire department or someone to help her better but my heart is too soft for the reality of this world, "Alright, calm down and point me exactly where he is." I put my hand on her shoulder and tried to calm her down before we both walked into the house.
The place was destroyed, full of dust and stones on the floor and some walls had collapsed causing the roof to fall, "He's there, help him please!" The girl ran towards a pile of rubble and tried to lift a pillar that had fallen onto the pile with all her strength but this only made her hands more hurt.
"Get out of the way." I pulled it back and taking a look at the position of the pillar I thought a bit before putting mine around it and pulling it, the pillar was heavy but it was in a position where it was easy to pull it out and with a little effort I went. able to pull it back.
Crack! Crack! Crack!
The pillar started to crack as I pulled it back showing it was going to snap in half and causing me to let go, "What to do what to do." I thought as I tried to find a way to pull the pillar without breaking it and saw the girl looking at me hopefully.
At that moment I was reminded of a recent fact that I shouldn't have forgotten, "Oh yeah, I have powers." I exclaimed and formed a rope of light before tying it around the pillar and pulling with all my strength.
There was a small noise of a falling waterfall as I pulled the pillar and the girl behind me didn't even wait for the dust to settle before she started pulling at the rocks, desperately looking for her brother.
I of course didn't stop her and started to help also remove the gravel, moments later I found a child's arm revealing itself under the rocks and I felt a bitter taste in my mouth before continuing to pull the rocks this time with a little of despair.
Gradually the girl and I started to reveal the boy's body, "Brother, brother!" The girl squealed when we revealed her head and she put her hand on her face as she shook it, seeing that there was only one huge stone left in his chest I immediately grabbed it and pulled it back.
The boy's entire body was revealed and I saw the shirt on his chest covered in blood, "BROTHER!" The little girl screamed with more despair and I immediately crouched down as she touched her neck trying to feel her pulse.
"Shit, shit, shit." I started talking seeing that there was no reaction and the little girl started to cry louder, not having much choice I did the only thing that maybe could save the boy.
"We have to get to an ambulance fast!" I told the little girl and without worrying about politeness I took her brother in my arms and carried him out of the house running towards the last ambulance I saw that was two streets away.
When I rounded the corner and spotted a rescue team I immediately called out to them, "HELP! HERE!" I yelled and the men turned to me before their eyes flicked to the dusty little girl who followed me crying and the bloodied boy in my arms.
"One wounded!" One of the men yelled and several of them ran towards me before scooping the boy up in my arms masterfully and placing him on the ground, "Can you do anything to help him?" I said and saw him putting his hands on the boy's neck before trying to feel his breath and saw a disappointed look on his face.
"I'm sorry, but he's already gone." The firefighter said and bowed his head regretfully, "No! No! Brother!" The little girl behind me screamed and tried to walk past me to go to her brother but I held her in my arms and she started struggling to get close to her dead brother.
I could feel her sadness and her anguish as she tried to break free and go to her brother, but I knew that if what she really said about him dying because of her, letting her hug her cold body could have serious consequences later on.
"She's hurt too, can you help her?" I asked the firefighters who were all with their heads down with the same bitterness of helplessness I was feeling, but their training kicked in and one of them stepped forward to help the little girl, "Hey, hey look at me." He started to try to get her attention but she ignored him and kept trying to struggle to get out of my arms.
He turned to another firefighter and nodded and soon they brought out a black bag and put the little girl's brother into the bag, "BROTHER!" She screamed louder this time but I didn't let go and held on tight, "Why are they carrying him in the same bag they took Mom and Dad! WHY!" I could feel her screams of pain and she finally lost her strength and fell to her knees as she cried.
"I'm counting on you." I looked at the firefighter and said and he nodded and put his hands on her shoulder trying to get her to pay attention to him, I knew they were specialized in treating accident victims so I let her go slowly and left her for the fireman before I walked away.
"Argh, what a mess." I mumbled and sat down on the pavement as I placed my hands now full of dust and blood from the boy in front of me and just stood there looking at them, for the first time in my life I started to feel a desperation coming through me.
"I was helpless." I muttered under my breath and continued to stare at my hands for a moment before my eyes flicked to a man who rounded the corner running with a head wound, "Help! My wife is trapped here!" He yelled desperately as he ran and I saw some firefighters heading towards him.
I tasted the bitterness again and looked down at my bloody hands, "I don't like this feeling." I said and got up and ran towards the man to help him too.
