47. Day 2

August woke up. He was met by an unfamiliar ceiling and a sharp weakness.

" I forgot I was living with Polly. It's day 2, another day and the end. Just that thought makes me feel like this nightmare is about to end. "

Augustus got up slowly and got into the carriage. He left the room and went to the bathroom. This house scared him a little. The gray walls pressed down on him, and it felt like the house was watching his every move.

" It seems to me. I can't be intimidated by a house. "

When August almost reached the bathroom, the door to it opened by itself, and with such a frightening creak that his skin was covered with goosebumps and his ears rang.

" I was wrong. This is scary. "

He quickly brushed his teeth, went to the bathroom, took a bath, and started down to the kitchen. The kitchen smelled pleasantly of fried eggs and bacon. August, or rather his stomach, could not resist and he went straight there.

Polly was standing at the stove, making breakfast.

--- You're awake, sit down at the table.

Without even turning around, Polly spotted August...although it is difficult not to notice the creaking of the stroller.

August rode up to the table, and Polly immediately placed a delicious plate of fried eggs and bacon in front of him.

--- The hospital staff will be here soon, so be ready for a check-up.

She sat down across from him and breakfast began. There was silence at the table, only the sound of a fork hitting a plate, and neither of them wanted to start a conversation. Breakfast passed in complete silence.

--- Let me clean it up - Polly quickly washed the dishes, and the house was perfectly quiet. The house seemed to freeze in time, but this state was quickly destroyed by the doorbell.

--- I'll open it - Polly wandered too eagerly to the door. After a while, she returned with two nurses.

--- Here's your patient.

--- Excellent. Let's put you on the couch and take a look at you.

The nurses quickly moved August to the couch and began to examine him. First they examined his body, his larynx, nostrils, eyes, took his blood pressure, did a couple of exercises, and that was it.

--- The healing is going great. The body slowly recovers itself.

--- He doesn't need any pills or herbs ?

--- I advise you to spend more time in the fresh air, and everything is fine.

--- Well, thank you. - the nurses quickly gathered their things and left the house. As soon as the door was closed, Polly picked up the phone and went to the kitchen where she could hear her voice. After 5 minutes of conversation, she came out to August.

--- We're going on a picnic.

--- Don't you have to, I don't know, work ?

--- I've taken a couple of days off, so I'm completely free. Now I'll pack a basket and go to the park.

Polly quickly changed her clothes, packed up everything she needed for the picnic, and drove to the park with August. Since it was only morning, everyone was at work and almost no one was in the park.

--- Great, the fewer people there are, the more oxygen there is. We'll get a lot more free space.

--- ....

--- Oh, I can see a beautiful clearing from here, I think we'll stop there.

Polly gave the basket to Augustus and rolled it herself, as it was a clearing on a small hill. Soon, Polly quickly unpacked everything, packed the tablecloth, food, and everything was ready.

--- Excellent. I've been wanting to go on a picnic for a long time.

---....

--- I think we'll start with something easy. - ignoring August's silence. Polly kept talking.

--- We should have tried something like this a long time ago.

---....

--- Go on vacation with the whole family, it's a pity that we didn't do it.

--- Because you were always drunk

--- I don't drink anymore.

--- Of course, only alcohol does not let go so easily.

--- I let him go, not he let me go.

--- Yes, yes.

--- Let's eat, it will help you heal quickly.

--- And I can see you're really looking forward to getting rid of me.

--- This is not true. - Polly walked over to August and took him by the shoulders.

--- I just want you to be healthy, I'm worried about you.

--- .....

--- Listen - she sat down across from him and stared into his eyes

--- I want to fix it, start over.

--- It's too late, it's impossible.

--- Don't say no and everything will come true.

--- You lost me a long time ago, and I won't be put in a cage again.

--- I'll get you back. I want to fix everything.

--- Why ?

--- ???

--- Why now ? You had so many chances, so much time, but you chose now, when I forgot the past and started a new life.

--- I was blind, I didn't appreciate what I had. Only recently did I see the light.

--- You should have continued to be blind.

--- I was able to see and saw all my sins. So much pain has been inflicted, so much suffering, so much evil. I decided to fix it.

--- So what ?

--- I wanted to find you, hold you, and hold you close. I've done you so much harm. I've been meaning to tell you for a long time. - she gathered her strength and spoke.

--- Sorry. I want to apologize to you.

--- ....

--- I know I don't deserve to be forgiven, I know. I just want to make it up to you, that's all.

--- Usually thank you, will not fix something that has been destroyed a thousand times.

--- Then I will ask for forgiveness a thousand times, no, a million times. As long as what was broken is not repaired.

--- This is naive.

--- I know, but I will go down this path.

The conversation died away on its own. Then they just ate. After that, we returned home, and no one said a word on the way. Entering the room, August lay down on the bed and began to fall asleep.

" You're not going to make it. I lied. What you broke is gone. You hit too hard. "
